Today is a humbling day. Memory kicks in to that horrible tragic morning and all the visuals on the TV. Unspeakable. I was wrapped in a blanket in front of the TV all day. It still makes me so sad to the point of being teary-eyed.

My friend Marie Vincent (former Temple City neighbor) sent the following link. With today in mind and what happened on 9-11-2001 watch this and remember...

.... and so since it was the hatred of Muslims for our country and all people who aren't of their ilk, my friend Charlean (Gottesman) Allen (LASD ret) sent me the following:

"Obama says to create harmony by learning Arabic. We might as well get on the bandwagon. The current administration wants us to learn more about Muslims and accept them into our culture. So, I'm making a sincere effort to communicate with our Muslim friends and learn Arabic for the sake of 'cultural diversity'. This is my first attempt....."

Today is the birthday of a couple of special people... my friend (former LASD SR and Choirboy) Jim Hoffman. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!! And my dental hygienist and friend, Liz O'Conner, from Bright Now Dental in Grants Pass. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ!!! See you next Monday!!

Yesterday I went to Bill and Jeannie's to celebrate her birthday. I had made her a lemon cake and filled a basket with her favorite things.. .frogs, Paydays, caramels, Bob's Seasoning Salt, and got her some car mats for her new ride with frogs on them!

Jeannie made jalapeño poppers with the jalapeños from her garden. They were SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!! We had wine and chatted. Chaka was a doll....

And when I was leaving, Jeannie gave me "poppers to go" and a cantaloupe from their garden. Will cut that today!
In the trunk of my car were some hats, I gave Jeannie one...she modeled it! Safari.......

Yesterday also, my Keurig showed up in the hands of our UPS Dave, former Dude owner.... Dave was happy to see Dude as Dude was happy to see Dave and even ate two dog cookies Dave gave him! Dude NEVER eats dog cookies! LOL.

Today I will read the directions and make coffee and/or tea...

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

September 10th
National TV Dinner Day

Gerald Thomas, a C.A. Swanson & Sons executive, had a big problem. What to do with about 270 tons of left over Thanksgiving turkey.

"After Thanksgiving, Swanson had ten refrigerated railroad cars -- each containing 520,000 pounds of unsold turkeys -- going back and forth across the country in refrigerated railroad box cars, because there was not enough storage in warehouses. We were challenged to come up with a way to get rid of the turkeys," said Thomas.

He got the breakthrough idea from the trays used for airline food service. And the TV dinner was born.

The first production order was for 5,000 dinners, thought to be a big gamble at the time. They had about two dozen women armed with ice cream scoops filling the new trays at night.

The first TV dinner featured turkey, corn bread dressing and gravy, buttered peas and sweet potatoes. It cost 98 cents and came in a box resembling a TV.

The 5,000 dinners proved to be a gross underestimation. Swanson sold 10,000,000 of them that year.

Of note, most folks didn't own freezers back then, so the dinners were bought and prepared the very same day.

A frozen fried chicken dinner was introduced in 1955. Turkey is still the most popular Swanson TV dinner, except in Fort Worth-Dallas, where fried chicken is the favorite. (Don't ask)

In 1962 they stopped calling them TV Dinners.

The other day I ordered some Mauna Loa Macadamia Nuts in a set from Amazon. There are 2 of the dry roasted, a garlic and onion, Kona coffee glazed, honey roasted, and chocolate covered. OMG! I can't decide which ones I like best!!!

Good football day yesterday!!
Scores:
Patriots 23     Bills 21 (YES!)
Cowboys 36      NY Giants 31  (YES!)
49ers 34     Packers 28
Seahawks 27    Cardinals 24
Bears 24    Bengals 21
Colts 21    Raiders 17  (YES!)
Dolphins 23     Browns 10
Jets 18    Buccaneers 17

Dude and I went to the road yesterday, I rode, he ran. He sure loves doing that. It was nice, not 70º yet.  Then I made thank you cards and some birthday cards. Melted caramels and scooped out apples to make the caramel apple treats. Well I did "somethings" wrong!  First I scooped out the apples with a mellon-baller...
... and yes that mellon-baller looks old...it was my Mom's.
Melted the caramels in the microwave. Big mistake. Too hot for too long and I thought the microwave was on fire!!!
All the AC fans went on high, ceiling fans on high, exhaust fan on high. Geeeze.......
So tried again according to the back of the caramels package... added a drop of water, microwaved lower heat and less time...
Trouble is, the caramel never got hard again! Runny. Will have to ask Laura how she did hers! Sigh.....

All I know. Happy Monday. Nuff said. Ciao.

Teddy Bear Day

This is exactly what mine looks like. Teddy is in a trunk somewhere. Given to me when I was born by my Aunt Agnes. Kept him with me all the time.

Today is Teddy Bear Day. A Teddy Bear is a special friend to children all over the world. He's cuddly. He makes you feel secure in an otherwise insecure world. He's lovable. Your Teddy Bear is both a companion and a comforter. And, he's not afraid of the dark. He'll keep you safe. Spend the day and night with your teddy bear . Cuddle up to him. Talk to him. And, do all of your favorite things together. Parents and adults: No child should grow up without a teddy bear. If you know of any kid without one, use this day to buy a teddy bear for them. As we become adults, some find it difficult to give up our teddy bears. We feel there is no reason to give him up. Some adults have their teddy bears around all their lives. Its perfectly normal....and okay.
