My neighbor Gerard called me yesterday morning. He wanted to make sure I saw the elk heard out in the pasture. I had seen it and taken pictures. They hung around late, usually at first light they are gone.It was 10am and they were slowly making their way up towards my pond and the forest.
I asked him about Shiloh. He said, "She's not here anymore". WHAT????? Where is she???? They gave her back to the people they got her from. These people said if she didn't work out they'd take her back. They have 8 acres and two other dogs. She will be
happier, but I'm sad I won't see her anymore. Baby girl. So sweet!
Gerard said she was too much of a nuisance. Sigh..... I miss her.
The summit was a mess .... snow everywhere and of course chains required... Even the California side was a mess... (see first picture)
PatC's sister called her from Redding asking about the roads.
I understand the weather cleared up and she got over the mountain without having to put chains on.
So, decided to do some kitchen stuff yesterday. I took the drippings and gelatin from the bottom of the crockpot from cooking a chicken and made gravy. I heated the leavings, added flour, cooked it down, added 2% milk and citrus rosemary gray sea salt (thank you Lydia!) and McCormick's roasted garlic and bell pepper blend, Sonoma pepper, and Bob's Seasoning Salt. Mmmm mmmm mmm. Good!
Then I infused some olive oil with dried reconstituted sliced garlic and onion. Put garlic and onion in a cup with hot water until it plumps. Drain and dry with paper towels. Heat oil to 100º and remove from stove, add garlic and onion. Let sit to room temp and pour into bottle. So good on EVERYTHING!
Never never use fresh garlic.
Botulism will form.

Swallows Return to San Juan Capistrano Day
This Saturday the Fiesta de las Golondrinas and Mercado will be held in the City of San Juan Capistrano to celebrate the return of the swallows to the Mission San Juan Capistrano. Traditionally, the swallows arrive on St. Joseph’s Day (March 19), after spending the winter 7500 miles away in Argentina.
