Lightening/Thunder! ~ Sheriff's Chopper ~ Daiquiri Day

Good 58º rainy morning. My mountain is not visible this morning. Will have to settle for this one.

Rain started in heavy about 10pm and gradually increased. By 10:30 we were having lightening and thunder. Scares Maggie and Harley so I had a shaking panting dog in my face and cat walking through the house, wailing! Groan..... I think we finally got back to sleep about 1:am.

Looks like we got 60/100ths of an inch in the night. Still drizzly.

Today is the 200th day of the year. Gads..... it was just the 100th!

Here is some good advice I got from Cyndi...

Don't Drink and Drive You might hit a bump and spill something.

Exciting day yesterday ... did laundry, stripped the bed, all clean now. Put a chicken in the crockpot

Only 89¢ per pound, so a 5½# chicken was only $4.89. That feeds Maggie a week along with turkey hot dogs! Cheaper than canned food, which she won't eat anyway! Does make the house smell good while it cooks.

Got a new deer block so that's out and the deer found it right away....

Saw a bunch of baby turkey chicks with 3 hens. Didn't have camera close. Then all this noise was outside... ran out to see a Sheriff's chopper circling overhead. The guy on the left (observer? co-pilot? pilot?) turned and looked down at me. Then scooted over the mountain top towards Medford.

Last evening about 8pm the clouds were gathering...

Always love the poem, "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41."

I subscribe to a blog called Hungry Girl and she has lots of product information and recipes. Yesterday she talked about a new Kraft item that is Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Veggie Pasta. It's made with CAULIFLOWER! The freeze dried florets are reduced to powder and used in place of some of the flour in the pasta. You can find the blue box at Walmart and Target.

Also, reportedly Olive Garden has removed the French fries and milkshakes from their kid's menu and replaced them with grapes and smoothies. Good idea! A step in the right direction.

Here's a great one from my friend Charlie.... she worked with Jerry at the department....

Eve Chats With God
"Lord, I have a problem."
"What is the problem, Eve?"
I know that you created me and provided this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals, as well as that hilarious comedic snake, but I'm just not happy."
"And why is that, Eve?"
"Lord, I'm lonely and sick to death of apples."
"Well, Eve, in that case I have a solution. I shall create a man for you."
"Man? What is that Lord?"
"A flawed creature with many bad traits. He'll lie, cheat, and be vain; all in all he'll give you a hard time, but he'll be bigger and faster and will like to hunt and kill things. I will create him in such a way he'll satisfy your physical needs. He will be witless and will revel in childish things like fighting and kicking a ball about. He won't be as smart as you, so he will need your advice to think properly."
"Sounds great", said Eve, with ironically raised eyebrows, "but what's the catch Lord?"
"Well, you can have him under one condition."
"And what is that Lord?"
"As I said, he'll be proud and arrogant and self-admiring .... so you'll have to let him believe I made him first.
And it will have to be our little secret ....
You know, woman to woman."

Well, golly*, we warmed to 72º yesterday! Stayed overcast all day. Rain stopped and then in the evening started again.

( *http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=golly  ... the explanation of the word will make you laugh!)

I hard boiled some eggs

Cooked, al denté, some broccoli,

and infused olive oil with garlic/onion/red pepper flakes
(Yes, I don't use fresh garlic or onion... dehydrated and reconstituted, drained.... Oil to 180 degrees and add garlic/onion/flakes ... take off heat and cool to room temp.)

Soooo good!

For dinner I had Fettuccini Alfredo on top of the broccoli (had to fight Harley for it!)

... and I ate the last piece of lemon/poppy seed cake...

Ok, nuff said. Sorry about the joke fellas!! LOL. Ciao.

Origami Radish ~ Crazy LBB ~ Caviar Cream Cheese Dip

Good 57º, very cloudy, morning.

Just to make a point, if you are going to be gone and don't need the aggravation of a ton of emails, just let me know and I'll take you off my daily drivel list until you want back on.

Interesting day yesterday. Rain on and off all day long. July? Are you kidding me? I took this picture about a quarter to five in the afternoon. I had a sweatshirt on. July? Sweatshirt? Sigh...  Different, honey.

I had promised Claire I'd get some petitions signed and back to her yesterday. They are for a couple of members of the Rogue River school board they want recalled and on the ballot in November. So, did that. In the process went to Patty and Cliff's to install their AOL on their laptop they use at the coast. Success. Had stopped at PJ and Dave's earlier. Got signatures there and from PatC who had stopped by. Then Maggie got nutty and took off for the area down by the road. I was worried and went after her. Well, as it turned out there was a dead "something" down there and it got on her radar. Dave said it's a possum .... You decide....

Ok Ok Ok.... I put this on here for a reason. I rarely (just from a very few pals) get 'comments' on my blog. I know it's read, but I do put a little effort into it and would like to hear what more of my readers think. So, Mr. Possum or whatever he is, ought to generate comments! I did get my a** chewed for my lemon/poppy seed cake because I used Canola oil. I also got told how "wonderful and loved" Barbara Stanwyck was, even though I couldn't stand watching her movies! So you see, it's generally something that touches people, pisses them off, or they feel a need to educate me that gets the comments. Knock yourselves out with this one kids!!! LOL

I came home and the 'guys' were hanging out in the back....

Claire and her daughter Lizzie came to pick up the petitions. Lizzie had made me an origami radish....

Now, how cool is that! Thank you Lizzie!

Poured a wine, chatted on the phone with a couple of friends, and watched the hummers on the porch....

There is this LBB (little brown birdie) that has taken up residence on the perch on the blue birds house. The blue birds have babies in there but this guy thinks the babies are his. There have been confrontations...The momma came to feed the babies and LBB was inside the nest!

She got scared and flew away...
So, for now, LBB sits on the perch. Don't know what will happen if the babies don't get fed. (Don't write me and tell me. I get it!)

He's back there this morning! Must have a nut loose. Poor baby birdies.

And right outside the door is that lavender plant. It's "buzzing" with bunches of yellow bees....

And it smells wonderful!

Rain! ~ Marine Corps League BBQ ~ Ice Cream Day

Good 60º, RAINING, cloudy morning. Humidity is at 78%. OMG, rain. Real rain! YIPPEEEE..... no watering today!

Interesting all the coincidences between Jerry and I. He had a daughter Kristen (long story). I have a daughter Kristen. He and I both had birthdays on the 2nd of the month. Our ex's on the 22nd of the month. All of us 6 months apart.  My children and his parents born on the same dates. Another one was Jerry's first assignment out of the Sheriff's Academy was HOJJ in the "Queen Tank".

(I like this picture... great angle!)
How funny, my daughter's first assignment straight from the Academy was HOJJ "Queen Tank". OMG. So, HOJJ built in 1924 and abandoned in 1994 is going to reopen in 2014.

If you are familiar with the building, click on the "flash tour" at the end of the article for photos. So interesting.

The Marine Corps League BBQ was so nice! I had a great time talking with friends. Food was AWESOME! Such good cooks in that bunch. Three different potato salads, all wonderful. A couple pasta dishes, hot, and GOOD! Hot dogs, sausages, and hamburgers for everyone. My cake went over well too.

The Young Marines were there also.

Some of the fellas entertained us with a 'slightly different' rendition of the Marine Corps Hymn... played with tin cans, kazoos, and bells...

Good job fellas!!!!
