Today is the birthday of former Wilsonite and friend, Mike Bastian. Happy Birthday Mike!!

I got my Alert 1  and hooked it up yesterday. The phone hooks into the machine and the machine hooks into the phone line. I pushed the button on the bracelet and Jaden answered with, "Susan Maxwell do you need help?" I told him it was the test as I just hooked it up. He verified my information, address etc. Really nice. So, if I fall down and can't reach my wine or have a heart attack in bed, push the button, they will call Brian and tell him to come check on me! Or if he doesn't answer or suggests they do...  they will call 911. I feel much better now. A big sigh of relief. The machine is on my desk..

But... since I have Bruiser who climbs on everything in the house except the kitchen counters.. I put a basket over the machine so he can't step on it accidentally and set it off!

....and yes you ancient deputies... that is an old LASD flashlight! It's a Bright Star No. 1626 and says Property of Los Angeles County. When I went to turn it in, they just said, keep it! They didn't need any antiques!

Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas on October 12, 1492. Now..... the extreme lefties in Seattle have changed the name of Columbus Day to "Indigenous People's Day".

When we were at Blondie's Bistro Friday, Sami drew me these two pictures.... the first one is a "square rainbow"...

Yesterday I was too tired to care. I did work on the 100 photos I took at Jennifer Murphy's house in September and got them on a DVD for her. Here is one of her dogs.. Heaven. She is the sweetest thing! I just love her....

and her brother Keeper... I love him too. Super great dogs!!

At that time there was the Onion Mountain Fire close to Jennifer's house.. a few photos... It's totally under control now..

The other exciting stuff I did was laundry. Joy. I also contemplated a new recipe... using asparagus, Alfredo sauce, and brown rice or Quinoa or...... We'll see... oh yes, and mushrooms and a couple chilis. Dinner was a rerun of the spaghetti casserole (Yummmmm) and Hawaii 50 and NCIS New Orleans and Last Man Standing.

October 12th.

Old Farmers Day honors the hard labor of farmers throughout American history. Early American culture was heavily a farming culture. Early settlers cleared fields and pristine woods, to farm the rich land. They brought seeds and farming methods with them. They found new seeds, and learned new methods along the way. Many of those new farming methods came from Native Americans, who were already farming the land. Most notably, was the concept of hilling, or mounding soil.

The month of October is a very appropriate month to celebrate and honor farmers. At this time, the harvest is largely complete. It means that farmers can take a break from their labors, to enjoy this celebration.

A farmers' work is long and hard. It certainly doesn't make a person rich. It has its good years, and its bad ones. There is no guarantee of a good crop. Weather, pests, and disease problems often prove disastrous. But, through it all, farmers have persevered. And, their ceaseless hard work sets an example for all.

As Americans, we tip our hat to all farmers for their contributions to American culture, values,society, and the economy. Happy Old Farmers Day!

Then to Costco, which was crazy crowded.

Home to unload the loot. Later I met up with Brian, Jen, Tucker, Sami, and Jean at Blondie's Bistro to celebrate (late) Jean's birthday.

I was early so sat at the bar and chatted with the bartendress, Jessica, who was sooooo nice and fun. She said her mom is a wine lover so she may join our SOW Sistas!

Jessica had me try some La Crema Chardonnay. Normally it's quite a bit more pricey than the Kendall Jackson or whatever Chard I get, but her cash register was charging the came amount for either. Ok, then... Very good. Very smooth.

Brian had the double bacon cheeseburger!

The birthday girl, Jean, had a salad. I honestly don't know what Jen had. I had this eggplant hummus Mediterranean plate... prosciutto, provolone, cucumber, tomatoes, Kalamata olives .... Really good.

At Blondie's they had the Stanford Ca vs Washington State football game on. In the end Stanford beat Washington 34-17 ! Whoot!!!! Go Cardinals!
 

Here is your NFL lineup for game day tomorrow.... The Chiefs and the Saints have byes...
