~ Sushi ~ Pesto and Cream Cheese ~ Baked Alaska ~

Good 37º foggy first day of February morning.

Yesterday that darned squirrel showed up again but I did my best to ignore it. I did get all my cookbooks moved to shelving and am sorting through all my cooking magazines. Claire, bless her heart, said she's interested in them! Yeah. So, as soon as I peruse most of them Claire
will have a cooking magazine day.

Sun finally came out 3-ish... but most of the day was like this...

PJ came up and dropped off "Sushi". No, not food,
but her pet Beta fish.... I will babysit him until their return
from Quartzsite...
For now he has a new home in my kitchen window...

Maggs and I went to town to the post office and market.
Came home to this sunny view of the old homestead...

Maggie was saying, "why are you stopping,
I need my dinner.."

Since yesterday was Brandy Alexander day,
I made one.. never had one before..
1 1/2 oz brandy - 1 oz cream de cacao -
1 oz 1/2 & 1/2 - nutmeg to garnish...

Pretty good, but an after dinner drink for sure.
Sweet.

Then I made a recipe Claire shared with chicken,
tomatoes (I used canned, not fresh), I added sliced
garlic, onion (instead of shallot), pesto, cream cheese,
pasta, mozzarella cheese (I used fresh cheese balls sliced).
Quite tasty!!!

Sorry, Claire, I modified the recipe to fit what
was in my fridge and pantry.

Ok, so today I'm keeping the squirrel at bay and getting the bills paid and the check book reconciled. Really! Will run to town later, as there is a package at the PO for me that I didn't find out about until I came home yesterday at 4:30! Mail is really late here sometimes.
All I know. Nuff said. Ciao.

~ Bisbee and Tombstone ~ Squirrel? ~ Brandy Alexander ~

Good 34º foggy morning.
Wow, the last day of January.

85 years ago today Leslie and Margaret
eloped from Bisbee Arizona

to Tombstone Arizona

and were married.
19 years later Susan Leslie was born. Taaa daaa.....
(the picture is the court house where they got their
marriage license)

Not much to say about yesterday... I had that ADHD thing going on... cleaned out one cupboard, oh look... here's something in this one that needs to be tossed out... oh wait, here in my bedroom I need to clean out this closet.... but wait, there's a squirrel! Sigh. I did get quite a bit done and more for the Goodwill.

We didn't really get any sun yesterday.
Looked like this at noon....

And they by 5pm we had a semi-pretty sunset....

Dinner, a fire, TV.

The Pro Bowl was strange to say the least. The NFC defeated the AFC 55-41. Gotta say, the AFC gave it an awesome try to come back from 41-zip.

Need to clean out the wood stove. Need to
cook something! And there are a dozen other

~ Rain! ~ Woodpeckers ~ Baron ~ Inane Answering Machine Messages

Good 39º morning. Rained last night. About 1/5". Started around 8pm. Can you believe it, tomorrow is the LAST day of January!!! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaa..............

First my mountain was visible....

Then it disappeared .....

Now it's somewhat back......

And the red-headed kids were out there....

Yesterday I headed to Grants Pass to visit with Bob and Candy. I stopped at Ace to pick up some fire starter and saw they had back scratchers. I picked up one for Bob. His surgery was on his right shoulder, so it makes it difficult to do many things. I think he really enjoyed the back scratcher!

Before I got to their house I stopped at the drive-thru carwash. My truck was a mud ball!

Ahhhhh.... mucho better!

We sat and visited for a couple of hours and had wine.... I really enjoyed our chat! Several LASD stories, which are always fun. I LOVE their dog, a Brittany Spaniel, Baron. He is a sweetheart!

He loves chasing that ball!
He even climbed up and snoozed
on my lap! Awwww.... he liked me!

The view from their hilltop house is really spectacular....

Came home and it was already dark and I hadn't stacked any wood on the porch, so Maggie and I, me with a big light, filled the wheelbarrow with wood and stacked it on the porch. We had a great fire, reruns of the butternut pasta for dinner, and watched some TV and snoozed in my chair. Today is pay bills day and organize tax stuff. Groan.................... (Oh, and Candy, I'll send you the picture of Bob and Baron, came out darling! and the recipes for onion soup.)

Historically this date....
1835 – In the first assassination attempt against a President of the United States, Richard Lawrence attempts to shoot president Andrew Jackson, but fails and is subdued by a crowd, including several congressmen.
1847 – Yerba Buena, California is renamed San Francisco.
... a wise decision, since "yerba buena" means "good grass"... I think they
smoke enough of that stuff in SF, but to have it named that.......    !
1969The Beatles' last public performance, on the roof of Apple Records in London. The impromptu concert is broken up by the police.
1971Carole King's Tapestry album is released, it would become the longest charting album by a female solo artist and sell 24 million copies worldwide.
1994 - my mother Margaret Laney passed away from the ravages of Alzheimers.
Sooooooo many things I'd like to tell her and show her. I miss her so much.

And births this date include.....
