Good 58º cloudy morning...

Yesterday it was 90º by 2pm. Yuck!

Hard to believe it's the end of May already!

"Got an email yesterday from Mike Nelson (LASD ret) and the told me the following:

Ever wonder how restaurants always have ripe avocados? Put the unripe avocado in microwave for 45 seconds, let sit for six hours, it will be ripe, firm and tasty.

Ok, if you have a green avocado, try this and let me know if it works!!!"

So.......................... I got avocados at Costco, shared most of them and kept one to experiment with. I let it sit overnight after the 45 seconds in the microwave... then cut it open.

Going from being hard as a rock to edible. Amazing.

Yesterday for breakfast I sauteéd some sweet peppers, added in a couple eggs, toped with crumbles of sausage and bacon. Let cook slow with lid on. Served on a bed of baby spinach, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese.....

Yesterday was "mow day" again. Worked until it was too hot. As I was mowing along I saw something moving in the grass... it was a teeny tiny ground squirrel baby! I picked it up and rubbed it's head and it relaxed. It was so scared. I put it up under a tree by a ground squirrel hole. 

Then back to mowing...

Then... I saw another one!

Ground squirrels are not my favorite critter, but NO WAY could I kill those babies!!!! I hope their mother finds them! Soooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!!!

Dinner was an artichoke...

I also roasted some more carrot chips. They are so good!! Toss with olive oil and garlic salt... 350º for 25 minutes. 

LOL, sitting in my chair after dinner and got a text from Brian ... his dinner:

When he was small he could never eat the whole artichoke, so lucky Mom, I got the heart! It was a sad day when he could eat it all!!!

Good 52º a couple wispy clouds morning. Got to 89º yesterday. Today is supposed to be cooler and partly cloudy.

 

YEAH it's payday!!!!

 

My shopping at Costco:

I love lemon! In so many things.....

I keep it handy with a pour spout in this old wine bottle "Jelly Bean" my daughter-in-law Jen gave me...

Dude gets his boneless skinless chicken thighs cooked in chicken stock and gets a little extra with his food. I like to add some to my daily herb tea. And of course the zip bags are the most handy for freezing stuff!

I also got a couple bags of sugar. Sooooooooooooooooo much cheaper at Costco. I use it to make hummingbird necter. The little one pound bag at the market is $5 and the big five pound bag at Costco is $5 !!!

I got a bag of artichokes and shared them with Jennifer. Love them and I would eat them all, but it's better to share!

Keeping them in a glass of water after trimming the stem is a good way to keep them healthy for a few days until you are ready to cook them.

And, the Bruise brought me a 'gift'! UGH.... not sure what it is, looked like a rat with that tail...

Yesterday after doing some chores I went into town to get a prescription and see Tim about the shipper for the gun forms. I sent a copy of it to Jay in Michigan. As I was leaving the pharmacy drive up there was this what looked like a field cricket... not big enough for a grasshopper....

He was a tough little guy. He hung on as I drove, turned facing the front of the vehicle and stayed there until I reached a speed of 45mph. Bye little funny guy!

 

Last night I was going to meet up with the "gang" (Pattersons, Yellins, and a few others) at the Elks Lodge for dinner, but my back was totally killer, so I stayed home. Didn't even cook. Had a couple slices of cheese for dinner! Boring............................... Learn About Composting Day

Learn About Composting Day is a great opportunity to "Go Green" and help the environment. Composting is easy. It makes you feel good, knowing you are doing your part to keep our environment a little bit cleaner. You may be surprised at how easy it is to compost. And, everyone can compost.

What to compost- As you learn about composting, you will be surprised at all the things you can compost. It is common knowledge, that you can compost garden and yard vegetation, as well as kitchen (vegetable) scraps. But, you can also recycle many other things, including papers, untreated wood, and cardboard. Cardboard paper towel and toilet paper holders are great items to compost.

You can use  compost around your plants, to feed them, keep the weeds down, and to help retain soil moisture. If you don't have a yard, you can give it away to family and friends that do. Your reward will be flowers, vegetables or herbs from thankful gardeners.

Did you Know?  You can make Compost Tea with your compost materials to feed your indoor and outdoor plants!  It will save you $$$.
