Peanut Butter ~ Skunk Trap ~ Arizona ~ Marinated Peppers and Tuna ~ Lemon Drop Martini

Good 57ยบ couple clouds morning. 59% humidity! UGH. You'd think this was the South!

Noon yesterday, a few clouds coming in..

When I was shopping on Wednesday I picked up a few things for me.... One was
OMG!!!! This is blended with honey and I could have eaten the whole jar after tasting it! They

also have
Their website sells it for $6, but Grocery Outlet sells it for $2.99. I think I'll go back and get the White Choc!!!!

Jack (former Dodger catcher!) was back yesterday and set more traps for the ground squirrels. He, so far, has trapped 4 of the little buggers!

Then an interesting story... Brian called and said he saw a skunk walk across his driveway. While out photographing a client's house (for State Farm) he was telling the guy about the skunk. The man loaned him a tube skunk catcher. It is so narrow that the skunk cannot lift it's tail to spray. Brian was in his truck on his way to the office when he called with the skunk trap with a skunk inside in the truck bed. I found this on line...

He said he didn't know what he was going to do with the skunk. The owner of the trap came down to the office and picked it up. Whew. He told Brian those traps were designed to be dropped in a barrel of water to drown the skunk.
:o(     Jerry had to get a permit from the Department of Forestry when he was catching the skunks living under our house and he had to dispose of them. Wish these traps were around back then. Boy, did that create a lot of stink here!

This came via my friend Cathy (LASD ret) ... you have to watch and share with your family and friends!
The person in this video is a professor (Ph.D.) at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona. He puts a different spin on what Obama is doing to Arizona must be why he's rated highly by his students - 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. This may be the best video produced on the illegal alien problems that are being experienced. Watch the video, it is short and makes a lot of sense. Forward the email to at least ten people you know. We need to get the word out.

Yesterday afternoon I went to Grants Pass, again, but to pick up some stuff from Brian for the JCRW basket I am putting together. Then to the Elk's for wine with GloW John and Edda. We had a good time talking with Zenita, the bartendress. She's very nice and we are on the same page politically. She's from Juno Alaska. She has some stories about that place!

Then home for dinner.

Here is an interesting recipe... if you like peppers!
Herb Marinated Peppers and Tuna

This recipe combines tuna with peppers, garlic, capers, and basil. Serve with thick slices of crusty bread for soaking up the tasty seasoned olive oil.

Ingredients:
2 cups extra virgin olive oil
1 head of garlic... peel and crush cloves
4 poblano peppers (1 pound) sliced lengthwise into 1/2" strips
1/3 cup drained capers
2  8oz jars good quality tuna, drained
1/2 cup basil leaves
Lemon wedges and crusty bread for serving..

Heat oven to 450ยบ. In a baking dish combine the olive oil, garlic, poblanos, and capers. Roast for 20 minutes. Let cool until warm. Stir in the tuna and basil. Serve with lemon wedges and bread.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Pay Day Friday! Ciao.

Lemon Juice Day

Lemon Drop Martini
1½ oz good vodka
½ oz triple sec
1 t. superfine sugar
¾ oz fresh lemon juice
4-5 ice cubes
super fine sugar for glass rim
lemon twist
Chill martini glass in freezer for at least 10 minutes prior to serving. Place vodka, triple sec, lemon juice, sugar  and ice cubes into cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Run the lemon twist around the edge of the glass, dip into the fine sugar and pour the strained martini into the chilled glass.

Commercial cultivation of lemons blossomed in both California and Florida in the 1800s, but due to a killer freeze in the winter of 1894-1895, commercial lemon culture in Florida ceased. Planting resumed in 1953 due to a need not for fresh lemons (of which there were plenty from California), but a market for frozen lemon concentrate, which had become popular (along with frozen orange concentrate), and for natural cold-press lemon oil.
Of the 200 or so cultivars (distinct varieties) of lemon that can be found in the U.S., some are best for lemon oil, some for juice and some are the best all-around. Some cultivars are more vigorous (disease-resistant), some are more productive (they bear more fruit), some have fewer seeds, some are better in humid climates like Florida, in arid climates like Arizona and Texas or in colder climates.
Lemons are hand-picked (they can’t be machine-harvested, or picked wet). They’re then sorted according to color, washed, coated with a fungicide to prevent stem-end rot, coated with a thin layer of wax for preservation and attractiveness and cured (stored) until ready for shipping.
The Lisbon lemon (above) and the Eureka
lemon are the two most prevalent in the U.S.
During curing, which can take days (or can happen in transit, as the lemons take days to be shipped to their destination), the peel of the picked fruit, which is green, turns yellow. It also grows thinner and the pulp gets juicier.

TBT ~ Shopping ~ BLT Crab Salad ~ Chicken Bacon Veggie Pasta Stir-Fry ~ Bruiser ~ Bear

Good 53ยบ pink clouds around morning. Hit 99ยบ here yesterday. Going to be 93ยบ today, or so "they" say. Then cooling to the 80ยบs for the weekend.

Happy Throw Back Thursday
My neighbor Roger and I on sawhorse ponies... 1954

Yesterday I went into Grants Pass and got the new lens put in my glasses. OMG, I can see my computer screen sooooo much better! I wore my red shirt that has sparkly glasses of wine on it and it says, "At my age... I need glasses". They guys who assemble the glasses loved it!

Then to the Dollar Store, Grocery Outlet, and Big Lots to shop for a basket I promised to put together for our JCRW Ronald Reagan BBQ in Sept. The baskets are raffled off and the proceeds go to our scholarship fund and for flags for schools and copies of the Constitution for 9th graders. When I get it, well... not a basket, but a canvas carrier, all put together I will take a picture. I got some fun stuff for it. I stopped at Elmer's. I had a coupon I paid $10 for good for $20 worth of food and drink. I ordered a glass of wine while I waited for my "to go" BLT Crab Salad... Lettuce, hardboiled egg, avocado, bacon, tomato, olives, and crab. OMGOOOOD!!

Dinner on Tuesday was a "clean out the fridge meal". This was SOOOOOO good!!
One can each of pigeon peas, sliced mushrooms, artichoke hearts, chicken (Costco), a zucchini and cherry tomatoes and a pepper from Jeannie, some stir-fry veggies, and bacon crumbles (also Costco).
Everything went into the pan that had been drizzled with olive oil... let slow cook with lid on until veggies tender.
Meanwhile cook the pasta... I just LOVE this cut spaghetti  for so many recipes..
Then, put spaghetti in pan and the cheese sauce and bacon. Stir and heat through.
Absolutely OMGOOOOOD!!! Will have some for breakfast!

From the Daily Drivel gals, I learned that when you make scrambled eggs you add in a spoonful of mayonnaise, whisk it well, and cook. Your eggs will be the creamiest ever! So, I decided on scrambled eggs and yogurt for breakfast yesterday... Instead of regular mayonnaise I used Tabasco Spicy Mayo. OMGOOOOOOD!

I topped the eggs with pepper and some Hawaiian red sea salt Jen's brother Jimmy gave me.............

What a tasty little repast!

The mayonnaise and salt can be purchased from Amazon. The Spice Lab is the brand of the salt and can be purchased from the company. Shipping with Amazon is cheaper.

I forgot to tell you yesterday that the WD-40 must be working in regards to the bear. I heard a loud noise about 2am and turned on the light and looked out. Didn't see anything. Then later in the morning I was out back and noticed the big metal trash can I keep the birdseed and cracked corn in was moved. Hmmm.............. me thinks Mr. Bear went to pick up the can and the  smell of the WD-40 made him drop it and take off! No visit from him last night!

Yesterday I recorded Ellen's show just so I could go back and watch it later and skip the stuff I wasn't interested in. She had Obummer on via Skype. This show was filmed while Moochelle was in China (February? March?) Anyway, he got a loud ovation from the audience. Must have hand picked all Dems to see the show! The White House Idiot complained that while Moochelle is in China that he "was stuck with 2 dogs at home" !!!!! STUCK?????? How can you be "stuck" with a dog when they are better than most people????? GAWD he makes me throw up!  Ok, off the

Today is Just Because Day. Finally, you have a chance to do something without a rhyme or reason. Most often in life, we do things because we have to, or we want to, or it's expected of us. None of those reasons apply today.
Is there something you'd like to do, but there isn't a reason or logic for doing it? Well, today is the day to go out and do something "just because". It is most enjoyable if it is an uncommon, or unexpected activity or action. Perhaps, you have something in mind. If not, just go with the first thing that comes to your mind.  "Just because" activities often come from a "whim" or a "what if I" type of thought. We know you will quickly get the hang of this day, and have a lot of fun with it.
To get you started, here are some of our suggestions for Just Because Day :
  • Take an unplanned day of vacation
  • Visit someone you haven't seen in a while
  • Knock on someone's door and compliment them for their great lawn
  • Skip, don't walk
  • Spin a wheel, and bicycle in the opposite direction of where the arrow points.
  • Buy something you don't need.
  • Jump in a puddle (would be nice if we HAD some rain!)
  • Walk backwards
Here is a great idea- send someone some flowers- - "just because".
