Dogs vs Cats ~ Bruiser ~ Tucker Snowman Sami ~ Onion Soup

Good 13 freekin' degrees morning. Still no water. Still frozen pipes. Soooooo tired of this. Cranky. Very cranky!  I'm not going to be able to go to the Law Enforcement/Fire Christmas dinner tomorrow... with these freezing temps, driving at night, in the dark, with icy roads is not a choice. Sigh.....

Soapbox:
Honda has Michael Bolton singing in all their ads right now. I can't stand his voice... sounds like someone just kicked him in the butt! High pitched and like scratchin' on a blackboard! UGH!!!! Thank goodness for the MUTE button!

This is sooooooooo what happens here between Bruiser and Dude... sent by Ike Saben. Thanks for the smiles and laughs Ike!

Speaking of cats... here's Bruiser cruising the top of the fence and near the bird feeder in hopes of prey....

Icicles on the finch feeder...

.... and the Dude laying in the sun... 20º out there.

What a waste yesterday was, and probably today as well. No water so had to go to neighbors to fill up containers. Thank you Frank and Cindy... also, thanks for the shooter of 'Apple Pie' liquor!( http://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-apple-pie-liquor-235381 )

So tired of this. If I wanted this type of weather I'd have moved to Alaska, N. Dakota, Montana, or somewhere icky like that. Wine wine wine.... THAT's RIGHT! To heck with the wine with the 'h' in it!!!

National Lager Day

National Lager Day

Most of what we regard as American beer is what is known as lager, a cold brewed and stored beer that is light in flavor as well as color.

So.... how about Onion Soup made with lager!

1/3 cup butter
10 onions, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
12 ounces lager (can or bottle)
1 quart beef broth
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 bay leaf
6 slices French bread, toasted
3 cups shredded gruyere cheese

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir and cook onions in butter until golden brown, 15 minutes.

Stir in the garlic and cook 1 minute. Pour in the beer and beef broth and season with mustard, thyme, black pepper and the bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425º

Remove bay leaf from soup and ladle soup into a large casserole or individual ovenproof bowls, leaving about 1 inch of room at the top of the dish or dishes. Float slices of toasted bread on the soup and pile generously with Gruyere.

Bake in preheated oven 10 minutes, until cheese is lightly browned and bubbly.

2º ~ Case of Disappearing Popcorn ~ Football

Good 2º morning. Again. No thaw. Did warm to the high 20ºs yesterday and a little snow fell off the trees and I think some slid off the roof. Weird noise.

I had to bundle up, find my snow boots, and turn off the well house ... the electric panel is up behind the house between here and the well house... circle is electric panel, arrow is well house.
From there.... looking back at house....
Mike got here about 10am and did a temporary fix on the broken pipe under the porch. It was the one that goes to the faucet for the hose. Said he will return when it warms up and repair the pipe. The water has frozen up between the well house and the house, so still no water. Hope all that thaws SOON!!!

As some of you know I made a big bowl of popcorn, drizzled on melted butter, sprinkled on cheese, set it by my chair so I could enjoy it and watch football yesterday..... I had a couple bites and had to get up from the chair... when I returned Dude had that "why are you looking at me that way, mom?" look on his face...

.... and all the popcorn was gone!

One wheelbarrow full and I was done!
Then about 2 I drove down and put out the trash can on the road.
One car went by very slowly... and the road was just ice! I did pick up my mail that had been there for a couple of days. Doesn't look like I will be going anywhere soon!!! Keep your fingers crossed my water pipes thaw soon... a shower would really be nice!
This is the first time I've evre had icecicles on my house!

Football was wild yesterday... the game between the Eagles and the Lions was unbelievable... 6" of snow on the field and more coming down steadily throughout the game! My Patriots were awesome! Last minute. Sigh.......

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Most all schools closed up here... closed on Friday so the teachers and kids get at least a 4 day weekend! And as my pal PJ repeats often "globalwarmingmyass"!!! Ciao.

Broken pipe status

Mike the plumber was here. He did a "temporary" fix under the porch where the pipe broke. The well pump is running but lack of water going through pipes has them frozen so none coming to the house yet. Has warmed from 1 degree to 25 degrees. Mike will come back (he has 6 other calls) when it warms up (probably next week) and fix the broken pipe. Until then I have 3 gallon jugs of water and a 5 gallon .... we're good. Just no shower~! Watching football. Fixed popcorn to enjoy, with butter and cheese, left the room and when I came back Dude had eaten all the popcorn! Sigh.....

SNOW! ~ Leftover Turkey Crockpot Casserole

Good 28º buried in snow morning!

Looks like the storm is moving on.. south and east...

Snow snow snow!!!! It started about 7:15 here, earlier on the coast and in Grants Pass. All the school districts shut down and it was, as Jen said, "a cookie making day"! Travel was not a good thing to do. In fact, I had heard from PJ that Cliff and Patty came home from the coast, started up their steep driveway and slid down into a shallow ditch. Good thing Dave was staying at their house (keeping it warm and pipes from breaking) and he walked them up the hill. Car still at the bottom. Hope they can get it up to the house today.

Dinner was leftover turkey.... omg, so good. 2 jars Garlic Alfredo sauce, 1 can fire roasted diced tomatoes, carrots, 1 can olives, garlic, chives, mushrooms, cut up turkey, spinach fettuccini.

Cut carrots and bring to boil in salted water. Turn off heat and let stand. Saute the mushrooms. Add the Alfredo sauce to the crockpot, turn on low for 2-3 hours. Add chives and garlic.

Add the tomatoes, olives, turkey, mushrooms, and carrots to the crockpot. Cook the fettuccini in boiling salted water, drain and add to crockpot. Heat through and stir well. Keep on low or warm til serving time.

HEAVEN!

Working on Christmas projects so won't be going out in the snow. Jackson County reported 100 accidents due to  the snow yesterday. I can't even see my driveway, so will make a fire in the wood stove and stay snuggy.

All I know. Happy Saturday. Nuff said. Ciao
