4 Celebrities Who Have Spent Time Behind Bars

In 2007, Paris Hilton was sentenced to jail for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case for which she served 23 days behind bars. Here are 3 more celebrities you probably didn’t know that served time in jail...

Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg was charged with the attempted murder and assault of two Vietnamese men at the age of 16. He attacked Thahn Lam first, knocking him unconscious with a large wooden stick while shouting racial epithets. Later that day, he attacked another man by punching him in the face. After the altercations, which reportedly both involved racial slurs. Wahlberg was sentenced to two years in prison for attempted murder but only served a 45 day prison sentence. "I want people to remember my past so that I can serve as an example of how lives can be turned around," Mark wrote in a request for pardon.

Tim Allen
Allen is most recognized for his role on the sitcom Home Improvement, and for his voiceover work (Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story). The comedian and actor  pleaded guilty in 1978 to drug trafficking after being caught by an undercover agent with 1.4 pounds of cocaine at a Michigan airport. He ended up spending 28 months in prison for the offense. It could have been life, but Allen plea-bargained by giving the police the names of almost two dozen drug dealers in exchange for a lesser sentence. "It was a watershed moment. It put me in a position of great humility, and I was able to make amends to friends and family and refocus my life on setting and achieving goals," Allen said.

Robert Downey Jr.
In 1996, Robert Downey Jr. was pulled over for speeding and ended up being arrested on charges of driving under the influence and for having heroin, cocaine, crack, and a gun in his car. He spent time in jail and rehab but after violating his parole, he was sentenced to six months in jail. Then in 1999, he missed one of his court-ordered drug tests and was sentenced to a three year stint at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison. After a year in prison, a judge ruled that his collective time in incarceration facilities qualified him for early release.

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

  • 1/2 cups shredded zucchini (See Tip)

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º.

  2. Place the biscuit baking mix in a large bowl, then mix in the remaining ingredients except the zucchini.

  3. Fold in the zucchini, then distribute the mixture evenly in a 9" x 13" baking pan that has been coated with nonstick cooking spray. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until set in center.

  4. Let sit 5 minutes, then cut into squares and serve, or chill and rewarm just before serving.

 Tip

  • Be sure to dry your shredded zucchini with a paper towel to get rid of extra moisture! That way your Zucchini Squares won't turn out soggy.

  • This is great as is, but why not try adding some dried basil, dillweed or your favorite seasonings? And how 'bout serving these with spaghetti sauce or your own favorite dipping sauces?

All I know. Nuff said. Have a great Sunday Mother's Day. Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

Everyone has one or has someone who is like a mother to them.  On the second Sunday of May, we honor those women who are our mothers. Whether we shower her with gifts, take her to a fancy dinner or make her a homemade card, what moms want most is to be surrounded by the love of their family.  Knowing the people they love are safe, sound and healthy is a mom’s number one priority.
HISTORY
Mother’s Day has been celebrated around the world since, well, since motherhood. In the United States, Julia Ward Howe inspired the first movement toward a national Mother’s Day during the Civil War. Appealing to the public for a “Mother’s Day for Peace” after witnessing the devastation left by war, Howe went on an international crusade. While her efforts never gained formal recognition for an official observance, she was acknowledged posthumously in 1988 for her achievements and her efforts for women’s rights.
It was in 1905 when Mother’s Day was finally introduced successfully by Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis who had followed Howe’s campaign and had pursued her own volunteer efforts during the Civil War. Her mother died May 9, 1905, and she missed her greatly. She started a dedicated letter-writing campaign to declare an official Mother’s Day. Through Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, the first Mother’s Day was observed on May 10, 1908.
This day, to honor Anna Jarvis’s mother, grew into a National Observance until in 1911 when every state participated. Soon it was spreading internationally, and on May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.
Some of us were wildly fortunate to have such wonderful mothers! I was, for sure. Margaret Elizabeth Laney was an awesome lady. Miss you so much Mom!!!

Interesting about the Guinness record of oldest person

Jeanne Louise Calment (French: [ʒan lwiz kalmɑ̃]; 21 February 1875 – 4 August 1997) was a French supercentenarian and the oldest human whose age is well-documented, with a lifespan of 122 years and 164 days. Her longevity attracted media attention and medical studies of her health and lifestyle.
According to census records, Calment outlived both her daughter and grandson. In January 1988, at age 112, she was widely reported to have been the oldest living person, and in 1995, at age 120, was declared the oldest person to have ever lived.

She remained in fine health for the majority of her life – she even took up fencing at the tender age of 85, and continued to ride her bicycle into her 100s. She claimed that her secret to long life was olive oil, port and chocolate; she gave up smoking at the age of 117. She remained clear thinking right up to the day she passed away on August 4, 1997
Her father, Nicolas Calment (8 November 1837 – 28 January 1931), was a shipbuilder, and her mother, Marguerite Gilles (20 February 1838 – 18 September 1924), was from a family of millers. She had an older brother, François (25 April 1865 – 1 December 1962). Some of her close family members also lived an above-average lifespan: her brother lived to the age of 97, her father to 93, and her mother to 86.

In 1986, Calment became the oldest living person in France at the age of 111. Her profile increased during the centennial of Vincent van Gogh's move to Arles, which occurred from February 1888 to April 1889 when she was 13–14 years old. Calment claimed to reporters that she had met Van Gogh at that time, introduced to him by her (future) husband in her uncle's shop. She remembered the meeting as a disappointment, and described him as ugly and "very disagreeable", adding that he "reeked of alcohol". She was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person when she was 112. At the age of 114, she briefly appeared in the 1990 documentary film Vincent and Me, walking outside and answering questions. Her profile further increased when Guinness named her the oldest person ever in 1995. Far exceeding any other verified human lifespan, Calment was widely reckoned the best-documented supercentenarian ever recorded. For example, she was listed in fourteen census records, beginning in 1876 as a one-year-old infant. After Calment's death, at 122 years and 164 days, 116-year-old Marie-Louise Meilleur became the oldest validated living person. Several claims to have surpassed Calment's age were made, but no such case was proven. For over two decades, Calment has held the status of the oldest-ever human being whose age was validated by modern standards.

Each year on May 8th, millions of people across the country celebrate National Have a Coke Day. Coca-Cola, often referred to as Coke, is a carbonated soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company.
Coke is a registered trademark of the Coca-Cola Company in the United States since March 27, 1944.  As of 2013, Coke distributes products in over 200 countries around the world as consumers down more than 1.8 million company beverage servings each day.
While the holiday focuses on the bubbly, carbonated beverage, the drink and it’s associated memorabilia inspires collectors across generations. From sign art to vintage soda fountain glassware, collectors love to replicate classic flavors with authentic style.

NATIONAL HAVE A COKE DAY HISTORY

In the late 19th century, John Pemberton invented Coca-Cola, at Pemberton’s Eagle Drug and Chemical House in Columbus, Georgia. He intended to patent the beverage as medicine. However, Asa Griggs Candler bought out the business. Candler’s marketing tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century.
Coco-Cola Timeline:
1891 – Bottling of Coco-Cola begins for the first time at the Biedenharn Candy Company in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Interesting about Oregon's State Bird.....

The western meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) is a medium-sized icterid bird, about 8.5 in (22 cm) in length. It nests on the ground in open grasslands across western and central North America. It feeds mostly on bugs, but will also feed on seeds and berries. The western meadowlark has distinctive calls described as watery or flute-like, which distinguish it from the closely related eastern meadowlark. The western meadowlark is the state bird of six states: MontanaKansasNebraskaNorth DakotaOregon, and Wyoming.

Western meadowlark adults have yellow underparts with a black "V" on the breast and white flanks streaked with black. Their upper parts are mostly brown, but also have black streaks. These birds have long, pointed bills and their heads are striped with light brown and black bands.
Measurements:
  • Length: 6.3-10.2 in
  • Weight: 3.1-4.1 oz
  • Wingspan: 16.1 in
These birds have a flute-like warbled song. These calls contrast with the simple, whistled call of the eastern meadowlark.

The breeding habitats of western meadowlarks are grasslands, prairies, pastures, and abandoned fields, all of which may be found across western and central North America, as far south as northern Mexico. In regions where their range overlaps with the eastern species, these birds prefer thinner, drier vegetation; the two type of birds generally do not interbreed but do defend territory against one another. Their nests are situated on the ground and are covered with a roof woven from grass. There may be more than one nesting female in a male's territory. Nests are sometimes destroyed by mowing operations with eggs and young in them.
Western meadowlarks are permanent residents throughout much of their range. Northern birds may migrate to the southern parts of their range; some birds also move east in the southern United States.

These birds forage on the ground or in low to semi-low vegetation. They sometimes search for food by probing with their bills. They mainly eat insects, although they will consume seeds and berries. In winter, these birds often feed in flocks.

The western meadowlark is the state bird of six states: MontanaKansasNebraskaNorth DakotaOregon, and Wyoming. The northern cardinal, which represents seven states, is the only bird to hold the status of state bird in more states.
During the 2017 regular session of the Oregon Legislature, there was a short-lived controversy over the western meadowlark's status as state bird versus the osprey. The sometimes-spirited debate included a legislator playing the meadowlark's song on his smartphone over the House microphone. A compromise was reached in SCR 18, which was passed on the last day of the session, designating the western meadowlark as the state songbird and the osprey as the state raptor.

On May 7 we are charged with breaking down obstacles on National Barrier Awareness Day.  We are responsible for dissolving stigmas that keep people with disabilities from advancing in education.  It’s an opportunity to tear down walls and build ramps that will help provide access.  Where there are misunderstandings, there is potential for the development of new technology that may bridge the gap.  Policies that are antiquated and are preventing those with disabilities from accessing their full potential can be re-assessed.  If there was ever a time to speak up about questionable treatment of a human being, National Barrier Awareness Day encourages us to do so now.
“Today some 36 million Americans suffer from some form of handicap. Eighty percent of Americans will experience some disability in their lifetime. That makes it necessary for all of us to understand and appreciate both the barriers they must surmount and the contributions that they can make to our society.
Many disabled people face financial, cultural, and physical barriers because of a lack of public understanding of their needs. We must become more aware of the barriers that prevent or inhibit so many of our fellow Americans from participating fully in the life of our society, and how much more they could contribute if those obstacles were removed….”
Visible and invisible barriers are equally difficult to overcome.  With advocacy, education and awareness these obstacles can be lifted, empowering people with disabilities to live more independent fulfilled lives.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Break the barriers and work toward eliminating all of the cultural, employment, legal, and physical obstacles that confront individuals with disabilities!  Share your support using #BarrierAwarenessDay.
HISTORY
Proclamation 5472, signed by United States President Ronald Reagan, was released by the Office of the Press Secretary on May 8, 1986, declaring May 7 of 1986 as National Barrier Awareness Day. Since that day, many people across the country have continued to observe National Barrier Awareness Day each year on May 7.
