Tucker ~ 1030 Dude ~ Infused Vodka ~ My Marinara Sauce

Good 47º cloudless morning.

Breakfast was the Greek Potato Cakes topped with soft boiled eggs.... OMGOOD~!

I posted this last year, but it's funny so here it is again:

From Dan in Texas:
A recent study found that the average American
walks about 900 miles a year.
Another study found that the average American
drinks about 22 gallons of alcohol a year.
That means the average American gets about
41 miles to a gallon! Makes you damned proud to
be an American.

Two ultra super people are celebrating birthdays today...
first one is my grandson, Tucker. Tucker turned 8 years old today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TUCKER! See you later!!! xoxo

And number two is dear friend, Jerry's partner, Steve Voors, 10-30 Dude! HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE!!!!

Riggs was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1988. He founded the Bobby Riggs Tennis Museum Foundation to increase awareness of the disease. Riggs died of cancer October 25, 1995, in Encinitas, California, aged 77.

In his final days, Riggs maintained friendly contact with Billie Jean King, and King phoned him often. She called him shortly before his death, offering to visit him, but he did not want her to see him in his condition. She phoned him one last time, the night before his death and, according to Billie Jean herself in an HBO documentary about her, the last thing she told Riggs was "I love you." Yesterday was kitchen projects day. First, JoAnn had given me a bag of pears. So I cut them up and cored them and put them in jars and filled the jars with vodka. They will sit and infuse for about 2 weeks. At the end of a week I will add a cinnamon stick to a couple of the jars. Will give them a taste test and let you know...

Then I dove into the 10 pounds of tomatoes Jeannie and Bill gave me... cored, cut, cooked, strained, and added basil, onion, garlic, loads of mushrooms, and a couple cups (comes in little boxes) of Cucina & Amore

super yummy 'made in Italy' with Greek Kalamata olives, Italian green olives, capers, and parsley marinara sauce.. just for added flavor ... and canned the sauce.....

All I know. Happy Thursday. Gotta wrap Tucker's birthday presents! Ciao.

ENT ~ The Mediterranean Gang ~ Talk Like A Pirate

Good 49º morning.

Yesterday was busy, trip to the vet with Maggs and then an appointment in the afternoon with my ENT Dr. Reeck in Medford.

Jay Reeck, MD
Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgeon; Otolaryngology
Super neat guy, nice, fun to talk to. This seems to be where the only ENT doctors are in the region. Patients come from No. California, Nevada, and Central Oregon.

After all those weird tests (hot and cold air blown into my ears and photos of my eyeballs.....) he said there is absolutely nothing wrong with my ears... equilibrium... or balance center in my brain. See.... every test comes back 10-4!!! Sigh.

Ok, so that over I headed to The Mediterranean in Grants Pass and hooked up with Dee&Dale, Joe&JoAnn, Jeannie&Bill. Retsina, martinis, chardonnay, & champagne were the drinks. We indoctrinated our new server, Carson. He is very nice and makes a great martini!

Jeannie had the appetizer with pita and garlic bread..Babaganoush, creamy feta, and olive tepenade.

Bill had the Caesar Salad with seared Ahi ....

And I had my standby and favorite .... Moussaka with Potato Cakes..
I got extra potato cakes so I could have a couple for breakfast with eggs on top! Sooooooo good!

Here is the whole motley crew. We got together because Joe and JoAnn were over here from Depoe Bay for her dad's birthday....

Dining with Doug at 38 Central ~ Cheeseburger Day

Good 48º little tiny clouds morning.

Maggie and I headed out early to the vets for her suture removal...
Let's hope that is the end of surgeries for my girl!

Today is 9-18.... a radio code for 'insane person'. 417 and 918 is a dangerous combination. But, that describes a lot of my friends! LOL. A few ago it was 9:18 on 9-18.

Yesterday I met Nancy and PJ at PJ's and we drove to Medford. We arrived at '38 Central' and had a glass of wine. Jeannie and Bill got there and then Larraine and her daughters. This was a fund raiser for 'Doug Breidenthal for Commissioner'. We were all seated at the only table for 8. So, here we were, Bill and seven women!

L-R Larraine, Denise, Debbie, PJ, Nancy, me, Jeannie, and of course... Bill! (he looks miffed, but he really did enjoy the meal! and...he got home in time to see the Monday Night Football!)

Doug arrived but his wife was working til about 8pm. Darn.

His campaign manager, Laura, was there. So nice. Glad I got to finally meet her!

And I got to visit a bit with old friends, Jan and Sal Esquivel. Sal serves in the Oregon House of Representatives for District 6, which is Medford. Jan is past President of JCRW.

Dinner was WONDERFUL! Salad of fresh mixed greens, salmon was on a bed of tri color orzo with a lemon sauce and spinach, and dessert was 'flourless' chocolate cake with raspberry sauce! OMGood!
Denise and Bill had the tri tip which they both said was really good. I will go back to this place! AND... I heard their 'mac & cheese' is awesome! I met Dave, the owner, nice guy~!

The restaurant, serving lunch and dinner, is at 6th and Central. If you park in the structure on 6th Street you can enter the restaurant from the first floor of the parking structure.

National Cheeseburger Day
(In-N-Out ... be still my heart!)

... Hmmm... how about a Greek Cheeseburger....

These burgers are deliciously seasoned with oregano, onion and garlic. They're topped with crumbled feta cheese and fresh baby spinach for even greater flavor. That and a glass of retsina... HEAVEN!

(Retsina is a unique wine product made almost exclusively in Greece. It is made with a base of white or rosé wine that is flavored with pine resin. The wine is quite pungent, and not to everyone's taste. However, the Greeks have been making and drinking it for over three thousand years, and people often find it more enjoyable when it is paired with Greek foods. Retsina also varies widely in quality, and an inferior product can taste suspiciously like turpentine. Consulting the staff at a Greek wine store may be the best way to find a good wine.

The name for retsina is derived from a Latin word, resina. The official explanation for the drink has it roots in early wine making practices. Lacking airtight containers for fermentation, many early white wines soured as a result of exposure to oxygen. To stave off this problem, wine makers covered their wine jugs in pine pitch, the same material used to waterproof boats. The pitch effectively sealed the containers so that the wine did not spoil, and consumers developed a taste for the resulting resinous wine.)

9-18 (Insane person!)

Sorry, blog will be late today. Off his am to have Maggie's sutures removed.
