Good 36º clear sunny some ice on the barn roof morning.

 

 

 

Yesterday the clouds hung around til noon-ish.

Then we got sunshine! At 7pm it was a comfy 71º. 

 

 

 

Irregardless of our on and off cold/warm temperatures, my apple tree is blooming and my tulips are beautiful!

 

 

 

 

For our Easter Breakfast Brian, Jen, Tucker, and Sami gave both Grandma Jean and I a bouquet of roses.....

 

 

Sami made a card and we got a Reese's Easter Egg too!!!! OINK!!

Interesting about Mount Rushmore...

 

 

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial, is a sculpture carved into the granite of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the design and oversaw the work from 1927-1941. Gutzon also had help from his son Lincoln Borglum. Lincoln took over as boss of the construction when his dad died in March of 1941. Unfortunately funding also ran out in 1941 so construction stopped in October of 1941. The original design was for the figures to be from the waist up not just heads.

South Dakota Historian, Doane Robinson is credited with conceiving the idea of carving figures somewhere in the Black Hills to promote tourism. It was sculptor Gutzon himself that decided to use Presidents instead of American West heroes. The order of Presidents is from left to right, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

 

 

Kraft Parmesan Meatloaf...

 

 

 

1/2 cup Olivo by Classico traditional Pasta Sauce, divided

1 pound lean ground beef

1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onions

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/2 t. dried Italian seasoning

1/4 cup + 2 T. Kraft Grated Parmesan Cheese, divided

 

Heat oven to 375º.

Reserve 1/4 cup each pasta sauce and cheese. Mix remaining ingredients until just blended.

Shape meat mixture into loaf in a 12x8 baking dish.

Top with remaining pasta sauce and cheese.

Bake 40-45 minutes or until done (160º)

National Jelly Bean Day is observed each year on April 22.  

While candies made in a similar manner existed before the jelly bean, Boston confectioner William Schrafft made them popular during the Civil War.  With their firm exterior, jelly beans were the first candies to be sold by the pound. Schrafft encouraged his customers to send them to Union soldiers.

During the 1930s, jelly beans became closely associated with the Easter holiday but are now enjoyed year round.  Jelly Beans were Ronald Reagan’s favorite treat.  

** In my kitchen I kept a jar with Jelly Bellies in it. When I babysat our little granddaughter Alex she would always ask for some. She loved them. That is what I nicknamed her, Jelly Bean,  hence the email JellyBeansBobo!  "Bobo" because she couldn't say "grandma", she called me Bobo.

Good Easter morning.

 

When I first got up you could still see the moon, hiding among the clouds...

 

 

We started off pretty cold, 34º, with ice on the barn roof! 

 

 

This morning, early, I met Brian, Jen, Tucker, Sami, and Jean at Taprock for their Easter Buffet.

 

 

I had melon, salmon, biscuits and gravy, egg/spinach souffle. YUMMY!! 

 

 

Our waiter, Evan, was super. I LOVE his mustache!

Interesting about Lost Lake, Oregon.............

 

 

During the rainy fall and winter, most Oregonians probably don't give much thought to Lost Lake, a shallow lake surrounded by pine trees that sits near a highway.

But drivers might do a double take during summer. During the dry months, the 85-acre lake vanishes and turns into a meadow.

The reason? Two hollow lava tubes at the bottom of the lake are constantly draining the lake dry, much like a bathtub left unplugged.

"The lake bed begins to fill in the late fall, when the amount of rain coming in starts exceeding the ability of the lava tubes to drain off the water," said Jude McHugh, a spokeswoman for the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. "And it continues to fill all winter long in a series of rain or snowstorms."

As the rainy season peters out, the 9-foot-deep (2.7 meters) lake loses its water source, and water disappears down the lava tubes until it's gone, McHugh said. The lake's watery boom-and-bust cycle repeats itself every year, she added.

When it comes to breakfast, it's always fun when we can find ways to shake it up and bring some new flavors to the table. Our Mini Italian Breakfast Casseroles are a delicious blend of Italian cheeses, spinach, and ham that give a fresh taste to your morning meal. Best of all, because they're mini, everyone gets their own personal breakfast casserole, so no one has to fight over the last bite.

 

 

 

• 4 eggs
• 3 tablespoons milk
• 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 cup packed baby spinach
• 1/3 cup diced cooked ham
• 1/4 cup Italian blend cheese

 

 

1. Preheat oven to 375º. Coat 4 ramekins with cooking spray. 
    
2. In a medium bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and pepper. Stir in spinach, ham, and Italian blend cheese. Divide egg mixture evenly into ramekins and place on baking sheet. 
    
3. Bake 20 minutes or until eggs are set in center. Serve immediately.

Easter is observed on the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox. Considered Christianity’s most important holy day, it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Depending on which calendar a church follows, some will celebrate Easter earlier than others.

Leading up to Easter Sunday is an entire season of Easter observances beginning with Ash Wednesday, the official beginning of Lent. Lent is a time of fasting and reflection which represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness for 40 days. Many know this as a time when Christians give something up for Lent.

Then during Holy Week, the Sunday before Easter is known as Palm Sunday. It commemorates Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem on a donkey just five days before He was crucified. Maundy Thursday remembers Jesus’s last supper; Good Friday is the day of the crucifixion, Holy Saturday is the period between the crucifixion and the resurrection and Easter Sunday.

HOW TO OBSERVE

If you choose, you can participate in any number of church services.  Dye eggs with children and have an Easter egg hunt.  Local communities hold annual Easter egg hunts as well, so check your local social media, newspapers and community listings for dates and times.  Use #Easter to share on social media.

HISTORY

Before Easter, Passover was the primary holy day celebrated, and it is closely linked with Easter. Jesus’s last supper was a Passover meal. By the 2nd century, Easter (Pascha) was being celebrated alongside Passover as well as pagan spring festivals.

The tradition of an Easter Bunny comes from medieval Germany where the Osterhase or Easter Hare would lay its colorful eggs in nests prepared by children. Immigrants in the 18th-century settling in the Dutch Pennsylvania countryside brought this fable and tradition with them to the United States.

Dying eggs is a tradition that dates back thousands of years across many cultures.  Eggs have long been a symbol of rebirth, fertility, and life springing forth.  Today Easter egg hunts take place across the country, and it is not unusual to see a giant Easter Bunny surrounded by children in their Sunday best getting their pictures taken.

Good 50º dark cloudy morning.

 

Clouds started moving in yesterday with a prediction of "possible rain"....

 

In the night we got rain, 1/4". 

 

 

More rain predicted for today. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm! That's good for the Easter Egg hunters!

 

 

Yesterday Brian's friend/plumber, Doug Gillette, came over and took care of my plugged up sink pipes. The plumbing in this old house sucks! Anyway, thankfully Doug got it fixed!!

The Ford Mustang was officially unveiled by Henry Ford II at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York, in 1964. That same day, the new car also debuted in Ford showrooms across America and almost 22,000 Mustangs were immediately snapped up by buyers.

 

 

Named for a World War II fighter plane, the Mustang was the first of a type of vehicle that came to be known as a “pony car.” Ford sold more than 400,000 Mustangs within its first year of production. The first model carried a manufacturer's suggested list price of $2,368

 

Today the 2019 Mustang will sell for $25,000 to $30,000!

 Sandy'd Crab Pie Dip

 

1 8oz pkg cream cheese

1/2 t. horseradish

2 T. mayonnaise

1/2 onion, finely chopped

1/2 bottle of chile sauce

1 can flaked crab

 

Blend cheese, horseradish, mayonnaise, onion. Spread onto plate, flatten and smooth top. Refrigerate overnight.

 

Before serving, spread chile sauce over top and flake crab meat over all.

 

Serve with Ritz, rye crackers, or toast rounds.

National Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day is observed annually on April 20th. Americans have been enjoying this springtime cake since the early 1900s when many cakes were made in cast iron skillets.

To make a Pineapple Upside Down Cake, line the bottom of a cake pan with pineapple rings. A cherry is then placed in the center of each ring followed by a butter and sugar mixture.  Cake batter is then poured over the pineapples and baked.  When the cake is done, it is turned upside down onto a platter before serving, revealing a delightful and delicious masterpiece.
