Good 46º dark cloudy morning, again! Stayed in the 60ºs yesterday and here we didn't get any rain, but over to the west of us they did and my friend down by Sacramento said it POURED BUCKETS down there.

 

 

Yesterday out in the backyard were a couple of Canadian Geese just resting by the tubs of water..........

Interesting about Dodger Stadium.....

This baseball park is occasionally called by the metonym Chavez Ravine (the name of the canyon where the stadium is located). Dodger Stadium is the home field of the Los Angeles Dodgers the city's Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. The stadium was built in less then 3 years opened on the 10th of April, 1962. The construction was financed by private sources and costed $23 million.

Dodger Stadium is currently the third-oldest ballpark in MLB, ranking well behind Wrigley (1916, Chicago) and Fenway (1912, Boston). Another distinguishing feature of the place is its symmetrical outfield, the only in the whole National League.

• Dodger Stadium appeared in several popular movies, such as The Fast and the Furious, Star Trek, Transformers and Fantastic Four.
• Dodger Stadium sells the most hot dogs of all MLB parks.

 

 

 

 My friend Charline's mom had box seats at the stadium and Charline Aubin, her bf Sid Hackle (LASD SR Capt), Jerry, and I would go to the games and sit in those seats. They were right over the Dodger dougout (1) and the cover (2) over the dougout is where we'd set our beers! When the players came out to play they would always say hi to us!

This recipe for Strawberry Muffins is the perfect reason to check out your local U-Pick farm, 'cause you're going to want to use the season's best in this recipe! These Strawberry Muffins are simply delicious. They make a great morning treat and an even better afternoon dessert.

 

• 1/4 cup melted butter
• 1/3 cup milk
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries

 

1. Preheat oven to 375º. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
2. In a large bowl, combine butter, milk, egg, and vanilla; stir until blended. Add flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt; stir until just moistened. Gently stir in strawberries. Spoon batter evenly into muffin cups.
3. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove from muffin tin and cool on wire rack.

Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and spread with some cream cheese.

Observed annually on May 19, National Devil’s Food Cake Day is enjoyed by chocolate cake lovers throughout the country and around the world.

Devil’s Food cake is a heavenly chocolate cake.  It differs from a regular chocolate cake by its darker color and tends to be more moist and airy.  Devil’s Food cake recipes use hot or boiling water as the primary liquid. Cocoa is typically utilized in the batter, as opposed to chocolate, and coffee can be added for a distinctive flavor.  A delicious chocolate frosting usually accompanies the cake.

Recipes for Devil’s Food cakes often appeared alongside recipes for Angel Food cakes.  One of the earliest recipes appeared in the August 10, 1898, edition of the Hagerstown Exponent of Hagerstown, Indiana.

Good 48º low foggy-like cloudy day. 

It stayed cloudy and cool yesterday. 

We topped at 62º. In 2008 we topped at 100º! Normal temps for this time of year are in the 70ºs. 

Yesterday was a trip into Medford for a yearly imaging test. Then to Costco for a few items. I lucked out, since rain was predicted, it didn't rain! Costco was a crowded mess and fortunately I got out of there quickly.  Back to my town for prescription pick up, package at post office, and some chicken, wine, and organic hot dogs. Taaaa daaaa.... home and car unloaded. Time for wine then!

Interesting about Blue Whales...

Because of its large size, several organs of the blue whale are the largest in the animal kingdom. A blue whale's tongue weighs around 5,952 pounds and, when fully expanded, its mouth is large enough to hold up to 19,841 pounds of food and water. A female Asian elephant's average weight is also 5,952 pounds.

Their African counterparts are heavier: about 8,818 pounds.

And and still a couple of them could easily fit inside a blue whale.

Ham and Cheese Lasagna

We bet you've tried making ground beef lasagna before, but have you ever tried it with ham? Our Ham and Cheese Lasagna is a fun twist on an all-time classic and a great way to mix things up at the dinner table. If you're looking for a way to use that leftover ham from the holidays, then this is the easy casserole recipe for you!

 

• 1 (10-1/2-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
• 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
• 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
• 1 (10.8-ounce) package frozen cut broccoli, prepared according to package directions (see Note)
• 2 cups deli ham, chopped
• 8 oven-ready lasagna noodles
• 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
• 1 cup shredded cheddar jack cheese

1. Preheat oven to 350º. Coat a 9- x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
2. In a large bowl, combine soup, ricotta cheese, and cream cheese; mix well. Add broccoli and ham; mix well.
3. Spread 1/3 of the broccoli mixture over bottom of prepared baking dish. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over that. Spread with another 1/3 of the broccoli mixture and sprinkle with 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup cheddar jack cheese. Arrange 4 noodles over the top and cover with remaining broccoli mixture, mozzarella cheese, and cheddar jack cheese.
4. Cover with aluminum foil and bake 60 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes or until heated through. Cut and serve.

• If you prefer to make this with leftover cooked veggies, go ahead! You'll need about 3 cups of any vegetable you like for this recipe.

BTW, I posted a recipe for Mexican Meatloaf on Cinco de Mayo. My friend said she made it for the family and they loved it. Her hubby even told her he liked it better than her usual meatloaf. Here's the link for the recipe...

Armed Forces Day is a day to pay tribute to the men and women who serve the United States Armed Forces.  Armed Forces Day, which is celebrated on the third Saturday in May, is part of Armed Forces Week.

HISTORY

It was with the idea for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country that President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish this single holiday. The one-day celebration then stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.  It was on August 31, 1949, that Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and Air Force Days.

Parades, open houses, receptions and air shows were held to celebrate the first  Armed  Forces  Day held on May 20, 1950.

• 1962 – President John F. Kennedy established Armed Forces Day as an official holiday.
• The United States longest running city-sponsored Armed Forces Day Parade is held in Bremerton, Washington.
• 2012 – Bremerton celebrated the 64th year of the Armed Forces Day Parade.
