Feline Face Off ~ Hunter Bruise ~ Hollyweird R's ~ Crab Feed Preview

Good 34º foggy morning. Ugh. Dreary............... again.

I was sitting here at my computer, Maggie laying by my chair, The Bruise shows up and is looking outside when Harley comes up with "get out of my house" on his mind...

I shooed Harley away and let Bruiser out... Harley always wants a confrontation. Bruiser on the other hand wants to be friends. He really has a sweet temperment for being an outdoor feral cat all these years.....

The Bruise had been here continuously for a week. Normally it has been 3, 4 or 5 days and he's off to do whatever he does... Yesterday he showed off his hunting skills and brought this (mouse? vole? mole?) to show me ..
(first two photos taken through the screen door)

"Look what I brought you, mom!"
"Oh, yummy, my son."

.... and then yesterday afternoon he took off and is still gone. He'll be back, he always returns. I just miss him when he's gone. On the other hand, Harley nor Maggie miss him! :o)

You mean to tell me this butt-ugly, hot tempered (documented by a Secret Service friend!!!) lying (nick name "Hil Liar y")
.... is going to run for PRESIDENT in 2016?????? Oh gag me.

...and then you remember how interested she was in her job as Senator...

If the ACA (Arrogant Contemptuous Asshole) in the White House now isn't enough of a problem, then this country would put this explosive irritable volatile unreliable beeotch in the office? OMGHU!!!!

Exclusive, new video -- "The Hillary Shuffle"-- has gone "viral."

Last night's Crab Feed at the Elk's lodge was GREAT!

I have pictures but will post later. I think the lodge did well. They only have a few that are employed (chef, bartenders) and the rest of the dinner was served by volunteers. We were told they had 800 pounds of crab @ $1.99 per pound, which would be almost $1600. Then they had paid reservations of about 244 @ $25 each, which is just over $6000. They also served garlic bread, coleslaw (which was AWESOME!), and beans. Eric, the chef, told us girls what he makes his dressing with... mayonnaise (Best Foods of course!), a little white vinegar, honey, white sugar, little olive oil, and dry mustard. Going to have to work on that. Finely chopped cabbage and carrots. Yummmm.....

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.

Harley & Friends ~ Potato Chicken Casserole

Good 36º raining morning. Yesterday afternoon we had gotten 1/2" ... now it looks like we got another 1/4".

I just wanted to say I really did appreciate all of you who didn't send me emails while my power was off. Still I had over 150+ of those babies.......

The other day Patty and Cliff stopped by for some catch up and a cocktail. We had a nice visit and Harley was in heaven with Cliff's big lap "just for him".....

.... and this is a great picture of Patty!

I forgot to put on my blog yesterday, the 25th, that it was the 39th anniversary of my first date with Jerry. He took me to a seafood restaurant in East Pasadena on Foothill in the Hastings Shopping Center. It's not there anymore, but he wined and dined me.... lobster tail. OMG. I was smitten. Wish I could think of the name of that place! Brain fart!!!

Here is a good dish I thought up... I had peeled, sliced, and roasted with olive oil and some seasonings some potatoes that were getting old. I asked Jeannie if she had any ideas as to what to do with them... she suggested scalloped with ham. Didn't have any ham, never really made scalloped... so I layered them in a 9x9 dish, re-constituted some mushrooms and added them on top. Added chopped fresh tomatoes. I opened a couple cans of Kirkland chicken, added most of one can on top of the potatoes and some cheese. Repeated layer...

Then I mixed about 1/4 stick of butter with Panko crumbs, put them on top, and baked for 40 minutes at 350º. OMGOOD!

Electricity Back On ~ New Power Pole

Good 43º drizzly morning.

Yesterday the power company was to arrive, I thought early, but they had some vehicle problems and suddenly at 10:45 the electricity went off. No crew here yet. Then they showed up..... said it would take 4-5 hours to complete the setting of the new utility pole.

I enjoyed having 4 good looking men here in my yard all afternoon! LOL. The ages of my children! All very nice. Here is a collection of photos I took during the process...

Dinner I told you was tilapia over sauteéd vegetables on Tuesday night. I chopped up some leek, zucchini, cabbage, radishes (yes, they are awesomely good cooked!), and some tomato. Sauteéd with olive oil, lots of Sonoma pepper, and sea salt.

I cooked the tilapia in olive oil and dusted it with lots of pepper and some lemon pepper seasoned salt....

I made a sauce for the top with grated lemon zest, lemon pepper seasoning salt, and more pepper in BF Mayonnaise.

HEAVEN!

Today is National Peanut Butter Day and you can bet I will be spreading that glorious treat onto bread during the day for snacks.

Have a great day. Catch up tomorrow.

Rain ~ Peas Mushrooms Eggs ~ Power Company ~ Pupusas

Good 33º raining morning. Of course it's raining! I had my truck washed yesterday...

All this after I had breakfast... I sauteéd some thawed peas and some mushrooms, added 2 eggs, stirred it all up and topped it with cheese. GOOD~! Now, I know some people in my circle of family and friends who don't like peas. Don't get your shorts in a knot, just don't make this dish! No gagging sounds are allowed, Jeannie!

I posted a link re a chicken with a broken leg and it had surgery ... this is what Dom has posted since,

"Also, I went to take care of the farm this morning and Henrietta was standing on her good leg in her cage, eating bird feed like NBD. Good chicken." (NBD=no big deal)

FYI, Pacific Power guy was here yesterday to let me know the pole that has the broken cross arms and the woodpecker hole/nest will be replaced Thursday. So, I will be without power most of the day. I will lay in a supply of wood on my porch so I can keep a fire going in the wood stove. PLEASE keep me off your email lists starting this afternoon through tomorrow. Some of you send 10-15 emails at a time and it will be overwhelming. Thanks.

Costco was on the agenda yesterday. I waited until after the ice had melted for the most part. Stopped at Cash & Carry for Uncle Ben's Mexican Infused Rice (addicted to it!) for me and Jeannie. Then to Costco. Ran into Dee and Kathy there. We had a nice chat.

The food demos are always fun. I tasted "Pupusas"

which is a traditional Salvadoran dish made of thick handmade tortilla (made using masa de maiz, a flour dough used in Latin American cuisine) that was filled with cheese.

These were so good I bought some. I told Dee and Kathy about them and Dee tried them and bought some too! They are made by Del Real Foods in Mira Loma, CA. You can open them up, add other things... meat ect... or make the 'Curtido' a blend of cabbage, carrots, onions, and peppers and serve on top. Here is the recipe:

On the way home I went into Grants Pass to take Brian the requested new dog beds for Atlas. He's like Maggie and likes the beds stacked up....so he got two snuggy soft new ones. He will be a happy boy!

Brian had a present for me, a little book titled "iPad for Dummies" !!! I need that!

Got the car washed and back to the old homestead. There were two trucks at my gate. They were a "locator" company. I got out of my car and asked them why there were here. The power company guys had been here and let them in the gate. I see on the pole there is some spray painting and on the ground as well. They said they were here to locate the power lines and the phone lines. DUH...they are on the pole! I don't get that part.

If you are interested in historically stuff or birthdays for today ... go to the left and the 'archives' click on 2011, on January, and on January 22nd! Sorry... lazy this am.

Last nights dinner will be posted later... Tilapia on sauteéd vegetables with a lemon pepper sauce.

Happy Hump Day. Ciao.
