Good 56º raining morning.

 

Rain started yesterday afternoon, just a sprinkling, but got harder. We ended up with 1/4" since yesterday and more is coming down now. See what happens when I wash my car!

 

I don't know how long I can keep the blog going, still more problems with the computer. Using my old one right now, which is slower than molasses! We'll see.............

Dinner last night was an Omaha Steak I cooked in the Air Fryer (http://www.powerairfryer.com/) with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of garlic salt, 15 minutes at 370º. The green beans are something new, from Schwans (http://www.schwans.com/).... they come in a steamer bag, frozen, and you just put them in the microwave for a few minutes and VOILA ! Really good!!!!

I am loving everything I have gotten from Schwans, like I love Omaha Steaks. Their ham and cheese omelett cookes from being frozen for 2 minutes in the micro and they are GOOD!!!!

 

Here is the little deer that was munching the grape leaves outside my bathroom window...

 

And Bruiser was out and about before the rains started...

Introduction: Doughnut History

A doughnut is a pastry, a small, fried ring of sweet, leavened dough. Doughnuts leavened with baking powder are more dense than the fluffier, yeast-leavened doughnuts.

There are many types of doughnuts. Just a few examples include bismarks or jelly doughnuts, raised doughnuts leavened with yeast, squares and twists, crullers made from twisted cake-doughnut dough and French doughnuts made with cream-puff pastry dough. Doughnuts can be filled or unfilled, plain, glazed or iced.

Originally a Dutch recipe without a hole, the dough is dropped into hot oil, and was originally called an olykoek, or oily cake. The first written reference to “doughnut” is in Washington Irving’s 1809 in History of New York, where he writes of “balls of sweetened dough, fried in hog’s fat, and called doughnuts, or olykoeks.” The first known printed record of the shortened “donut” appears in “Peck’s Bad Boy And His Pa,” a story by George W. Peck published in 1900.

As the story goes, in 1847, 16-year-old American Hanson Gregory created the hole in the center of the doughnut. He used the top of a round tin pepper container to punch the holes, so the dough would cook evenly.

Other than the Revolutionary War and the Civil war (family deaths unknown) none of my close family died in war. They served though ...... My father was in the Navy in WWI and sailed to France. My cousin (Daddy's brother's son) landed on Omaha Beach on D Day, brother-in-law Joe a Lt in Army fought in the Korean War, brother-in-law Bill and 2 of his sons were in the Navy, my Jerry a Marine tanker during Vietnam Nam War, and my son Brian an anti-terrorist USMC specialist aboard The Missouri in the Gulf War. Thank you to my family who all unselfishly served our country!

Still no computer. I am so frustrated I can't write my blog and share photos of happenings and views here and of FOOD!

My computer is not working!

We had a power outage Saturday from 10am til noon and then my computer would not load! I am so frustrated! Unk when I can get it running, so for now....no blog. Using my iPad for this post.

Smoke ~ Warmth ~ Peanut Butter Cup Cupcakes ~ Armed Forces Day

Good 45º clear sunny morning.

Really was looking forward to another super nice, clear, warmer day yesterday... and then someone started burning, whether private or BLM controlled burn I don't know... but it got icky smokey for awhile!

Comfortable temps hit 82º.....

Do you like peanut butter cups?

Well, here's a fun cupcake to make for this weekend, from Mr. Food's Test Kitchen ...

Peanut Butter Cup Cupcakes:

1 (16.25 oz) chocolate cake mix

1 cup chopped peantu butter cup candies, plus extra for garnish

1 stick of butter, softened

3 cups confectioners sugar

1 t. vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350º. Line muffin cups with paper liners.

2. Prepare cake mix according to directions, stir in peanut butter candies, and spoon batter in to cups about 3/4 full.

3. Bake according to package directions. Cool completely.

4. In large bowl mix butter and peanut butter until well combined. Add in confectioners sugar and vanilla, until smooth.

5. Frost cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and garnish with extra peanut butter candies.

Yesterday was "clean" day. Joy. Still working on some carpet where Dude had an accident in the night a couple nights ago..... runny, smelly, ICK! Fortunately my carpet is tan/brown so not much shows! Then some vacuuming.

Later a fav kind of meal... artichoke and corn on the cob. Dip choke leaves in mayonnaise and slather the mayo on the corn too!

I always cook my artichokes in boiling water with olive oil drizzled on each and sprinkled liberally with Lawry's Garlic Salt.

Today Dave will be here to brush-hog my pastures before the grass is too tall and too dry.

Armed Forces Day is a day to pay tribute to the men and women who serve the United States Armed Forces.  Armed Forces Day, which is celebrated on the third Saturday in May, is part of Armed Forces Week.

It was with the idea for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country that President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish this single holiday. The one-day celebration then stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.  It was on August 31, 1949, that Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and Air Force Days.

Parades, open houses, receptions and air shows were held to celebrate the first  Armed  Forces  Day held on May 20, 1950.

• 1962 – President John F. Kennedy established Armed Forces Day as an official holiday.
• The United States longest running city-sponsored Armed Forces Day Parade is held in Bremerton, Washington.
• 2012 – Bremerton celebrated the 64th year of the Armed Forces Day Parade.
