Good 60.9º very cloudy morning. Last night was the super moon and my friend Cathy (LASD ret) took this one from So. Cal... we had too many clouds to see it!

Ok, so this amusing story came from Gator in Florida (USN ret.) Thought you'd get a kick out of this, Bri!

During her physical examination, a doctor asked a middle-aged woman about her physical activity level.

The woman said she spent 3 days a week, every week in the outdoors.

"Well, yesterday afternoon was typical;

I took a five hour walk about 7 miles through some pretty rough terrain.

I waded along the edge of a lake.

I pushed my way through 2 miles of brambles.

I got sand in my shoes and my eyes. I barely avoided stepping on a snake.

I climbed several rocky hills.

I went to the bathroom behind some big trees.

I ran away from an irate mother bear and then ran away from one angry bull elk.

The mental stress of it all left me shattered.

At the end of it all I drank a scotch and three glasses of wine."

Amazed by the story, the doctor said, "You must be one hell of an outdoor woman!"

"No," the woman replied, "I'm just a really, really shitty golfer".

I went back to take a shower and saw momma deer laying in the shade in the backyard. She had her fawn with her. I tried to get photos (golf cart in way) without scaring them through the bathroom window! Momma found some leaves under the creek bridge she found tasty....

Baby had to check it out too.....

In the afternoon I went to Safeway for a few items and then to Jennifer's for a glass (or two) of wine. Sat on her porch and watched Mike barbecue. We saw the jet boats go by. She lives right on the Rogue. But, it was hot! 100º and muggy. ICK. Come on Fall!!!!!

Today is the anniversary of Patty and Cliff's son Chuck and his bride Linda. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY kids!!! 

And... today is also the birthday of the bride of Bruce (LASD ret), Gail Harris! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAIL!!!

Dinner was another one of my kooky put-togethers. First I started with a lemon cucumber martini. These cukes Jeannie grew and was not all that happy with them. They are very prickly on the skin so have to be scrubbed well and the flavor is more or less flat. I used citrus vodka and it still lacked that big cucumber punch! Oh well... gotta try!

Then for the dinner... a box of chipotle pasta salad mix (Archer Farms from Target), Costco canned chicken, canned sliced mushrooms, pigeon peas, and from Jeannie and Bill a black bell pepper, tomatoes, and a zucchini.....

Cook the pasta, let drain, cool with water, and let drain until ready to use...  In the pan goes the zucchini and bell pepper with olive oil and sauteéd until slightly browned ...

Then add in everything else and heat through....

In the pasta box is a dry chipotle spice mixture and you mix that with mayonnaise.. added that in and stirred well. Heat. Serve....

REALLY good. Loved the chipotle flavor.

A couple years back I went to a gathering with friends and brought fresh corn on the cob. I mixed a package of Lawry's Taco Seasoning with mayonnaise and we spread it on the cooked corn. Everyone loved it! Try something new besides butter!!!

Or slather on some mayonnaise and sprinkle on grated Parmesan cheese! OMG!

On this date in 1980 my nephew Dr. Joe and his bride Denise were married. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY kids!!!

Yesterday's breakfast... white cheddar rice cakes, egg salad from eggs from Nancy and Dave's chickens, and one of Bill and Jeannie's awesome tomatoes! Thanks friends!!!

And... last night's dinner was an Omaha Steak breaded veal patty, some couscous/quinoa veggie mixture I had made and frozen, and some of Jeannie's cherry tomatoes. OMGOOOOOD!!! The veal patty you can either thaw and fry in a little olive oil or bake in the oven. I chose to fry it!

Excitement was rampant yesterday. I cleaned up my desk, went through the check register, paid a couple on line bills, vacuumed, and did 3 loads of laundry. Whoop.

I saw a deer go from the side of the house to the backyard. She has a bad back leg and was limping. Sigh............ I felt so bad. Then came into the kitchen and there was another doe and a little buck in the front yard. She found one of my plants she liked and sniffed the bird feeder. 

The quail were also back again, but no pictures. They move fast!

National S'mores Day

S'mores are a favorite campsite treat for young and old kids. If you're at a campfire, chances are, there's S'mores. Sticky and gooey, and loaded with sugar and carbs, S'mores are nothing short of delicious. Who was the first person to create S'mores? We don't know. But, we're all sure glad they did!

National S'mores Day celebrates this tasty summer treat. It's appropriately observed in August...campfire prime time. Don't limit your consumption of S'mores to the campfire. They are popular with kids year round, and can be baked in the oven, or microwave.

The origin of S'mores dates back to the 1920's. It's believed the recipe was created by the Campfire Girls. Girl Scouts soon discovered it, and found it to be chocolaty delicious.  Before long, S'mores became a campfire staple for everyone. S'more folklore suggests that S'mores got its name right by the campfire. After eating one, young kids chanted "gimme some more!"

While much is written about National S'mores Day, our research has been unable to verify that this is an officially recognized national day (which requires an act of Congress). Don't let that stop you from celebrating this day with a few S'mores.

As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the party must end.

There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn't any "more."    No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat.  It seems to me that one of the important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every one of your family and friends

know that you care for them by finding simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding principles of your life so they can always say, "He was my friend, and I know where he stood."

So, just in case I'm gone tomorrow, please know this: I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic,  scientific and economic moron currently in the White House!

Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think  your neighbors have too many kids.

I have to tell you that I am totally addicted to these Manischewitz  Egg Noodles...

The other day I made another dish with them...

Roasted Garlic Alfredo Sauce (Safeway Select), dried chives, canned sliced mushrooms, diced Ortega green chiles, artichoke hearts, fake crab, tomatoes (thanks Jeannie!), some more of that broccoli/carrot/sugar snap peas stirfry veggies 

 and those noodles.....

Cook the noodles, drain, run on cold water to stop cooking. Let sit. In frying pan put the drained mushrooms, artichoke hearts, chiles, crab, tomatoes, and chives. Cook until heated through.

Add in the Alfredo sauce and some veggies. Heat through.

Add in the drained noodles, and continue to heat.

OMGOOOOOOD this was THE BEST!

So, get creative. Use leftover chicken, roast beef, steak, salmon, etc. The Alfredo sauce and those noodles do the trick!

Looked out the kitchen window and saw a baby quail and mom and dad. The baby was really quick once I stepped outside with the camera so only got mom and dad...

Good 53º clear and gonna be hot again today morning.

 

TBT a day late .. Here is my grandbabies, Jack and Alex a "couple" years ago... and today.... My babies.... so precious and cute! Gifts from God!

What kept me busy for a couple of days was a doc appointment with an ear neurologist, Dr. Lee on Wednesday. (He won't remember this but a few of you will

When he walked in I told him I was amazed he wasn't Chinese!

He laughed. He said the Asian fraternities at his university were always inviting him to join them or come to their activities. He went to school in Oklahoma and So. Carolina. Super nice. Very good looking too!

Been having some problems and nobody can figure it out! Hope this time he can!!!

Then to the Law Enforcement/Fire luncheon at the golf course. What a wonderful surprise when Jerry's former Sgt from the Biscailuz Range, Bruce Harris and his wife Gail showed up. They were traveling from up north and on their way back to Torrance, Ca and decided to surprise me! Such fun. I introduced Bruce as Jerry's Sgt at the BC Range. Bruce retorted that 'yes he was a Sgt at the range, but he 'was not Jerry's Sgt. "Nobody could be Jerry's Sgt"! LOL Here is Bruce and Gail and I in Laughlin this past April for the LASD Retirement gathering. The one I took Wednesday didn't come out good...

The fare was barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers or you could order off the menu. I opted for the salmon salad. Fresh baked salmon on lettuce with Parmesan cheese, toasted bread, and an Asian dip for the salmon. GOOOOOD!!!!

Thursday, lucky me, had a root canal. The doctor specializes in that sort of thing. It's called Endodontics. Dr. Jeffery Dryden, DDS in Grants Pass. The girls in the office were soooo nice... Kirsten, Susan, and his assistant Holly. The procedure from the first numbing of the mouth to the finish was 2 hours. Also, Dr. D is extremely good looking, so it wasn't all that bad!! (Darn, no photos of him on the internet!) Today there is no pain, just a slight pressure when I press down on that tooth. Eating on the other side! Thanks all of you! One of his gals, Linda, wasn't there. She and I had talked on the phone and her husband was raised in Temple City on Muscatel and went to TC High. She said they bought their first home behind Driftwood Dairy (Lower Azusa Rd)! When she returns from Portland she and I are going to have lunch!

Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day . Now that's nasty! But hey, what are you going to do with an endless supply of zucchini fruit?

Experienced gardener's know that Zucchini is one of the most prolific plants in all of the gardening world. A single plant produces a seemingly endless supply of Zucchini. A small row of zucchini has the potential to end world hunger.

By the time August arrives, gardeners are reaping far more zucchini than they can possibly use. They use it daily in an untold number of recipes, from soups and stews, to breads and dips. Still, the fruit matures on the vine faster than anyone can even pick it. Zucchini growers become desperate, as they try to give zucchini away to family, friends and everyone they encounter. By August, even non-gardeners have had enough. Everyone avoids you, with your arms laden with giveaway fruit.

Desperate times calls for desperate measure. It's time to sneak over, under the cover of darkness, to your neighbors porch, and unload some zucchini. Today is that day. This may solve your problem for today. But, what will you do with the harvest tomorrow!?!
