Good 61º cloudy morning.

HUMP DAY!

On Monday our babygirl, Alex (granddaughter) got her car. A 2000 silver VW. She calls it "Blueberry"...

Kristen said it was an experience for the novice driver... from Fullerton, 4 freeways, and lots of traffic to Covina, good thing she had her mom to follow!  Dropped off mom's car and picked up Jack at summer school in San Gabriel, then back to Covina! I'm exhausted just thinking about all that So. Cal traffic!

I was having a "motorcycle" discussion with friend Bob Klamm... Harley has come out with a new scoot, electric. ICK.

I showed him a picture of Jerry's 1990 Fat Boy. Which of course is now in Paris France! 

We sure had a lot of fun rides on that bike. Yesterday I was going through drawers and found his license plate.. you California LE will appreciate it! I have it by his pictures and flag presented by LASD.

Went into town yesterday... package at post office, baking soda to clean the battery terminals on the 6 batteries in the golf cart, and get more weed control mesh at Ace and some WD-40. At the market I also picked up some salad shrimp.

Dinner: carrots, green beans, asparagus, mushrooms...

Cut up a shallot...

Cut all veggies bite size and put all into large pan drizzled with olive oil.. and sprinkle on Trader Joe's 12 spice along with some crushed garlic (from a jar)...

I put it on med/low and lit it cook for about 45 minutes.

I buy the salad shrimp as it's the only one from the USofA!! The rest of the seafood is from Peru, Viet Nam, Thialand... YUCK!!!

Then I heated a smaller pan with olive oil and patted dry the shrimp and added that in, with the same seasonings. Cooked until browned slightly...

Mixed all in the large pan and plated it....

Absolutely WONDERFUL!

Late today because my tree trimming guy, Marteen was here at 8:30. Prior to that I had to lay down the weed control mesh because the guys who spray the bark will be here soon. Raining. Not a lot, but sprinkles. I did hear some thunder. I was going to mow but can't get the danged lawnmower to start! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa......................

Ha ha ha... happy morning cat! 

47º and sunny and clear out there..... Hit 87º yesterday afternoon. High clouds and windy.

90% chance of rain by tomorrow. The satellite shows a lot of clouds coming from the southwest.  Pressure had dropped a lot yesterday but at the moment coming back up.

An 8.0 earthquake hit Alaska and tsunami warnings went out for the Pacific Coast by 2:15 yesterday afternoon.

The quake struck 244 miles southeast of Abu Station. I can't find that on any map! But later news says it was large and deep under the Aleutian Islands.

Friends, Dan (ret LASD) and Judy Patz just got a rescue dog. She is a Wirehaired Dachshund. Someone tossed her in a dumpster. Imagine! Her name is Riley. (like the dog rescued from the canyon in Az.) But they have given her a full name of "Her Royal Highness Princess Riley Anne Gypsy MacDonald of Tayside, Baroness Bounce" !!!

Breakfast yesterday.... soft boiled eggs atop tomato slices and dollops of ricotta cheese. If my coffee looks red, it's because I put in some Cinnamon Red Hot syrup! (sugar free) 

In the boiling water I put Trader Joe's 21 Spice Salute (includes a blend of onion,black pepper, celery seed, cayenne pepper, parsley, basil, marjoram, bay leaf, oregano, thyme, savory, rosemary, cumin, mustard, coriander, garlic, carrot, orange peel, tomato, lemon juice, and lemon oil.)

This blend is awesome. You can put it on anything. Sells for $1.99. Get some. Use in place of all that sodium (salt).

The hummer feeders were filled the day before....

Got a lot of hungry hummingbirds out there! And boy do they buzz around my head when I go out on the porch!

I went to the market yesterday to get distilled water for the batteries (6) in my golf cart. They had some USA bay scallops .. HUGE... so I couldn't resist and bought them!

That was dinner.... First sear the scallops in a small amount of oil ..

Then I squeezed a small amount of basil paste into the oil and sprinkled the scallops with the Trader Joe's Seasonings..

 

Then when they were seared on both sides I added in some butter, lemon juice, and capers....

I served them on a bed of baby spinach with some tomatoes (natch!). OMGOOOOOD!!!!! I was full and HAPPY.

Yesterday's lunch....

A bed of baby spinach, tomatoes, avocado, sugar snap peas... a splash of lemon juice, some olive oil drizzled on, and a splash or two of pomegranate balsamic. Then drops of Trader Joe's ricotta cheese. AWESOME!!!!

Took the (new) trash can to the road. On the way back noticed a gopher snake on the road just inside the gate. He was not moving. Ran my hand down his body and he stuck out his tongue so I knew he was OK.
