Rain Gutter ~ Jim Plumbridge ~ Mother's Day Smilebox ~ Crab Dip ~ Eat What You Want Day

Good 41º clear sunny morning.
Yesterday started off cold like today, but warmed to 71º  by noon. 75º by 1pm. Windy. Didn't feel that warm. Then to 78º and it finally felt warmer.
I managed to get off my butt and vacuum.
Breakfast... fruit and melon... and an Orowheat Cinnamon Raisin muffin half...

My neighbor called to say he can see the rain gutter on the backside of my barn is hanging down. Mike is coming over, probably today, and he said he could fix it. Yeah!
Today is a very special day.. my nephew Jim Plumbridge, my sister Marion's son, is celebrating ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY!!! xo (At Half Moon Bay, Ca)

Yesterday my dinner was that crab dip from yesterday's blog.

I used not just the Mrs. Dash Spicy Salt Free (black pepper, sweet chili pepper, cayenne pepper, celery seed, cumin, oregano, basil, marjoram, thyme,  coriander, mustard, rosemary, onion, garlic, tomato, paprika, citrus acid, orange peel, and oil of lemon) I also added in some Taco Seasoning (pimento chili pepper, cumin, oregano, red pepper, onion, citric acid) and some Kirkland Rustic Tuscan Seasoning, the I LOVE (garlic, sea salt, rosemary, basil, black pepper, oregano, red pepper, red & green bell peppers, lemon peel, and green onion)

I chopped the immitation crab small, added the mayo and spices and chopped up some fresh chives. Mix well, refrigerate.
So................ served it up along with some celery and some Fritos Scoops and some mashed avocado with tomato.

 OINK!!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

Eat What You Want Day
(I was a day ahead of this.. having dips for dinner!)
What would you like to have to eat today? Okay, great.....health permitting, go ahead and have any and all of your favorite foods and snacks. Because today is Eat What You Want Day.

This is what I want!!!

OK, are you all HUNGRY now???? LOL
Eat What You Want Day is definitely not a day for diets.  It is one single, solitary day in the year to go off your diet and eat something you really enjoy, Today, you can set aside your dietary "No-No" list. Today, you can splurge. Tomorrow, it's back to the diet. It is important to note that today is not intended to eat as much as you want. Rather, the goal is to eat something you otherwise wouldn't have. If you are watching carbs or calories, simply keep within your limits by eating just a small amount of that favorite treat.

Caution: People with allergies and/or medical conditions, may not be able to fully participate in this day. Simply said: Do not risk your health to participate in this day.

Crab Dip ~ Clean Up/Clean Out Day ~ Strange Business Names ~ Sally Harper ~ Asparagus & Reruns ~ Clean Up Your Room Day

Good 37º clear sunny ice on the barn roof morning. Should be warm and sunny until about Saturday, then rain expected again.
Crab Dip....

14oz pkg imitation crab meat
1 cup mayonnaise
2½-3 teaspoons Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend
Mix it all together and refrigerate until ready to serve. May be garnished with chopped chives and serve with your favorite crackers.

This shared by Ike... LOL, this can't happen to us!

     'I CAN HEAR JUST FINE!'

Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf
one fine March day. One remarked to the other, 'Windy,
isn't it?' 'No,' the second man replied,
'it's Thursday.' And the third man chimed in,
     'So am I. Let's have a beer.'

Yesterday I was SUPER lazy. Didn't want to do ANYTHING! So, I went through a box of address and phone books sister Betty had sent me that were Mom and Dad's. Salvaged some things, others went in the trash. This is what I saved:

This was inside the Forest Lawn card....

Then I went through a box of stuff Brian brought up from the barn some time ago. (All was in my bedroom. Check the bottom of the blog to see what day this is.. I got a head start!) This box was a Christmas gift box from Bullocks in downtown LA. The sticker in the lid says it was from December 1963 and the sales clerk and it was a charge.

In the box were my report cards, letters to Mom and Dad from me, dance studio programs, Jobs Daughter programs, some pictures, pay stubs (a whopping $1.50 and hour jobs), and tax records.  I had a blast going through all this. Found my Driver's Training grade..... Whoot whoot... A in Driver's Training!! Mr. Kirk was a super nice guy/teacher!

Here are some hilarious business names:

Today is a special birthday... Sally Harper, wife of the infamous Wilson graduate Jim Harper. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SALLY!!! (hey Jim... Sally... send me a recent photo of you guys!!!!)

Clean Up Your Room Day

Clean Up Your Room Day is a day parents eagerly await........... and kids dread!
If you've got kids, it is very possible that their rooms are a vast wasteland, completely filled with "good stuff". "Messy" is too kind of an adjective to describe the conditions. Its impossible to walk through the room. Every dresser and shelf (and under the bed), is packed with everything imaginable. Dust has been piling up as long as your child has been around. Comfy, cozy, and quite livable to the child, its an everyday source of frustration for the "folks".
To mom and dad's delight, and every child's chagrin, Clean Up Your Room Day arrives every May 10th. Get out the shovels. Call in an industrial sized dumpster. Its time for everyone to clean your rooms!
Note to Kids: Clean Up Your Room Day also applies to your parents. You may want to inspect to assure that mom and dad practice what they preach!

Mother's Day ~ Egg Poacher ~ Miss Rogue River ~ Nyquist ~ Wind Vane ~ Butterscotch Brownies

Good 49º cloudy morning.

Yesterday I met up with Brian, Jen, Tucker, Sami, and Jean. We drove to Galice, north of us here on the Rogue River. We had brunch at the Galice Resort Restaurant..Thank you Brian and Jen!!! xoxoxo

We sat on the deck overlooking the river....

More pictures later...

Had a call from Kristen, Alex, and Jack. Her most recent chemo was Friday, a smaller dose. By yesterday she was feeling good enough they all went to brunch and was In-N-Out for dinner!! Yeah Kristen!!! Here they are at brunch:

I had a text message from my Italian son, Alex. He told me he loved me and wished me Happy Mom's Day. He sent along a photo of his "day of golf" yesterday!

When we got back to Brian and Jen's house, Brian sent him a selfie of he and I and I asked him what hole he was on. He replied, "19th hole" !! LOL. That is a golf term for those of you who don't know, it means the bar.
I got this egg poacher at the market the other day...

The first time I tried it I cooked one egg for 50 seconds. It came out with the yolk hard like hard boiled. So I tried it again using two eggs and microwaving for 1 minute, let sit 2 minutes. The eggs came out better with softer centers...

Next time will be 45 seconds for two eggs. I like the yolk sorta runny. The directions only go up to 750 watt microwave ovens, and mine is 1250 watts. Practice practice~
The good thing, it's easy peesey, add a teaspoon of water, puncture the yolk with a knife, and microwave.
And here's the TRUTH, shared by Lynn Helbing (LASD ret). Thanks Lynn!

And some GREAT news.... pal Dan Cermak, Floor Mgr at our Ace Hardware, his and Nancy's daughter Elizabeth won MISS ROGUE RIVER!!!

Wow! Congratulations Elizabeth! Way to make your parents over the top proud!!!!

Historically this date...
1960 – The Food and Drug Administration announces it will approve birth control as an additional indication for Searle's Enovid, making Enovid the world's first approved oral contraceptive pill.

1980 – In Norco, California, five masked gunman hold up a Security Pacific bank, leading to a violent shoot-out and one of the largest pursuits in California history. Two of the gunmen and one police officer are killed and thirty-three police and civilian vehicles are destroyed in the chase.

I recorded the Kentucky Derby on Saturday and watched it later. What a race! It was heart-pounding. That horse Nyquist is awesome! No losses. Wow.

The recorded show was 3½ hours long. I skimmed through a lot of it... 3 races... the first being the 2 year olds, the second being the "turf race" (on grass), and the third was the derby race. Lots of fashion shots. How to make mint juleps. And lots of commentary.

When I got home yesterday afternoon Dave and PJ were up here. They had a gift for me, for feeding their fish and looking after their place while they were gone to Quartzsite all winter. They said I had to "find" the gift, it will be noticeable when the wind blows,  and they left! Well, dang! I found it... a wind vane...
The top and the bottom spin separately when the wind blows. So cool!!! xo
Later I was not in the cooking mood so dinner was:

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.
