Photo Paint ~ Amaryllis ~ Hummus ~ Cheesy Garbanzo Bean Soup ~ Acrobatic Cat

Good 33º morning. Some clouds. Chance of rain 40%-50% until Wednesday when it increases to 70%. We'll see.....

Here is one of my photographs I "tweaked" with the new photo paint program.

I couldn't believe that I felt so good yesterday! 100% over the past 6 days. I started feeling crummy on Tuesday and the cold hit hard by Wednesday evening. Glad that's over!!!

This lovely plant is blooming in my bathroom window...

Patty gave me this Amaryllis a number of years ago when they were heading to the coast for the summer. It never fails to impress. Blooms twice a year.

Must be something about this time of year, as I looked back a year ago on my blog I was making hummus then! So, yesterday I made two batches, one flavored with pesto
and one with sweet/hot chili and siracha.
Both good! Snacked on them with raw vegetables.

Then I made some soup.
Basically I wanted to make some garbanzo bean soup, so found a recipe that sounded good. Then as I worked on it I changed my mind as to ingredients. All of the above did not go into it.

First into the crockpot 2 cartons of chicken stock, some onion, garlic, rosemary, 1 can of diced tomato, 1 can of artichoke heart quarters, and a can of drained and rinsed black beans. After an hour or so I added in three cups of garbanzo beans. I reconstituted a couple cups of dried mushrooms and cut them up and added them in....
along with about a tablespoon of sesame oil. Another hour or so I stirred in a big handful of baby spinach and a package of Bear Creek Cheesy Cheddar Broccoli soup mix.
Sold at most markets, Target, Wal-Mart, Amazon....

Bottom line....this soup was FANTASTIC!!!! It was thick and rich and cheesy and I'm havin' some for breakfast!!!

You have got to see this cat! He's on top of a basketball backboard and he gets down in a very unique way.

How To Avoid Mess ~ Puerto Rican Pup ~ Palm Sunday

Good 29º morning. Sunny yesterday but still cold. Well, more noticeable because of the cold I have!

Good advice:

I'm all for that! Feed me. Wait on me. Do the dishes!

Boy, this cold has made me cranky! Will be so glad when it's over. I was washing dishes and broke a glass .... down to the floor it went! Then I was filling the hummingbird feeders and dropped and broke one of those! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...... Fortunately I had an extra one so the hummers weren't being deprived! Brian told me to go break something else, since these things always happen in threes. HUH? Break something on purpose? Not. I'll take my chances. So far, so good....knock wood!

You have GOT to see this pup... soooooooooo funny and cute!!!
Thanks Tally (wife of Spencer Huntoon... LACO Fire ret... Wilsonite) OMG! Kristen, you have to teach your Java to do this!

Now this list threw me for a loop. Can't believe Japan isn't on here!

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The feast commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in all four canonical Gospels.
In many Christian churches, Palm Sunday is marked by the distribution of palm leaves (often tied into crosses) to the assembled worshippers. The difficulty of procuring palms for that day's ceremonies in unfavorable climates for palms led to the substitution of boughs of box, yew, willow, olive, or other native trees. The Sunday was often designated by the names of these trees, as Yew Sunday, or by the general term Branch Sunday.
According to the Gospels, Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem, and the celebrating people there lay down their cloaks in front of him, and also lay down small branches of trees. The people sang part of Psalm 118: 25–26... Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord ....
The symbolism of the donkey may refer to the Eastern tradition that it is an animal of peace, versus the horse, which is the animal of war. A king came riding upon a horse when he was bent on war and rode upon a donkey when he wanted to point out he was coming in peace. Jesus' entry to Jerusalem would thus symbolize his entry as the Prince of Peace, not as a war-waging king.

To The Point ~ Birds of Paradise ~ Rerun Corned Beef ~ Dips

Good 24º morning. A minute ago it was 23º. Wow, warming up! Pretty clouds yesterday afternoon..... we're supposed to warm way up to the 60ºs today and tomorrow.

My cold has eased up a bit. LOVE Progresso 'Lite' soup for a quick, easy, low calorie, chickeny, meal! That, and of course hot Scotch Whiskey and honey for that soothing coughing remedy! A 'warm all over' feeling too! No coughing at night, which is a blessing. The Zicam still seems to be working! Still stayin' in and keeping away from people. More soup, my chair, movies, and hot tea with lemon!

Got this from Erika... so to the point and right on all counts!

Got this link from George Bachmeier (LASD ret)..fascinating how these birds change appearance!

I think today I'll soak some dried chickpeas and make some hummus ... a couple different flavors .... good for dipping fresh vegetables! See, the cold is better and food is on my mind! LOL.

National Melba Toast Day

Named for a famous 1890s Australian opera singer and invented by noted French chef Auguste Escoffier, melba toast has been served as a snack, a dietetic food and to teething babies. While Dame Nellie Melba may not have any holidays named after her here in North America, her name lives on during National Melba Toast Day!

Cold ~ Show-off Turkey ~ Cindy ~ Painted Photos

Good 30º dark and very cloudy morning.

Yesterday... and today should be the same....

Well, I guess I came down with a DOOZY of a cold. Darn! Sneezing my head off every few minutes, 'tuffy and runny dose', coughing coughing. ICK. Wednesday night I was miserable. I only fixed hot chicken broth for dinner. That right there tells you I was sick! Yesterday I heated some Progresso Lite Chicken Noodle (Doodle!) soup for breakfast. Sat in my chair, covered with my snuggy down comforter, and watched movies! On Zicam, Vitamin C, hot tea with lemon. I HATE BEING SICK!!! Hope this is over soon. This morning still runny nose, still sneezing. BUT I think I am feeling a tad better. Staying in. Not getting near anyone. Nothing on the agenda this week or next, so hopefully I'll be back to normal. (HA HA HA... Normal?)

Yesterday this guy was out parading all by himself... not even any on-lookers!

Today is a special birthday... my dear neighbor Cindy. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CINDY!!!! I am so lucky to have such GREAT neighbors!

National Goof Off Day
(Oh good! The pressure is off!!! LOL)

Then....... there is a lot of discrepancy if it's Coc Au Vin Day or Bavarian Crepes Day or Water Day.

Never made Coc Au Vin, but I suppose I should. Sounds really good. As for crepes, there was a place in the Arcadia Mall where Jerry and I would go and have crepes all the time. They were HEAVENLY!

I suppose you could have crepes for lunch and make coc au vin for dinner all the while drinking lots of water! But then, that isn't really goofing off, is it?
