From a few days ago..

A retired deputy’s son took this video from his patrol car. The procession was more than an hour long. He was near the front of the group driving a Los Angeles County Sheriff's patrol car. Deputy MacKay was killed last week in a shootout with Christopher Dorner.

On this date 39 years ago Jerry and I went on our first date. The dinner was awesome, the date was magic, I was in love instantly! (So was he!)

Daytona was, as usual, with drama. Going that fast that close together is insane. The thing is, people go just to see the accidents! Gross. There were several of them! Congratulations to the winner, Jimmy Johnson for making it out alive!










Also big congratulations to Danica Patrick for winning the pole position and finishing in the top ten, in 8th place. Just think #9, you got beat by a GIRL! (Thank you Brian for that line!)

I could not believe some of the folks at the Oscars last night. Well, yes,I could. Hugh Jackman, charming. Bradley Cooper, cute. Charlize Theron, hair tooooo short.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jennifer Aniston wow red dress. Sandra Bullock, darling as always. Some of those super poofy dresses were STUPID~!

 

 

 

 

 

Adele, could not understand a word she said in the interview with that bloody thick Cockney accent!! Then there was Robert De Niro and his UNCOMBED hair! What a creep.

Don't know much about him, but his wife shocked me.

 

Then there was Seth McFarland.... I was truly amazed, he was awesome. My favorite all time host is Billy Crystal, but Seth comes in second. He is good looking, has a killer smile, GREAT voice, and he's funnier than all get out!!! Yeah, he made the evening good.

LOVE the song, We saw your boobs" !! And then there was Ben Afflack's acceptance speech for best picture... GEEZE LOUISE! He was talking so fast and mumbling... and it was the dumbest one I have heard. Well, except for Sally Field's "you love me, you really love me" speech. Sure glad she didn't win last night. Hollyweird's "I love me show" always leaves something to be desired to me. I am not a big 'oh look movie stars' person. At least the politics were left out until, gag, the very end with that ghetto wannabe ho, Moochelle, reading the best movie winner. GAG. Oh, did I already say that. Hollyweird just can't stay away.

How about an EASY Spanish Rice dish that you make in the crockpot?

1 cup long grain rice (uncooked)

1 cup water

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper

2 cloves garlic, minced or grated

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes (undrained)

Instructions

Spray a 4 quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Mix together all of the ingredients in the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, or until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.

The Bohemian ~ Veggies & Quinoa ~ Cooking Sauces & Coffee ~ Bruiser ~ Tortilla Chips

Good very cold 28 everything frozen morning.

Dinner the other night was veggies and Quinoa w/ sprouted rice.

Cut up the veggies, put in frying pan with olive oil and saute... sea salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook the Quinoa per directions or in a rice cooker. When done I threw in some spinach and let it sit. At Wal-Mart Friday I got some Progresso "Recipe Starters" which are basically a gravy like sauce ... Basil Parmesan, Portabello Mushroom, Three Cheese, and Garlic...

So after sauteing the veggies, I added in a can of the garlic cooking sauce, the Quinoa and rice and spinach.

Then just for good measure I added in some grated cheese....

OMGOOD!!!!

 

While I was at Wally World I also got some new coffee... Godiva Cinnamon Gingerbread Truffle.

 

Wow, it's awesome. Also got one of my favorites Dunkin' Cinnamon Spice coffee and.... I bought a container of Oregon Cafe Espresso Caramel Latte concentrate...

Yesterday I met up with pals, Joe and JoAnn (Kirk.. LASD ret) and Dee (Her hubby Dale Yellin..LASD ret) at the new Bohemian in Grants Pass. This place is fun! The interior decorations are really beatutiful. The food is exotic and eclectic ... from seared ahi tuna to hot dogs... Dale couldn't make it, as he was working, but Dee and I had 'electric margaritas...

JoAnn had the ahi tuna salad, Dee had baby clams, and I had the tuna on sticky rice with avocado. I think Joe had a beeg theek steak.... or not.

Our bartender/waiter was the one and only personable charming Tyler...

A good time was had by all and we definitely will go back. If you are in the area and interested, The Bohemian is on G Street across from Papa Johns, Blondies, and the Mediterranean.

Good morning.

I'm still blogged out and not in the mood for historical stuff or birthdays...

Although, today is Iwo Jima Day....

"Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" is a historic photograph taken on 23 February 1945 by Joe Rosenthal. It depicts five Marines and a U.S. Navy corpsman raising the flag of the United States atop Mount Suribachi. The photograph was extremely popular, being reprinted in thousands of publications. Later, it became the only photograph to win the Pulitzer Prize for Photography in the same year as its publication, and ultimately came to be regarded as one of the most significant and recognizable images of the war, and possibly the most reproduced photograph of all time. Of the six men depicted in the picture, three (Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, and Michael Strank) did not survive the battle; the three survivors (John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, and Ira Hayes) became celebrities upon the publication of the photo. For a while, it was believed that the man now known to be Block was actually Hank Hansen, but Hayes set the record straight. The picture was later used by Felix de Weldon to sculpt the Marine Corps War Memorial, located adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery.

By the morning of 23 February, Mount Suribachi was effectively cut off above ground from the rest of the island. The Marines knew that the Japanese defenders had an extensive network of below-ground defenses, and knew that in spite of its isolation above ground, the volcano was still connected to Japanese defenders via the tunnel network. They expected a fierce fight for the summit. Two four-man patrols were sent up the volcano to reconnoiter routes on the mountain's north face. Popular legend (embroidered by the press in the aftermath of the release of the famous photo) has it that the Marines fought all the way up to the summit. Although American riflemen expected an ambush, they encountered only small groups of Japanese defenders on Suribachi. The majority of the Japanese troops stayed in the tunnel network, only occasionally attacking in small groups, and were generally all killed. The patrols made it to the summit and scrambled down again, reporting the lack of enemy contact to Colonel Chandler Johnson. Johnson then called for a platoon of Marines to climb Suribachi; with them, he sent a small American flag to fly if they reached the summit. The Marines again anticipated an ambush, but they reached the top of Mount Suribachi without incident. Using a length of pipe they found among the wreckage atop the mountain, the Marines hoisted the U.S. flag over Mount Suribachi: the first foreign flag to fly on Japanese soil. A photograph of this "first flag raising" was taken by photographer Louis R. Lowery.

As the flag went up, Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal had just landed on the beach at the foot of Mount Suribachi and decided that he wanted the flag as a souvenir. Popular legend has it that Colonel Johnson wanted the flag for himself, but, in fact, he believed that the flag belonged to the 2nd Battalion 28th Marines, who had captured that section of the island. Johnson sent Sergeant Mike Strank to take a second (larger) flag up the volcano to replace the first. It was as the replacement flag went up that Rosenthal took the famous photograph "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima".

I cooked some artichokes and tried something different for the dipping sauce. I mixed some of my Franks's Red Hot sauce that I had added melted butter to for the chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday... with BF Mayonnaise. OMGOOD!!!

 

 

I know, a lot of you just go with the traditional melted butter with your artichokes, and I was raised eating them that way too, but it's like working on an assembly line..I could NEVER do that. I would go out of my mind...same old same old day after day. Another reason why law enforcement is a fun job. Nothing is ever the same. Or I know some of you cook and eat the same basic things day after day and never change or add to recipes to make them slightly different from the last time. As with dipping sauce for artichokes... be adventurous and try ranch dressing, or cheese queso dip, or Kraft chipotle mayonnaise, hummus, or mix mayo and sour cream and lemon and cracked black pepper for a great dip. If you like butter, add garlic to it. Mix mayo with capers or/and sriracha sauce or sweet/hot chili sauce. TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
