Two birthdays today... my pals Patty & Cliff's son Chuck's wife Linda (whew)... is celebrating today. Well not so much as she just had back surgery yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA. (pass it on, Chuck! xo)

Don't know what kind of bird it's from. Made a small wreath a few years back so added it to ..... also had one from before:

I love feathers!! This is a larger wreath that hangs over my desk:

Mostly turkey feathers with a peacock feather from the Arcadia Arboretum and up at the top left is a pheasant feather.

As I headed out to do some shopping, the Trees Inc guys were still on my road. I thanked them for bringing in my trash cans. Nice. Then into Grants Pass for a few items from Safeway...I was hungry, not good, so I had a blast shopping. More on that later...

Then I stopped at Kitchen Company where Jennifer works...

to drop off some pictures I took of her critters and some Shed Relief for her to try on her cat and maybe dogs too.

Works for Dude, my shed monster!  Nancy and Jeannie both said it worked for their dogs too. Got rid of the itching and shedding. Omega 6 & 9 fatty acids and when missing from their diet it make for excessive shedding. It keeps their skin and coat in top condition.

 

After I got home and put all the groceries away and was STARVING I fixed a plate of the sushi I got at the market. I mixed some Siracha Mayonnaise and some Tabasco Spicy Soy Sauce for dipping and poured a glass of cold saké!OMGOOD!!!

 

  

Then I was too full to think about cooking again .... Chair time.

National Hammock Day

Summer is in full swing. It's time to slow down and to relax. During the Dog Days of summer (and all of the other summer days, too), there is no better place to slow down and relax, than on a hammock.

 

Hammock Day is appropriately celebrated right in the middle of the Dog Days of summer (July 3 though August 11th.

 

Hammock Day exists to enjoy summer as it should be enjoyed. People celebrate Hammock Day by spending as much time relaxing on it as possible. Getting out of your hammock to get a snack, or your favorite summer beverage is okay. But, it is not a day for work. Cutting the lawn is forbidden on this day.

 

The roots of Hammock Day and Hammock Day history is largely unknown. Maybe the originator was too busy napping on his or her hammock!?!

Good 59º clear sunny morning. Yesterday - 100º. Supposed to be cooler today. Ha!

 

Had a call from Aaron (my step-son, Jerry's son) last evening... He and Marie had a baby girl yesterday! She was 6#8oz and 19½" long. Her name is Madaline Alyssa ...

Of course her last name is Maxwell so with those initials we can call her MAM! Welcome to the world pretty girl! Congratulations Aaron and Marie!!! Good job!!!

 

 

There just have been too many tragedies lately... the Marines and Sailor that were shot by the lunatic, the fire and destruction of vehicles in the Cajon Pass (which by the way, my pal Trish's son JJ who drives a semi just by minutes avoided the mess by taking a detour!), the bridges collapse on I-10 between So. Cal desert and Phoenix, and up here an 83 year old man heading north back to Washington hit a tree in Central Point and his car caught fire ... he was burned horribly (no help to get him out of his car.. middle of the day! nobody stopped!!) and his two dogs died in the fire. Count your blessings folks!

Heading out yesterday to make a quick run into town to mail letters, pick up a package, get prescriptions, and a tray of chicken thighs for Dude.... at the end of my driveway was the Trees Inc truck.

He was nice, I apologized for making him move.

Got the shopping done and some items for dinner. Came home, got everything put away, and was a sweaty mess. It was 94º out there and I am READY FOR FALL!!

 

Speaking of Fall... Jennifer gave me these NEAT pajamas... dogs all over them wearing glasses! Will be so nice and snuggy!

 

 

Dinner was a can of Progresso Lite beef and vegetable soup. Not in the mood to cook~! Watched 2 Hallmark movies but fell asleep during the second one!

 

Brian texted me this photo of Sami.... ready for sleepytime.... he said it was like finding ET! LOL

Good 58º with 58% humidity clear sunny morning. Hit 100º yesterday. UGH.

 

Remember when I made the rice/farro/veggie/chicken dish and then said "breakfast"? Well, here was yesterday's breakfast...

It was great and I felt as if I was eating things so good for me!

 

 

 

Yesterday as I sat at my desk the Bruise decided he needed attention so he jumps up on my desk! Then he proceeds to play with the computer mouse! But mom, it's a MOUSE!

And then a nap on top of the mouse!

Yesterday was our former Sheriff Sherman Block's birthday. His daughter Barbara posted this on FaceBook:

In 1924 many things happened that became part of history. Calvin Coolidge won the presidential election, Goldwyn & Mayer film studios merged, The Ten Commandments movie was released and on July 19th Sherman Block was born. Dad, tomorrow is your birthday and had you lived you would be 91. There isn't a day that you are not in my thoughts. You accomplished so much in your 74 years; you had a genius IQ, graduated every level of education with honors (receiving an honorary doctorate from Pepperdine), served your country during WWII, remained by my side my entire life in good times and bad, and became one of the greatest and most respected law enforcement professionals in this country and the world would ever know. You came to ingratiate yourself to so many people in all walks of life. Most importantly you earned the honor of being the best father I could ever have. God bless you dad. I hope you are resting in peace.

I looked out and here was this doe eating the grape leaves..

After that she went over to the shade by the water tubs and took a rest. I didn't take her picture because I might have scared her opening the blinds.

 

Later I made some Red Lobster muffins.

Dinner was at Jennifer's. She made a stuffed flank steak, Mike cooked it on the bbq. I brought the muffins and some wine. Oh and also dog treats!

National Lollipop Day

 

 

 

George Smith, owner of Bradley Smith Company, invented and patented the Lollipop in 1908.  Legend has it, that George named the Lollipop after his favorite racehorse " Lolly Pop".

 

The Racine Confectioner's Machinery Company claims to have created National Lollipop Day.

 

There is a little controversy as to who first created the automated Lollipop machine. The Racine Confectioner's Machinery Company claims to be the first to create a machine to automatically make Lollipops. Their machine made 40 lollipops at a time. Sam Born of California also claims to have created the first automated lollipop machine, in 1916. It was called the "Born Sucker Machine".

 

There is no congressional record, nor presidential proclamation, which is required to make this a "national" day.
