Here is the link to the card Jake sent Maggie....

Good morning/afternoon.  45º at 8:30am and raining.
1/3" since yesterday afternoon.
This morning we had an inch. We'll see what this storm that
is raging now (4pm Tuesday afternoon) has to show....

9am... UPS just confirmed the delivery of my modem will be sometime today. Sigh....4 days without internet makes for a cranky Sue!

Ok, so Dave my UPS guy delivered the modem at noon. Thank goodness! All that "overnight" crap was just that... crap. It wasn't even picked up by UPS until Monday in Bolder Colorado so it was "overnight" from then! Sigh......  I gave Dave a "Eat Drink be Irish" button to wear on St. Patty's Day, Thursday. I'm sure everyone on his route will want to pinch him thinking he has no green on, just UPS brown! HA! He will be wearin' green. Besides he's Irish!

Maggie and I have been snacking on a chicken I cooked last night in the crockpot. It's so juicy and tender. Making some gravy now to go on chicken and some biscuits. We did go to town yesterday, after Shiloh's 'mom' came and got her! Interestingly enough, she hasn't showed up today! I keep looking. In town I bought the chicken and some peppermint coffee creamer to go in my Harry and David 'Moose Munch and Peanut Butter' flavored coffee. OH MY, good!!!!

I received a card in the mail from Linda down in Woodland...

inside it says..."Sometimes I just sit and ponder
on how you're doin' way off yonder." Put a smile
on this old face!!! Thanks Linda!

Brian and Jen's power was off from Sunday afternoon until 7pm Monday night. In Riverside Park in Grants Pass the wind knocked down 4 over 100' tall trees. One crashed through the gazebo where a birthday party was going on at the time. Nobody was hurt, thankfully. Here are a few pictures of local damage...

When the ground is a soaked as it is then the 35-55mph
gusts of wind come along.... 'stuff' happens. 7 homes were destroyed in Grants Pass. I hope Brian didn't have the insurance
on them!!!! (smile)

So, the rains have come down hard and easy. The turkeys stood
out in the front yard most of the day. Sometimes the smart ones
would get under the trampoline. It's windy and cold. More rain on the way. Gotta go get some wood so we can have a fire.

Happy Tuesday, what is left of it!
Nuff said. Ciao.

~ 3-14 ~ Geese Ducks ~ Sami's Birthday Party ~ Shiloh .. yet again. ~

Good 36º morning.  Yesterday we got .64" of rain. Most of it in about an hour. This morning it's foggy. More rain expected through the week and we were told upwards to 8" of rain will fall.
Today is day 3 without internet for me. The phone company said they would "overnight" my modem. Well, it never came yesterday! So I wait.
The second pair of geese and the one single goose have returned now, making 5 total. And Mr. and Mrs. Mallard are here too....
Four in the pasture and one on the barn roof.
Opened the gate early yesterday in anticipation of the modem arriving. Noticed one of the hinges is broken. Swell. One more thing. Waited until 12:30 to leave for Sami's birthday party at her other grandmother's house. Got to the gate and there was Shiloh! Couldn't leave her, as she would follow me and get hit by a car on the road! So, in the car she goes. Muddy feet and all.
Took her home and was upset with Gerard and Maria. They both acted like.... 'sigh, this is a nuisance'. YES IT IS! I explained again about the collar and the perimeter wire. "But we have 20 acres." No dummy, you don't wire the entire 20 acres, just an area you want to contain Shiloh in.. include the patio so she can get in the shade, etc. "What do we do when we want to take her for a walk?" TAKE OFF THE COLLAR DUMMY! Oh boy, I was upset.
Sami's party was so fun. Jen and Jean had decorated for a Princess Party! All the little girls in fancy princess dresses and Sami was the prettiest!

Jen had all kinds of crafts for
the kids to make and games to play .. and Jean and Jen
made lot of food.... mini taquitos, chicken/cheese casserole,
meatballs, and had guacamole, salsa, and chips.
And then the rain thunder and lightening came! Lights
flickered. LOOK AT THE RAIN COMING DOWN!
The party went on..
I came home, the back way since trees were down and
lines across the roadway. In Rogue River all the power
was off and all the businesses closed. I couldn't get a
few things I needed at the market. Trees uprooted
and lots of branches on the road! Everything ok here.
Power was on but there was some wind damage on
my porch...
Made a fire. We got snuggy. The storm really bothered
Maggie so she stayed close. Over 74,000 residences
without power in Jackson and Josephine Counties. How
lucky are we!!
Historically....
1900 – The Gold Standard Act is ratified, placing United States currency on the gold standard

3-13 Finally ~ Shiloh .. again ~ Quinoa and V-8 Biscuits ~

Good morning. 42º  when I got up. Whaaa? Daylight Savings Time and we get a heat wave??? Silly. Now hard to get used to no light when I wake up. I changed all my clocks about 5pm yesterday. Yeah. I like the ones that change automatically.

Yesterday morning at 9:15 Shiloh was back down here! Grrrrr... Poor pup. I called her 'parents' and had to leave a message as no one picked up. Then about 10 minutes later I saw their car leave! They leave and don't even know where their dog is! Majorly pisses me off! So, I called back and said just that, "I saw your car leave and you didn't even know where Shiloh was!"

Maggie and Shiloh both sat on the porch 'watching'.  I let her in. Since Maggie won't eat any of her treats because of her meds Shiloh found a pig ear and was happy happy happy! She held onto it. I told her it was "OK" so she lay down on Maggie's bed in the kitchen (I was cooking) and just kept it in her mouth as if someone would take it away.

So cute. She did relax and set it down and napped a bit.
Finally her 'dad' showed up. He's a very pleasant guy, the wife on the other hand is cold as a well digger's shovel! No emotion. He said, "Well, I whistled for her and she didn't show up so we left." Fine, let the poor thing get eaten by coyotes! Anyway, I told him about his sweet dog, put the pig's ear in a zip lock bag, and off they went. I also explained to him about the
collar and buried line that dog's won't cross. Adelle said in the
south everyone has open yards and they all have those buried
wires and collars so when the dog approaches the wire it signals
the collar and they won't cross the line. I told him they either
get that or put a fence around the yard! Their property is fenced, but it's 20 acres also and there must be places she is digging under.

(P.S. I have no idea why this site changes the size of my font! Grrrr)

Cooking today was an experiment.... 1 cup of Quinoa cooked with 1 can of diced tomatoes with lime and about 4 ounces of V-8 juice.

Now this would be good just by itself for a side.
Sauteéd shallot. Mixed up rinsed garbanzo beans, black eyed peas, baked beans, black olives, canned sliced mushrooms, diced green chilies, chopped pecans, cooked wild rice, and added the Quinoa and the shallot and a big handful of grape tomatoes.

I made a light dressing of mayonnaise, olive oil, and lemon
juice. Added my spices... onion sea salt, rosemary/garlic (grinder), Sonoma pepper, and some McCormick's Szechuan Style Pepper Blend. (Good)

Then... I made some of the best and simpliest biscuits ever!
2 ¼ cups Bisquick and 2/3 cup Spicy V-9 Juice. Mix well and drop by spoonful onto cookie sheet. They are light and fluffy and really
good!!

A great little meal and good for me!

Then at 2:15 Shiloh was back. Called Maria and she said, "You are just going to have to keep her and I'll call when I want to see her."
LOL Right.  They came down in about half an hour. She just wants to run away. Sigh....

This is late because my internet went away yesterday. I called Qwest and then ran a test on my modem and said it was 'fried'. So they sent me one overnight. No internet all day yesterday from about 8am and then of course this morning. Frustrating.
