My Mountain ~ Osprey ~ Jack & Gabrielino Eagle Marching Regiment ~ Deactivate A Cat ~ Guerin ~ Ashley ~ Soapbox ~ Crab Salad ~ Leap Day

Good 30º clear frozen Leap Day morning!

Yesterday the sun came out for a few about 10am. Then hid again. Stayed cold and windy. Patty wrote from the coast it was raining over there, so Dude did his run, I drove the golf cart, and we took the trash to the road before the rain. Rain started at 12:30. Then it stopped and we had sun for a bit. Then it went away again.

Remember the osprey nest? Well in case you have never seen an osprey...
It is close to a bald eagle and also called a Sea Hawk.

Kristen sent me a DVD of Jack's Gabrielino Eagle Marching Regiment. Jack is a drummer..... In the video he is on the right in the back with the 'marching quads'! He is awesome!

Sorry, fuzzy, took it off my computer screen.

A 29 second video on 'how to deactivate a cat' from pal Mike Cippola. Thanks Mike. Wonder if the Bruise would hold still!

It was another exciting day.... organized paperwork and laundry.

On a sad note, friends Tammy and Gary lost their young son Guerin on the 18th. Tammy and Gary are the ones who adopted the 'found' black lab, Mr. Big Stuff, who is now Sideways. They found Guerin, passed away, at home. No word on the cause yet. Heartbreaking for them!!! RIP Guerin.
On his birthday December 18th. ^

And I am also sad for the family and friends of the Virginia policewoman killed on her first day on the job! Ashley Guindon was sworn in on the Prince William County Police Department on the 27th and killed by gunshot on the 28th. She had worked for the department before, left for a time, and came back. She is the 10th police officer killed this past month in the Good Old USofA!!!
                                                  RIP Ashley.

As far as the Oscars go. What trash that Chris Rock is! He said he was "presenting the white people's choice awards" !! The show was all about racial ..... It was all about political left wing liberals.  I watched a bit, sped through, watched another bit and was just about sick to my stomach. CRAP is all it was.

Later dinner was the chopped crab salad I got on Saturday from Taprock. Crab, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, romaine lettuce, olives, and I added some tomato (because it's a fav)

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

Leap Day

Leap Day is every fours years....almost. It's every four years except years ending with "00" that are not divisible by 400. The year in which Leap Day occurs, is called a Leap Year.

Why the fancy calculation? The earth rotates around the sun once every 365 and about 1/4 days. So, by adding an extra day every four years, we get mighty close to keeping the calendar consistent with the earth's annual trip around the sun. And to be very precise, the earth orbits the sun every 365.242190 days. So, on years ending in "00", (except those not divisible by 400) we skip Leap Year and Leap Day. With all that fancy calculating out of the way, let's just celebrate the day.

Did you know? There are occasional "Leap Seconds". We will spare you the detail on those, except to say it helps to correct minor variations. On December 31, 2015, the folks who maintain the official time for the planet, will add an extra second to the day!

If your birthday is on Leap  Day, congratulations, you finally get to celebrate your birthday on your birth date. Just how many of us are celebrating our Birthday on Leap Day? Only about one in 1461 people. If you were born on this day, consider yourself very, very special.  If my birthday had been on Leap Day I'd be all of 19 now!!!!

Weather ~ Blackberry BBQ Sauce ~ Healthy Salad ~ Oregon Outpost ~ Osprey Platform ~ Taprock Dinners ~ Chocolate Soufflé

Good 41º cloudy morning.
The predictions through Wednesday:

And the current radar:

Yesterday, excitement prevailed. Paid bills. Whoooop! Vacuumed. Whoooop! The sun came and went and by noon it was gone again and cloudy. Warmed to 58º.

Breakfast was cooked yam, plain Greek yogurt, blueberries, and honey. Oh, and some of Grandpa Graham's BBQ sauce on the yam. OMGOODNESS, it was GOOD!!!

Lunch was cucumber, tomato, avocado, fresh lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper.

This avocado seed was the oddest I had ever seen.

Chopped all, squeezed on the fresh lemon, drizzled on the olive oil, sprinkled salt and pepper.
SUPER good!!!! Healthy too! :o)

I communicated with the maker of the Grandpa Graham's Blackberry BBQ Sauces, Mike, and he said other than in Rogue River at Ace, it can be bought in Grants Pass at Oregon Outpost at 5th and G Streets, on the corner. They carry gourmet sauces.
137 SW G St

I had never been in there before yesterday. The owner said she's been there 18 years. OMGOODNESS, they have so many good things in that store!!!! I will go back and SHOP! From sauces, to jams/jellies, pickles of every kind imaginable (peppers, asparagus, eggs), and just so many drool starting items.

Yesterday afternoon I ran errands prior to going to Grants Pass... deposit at the bank ATM, mail some cards, take picture of the new osprey nest platform..

The osprey nest that was atop a power pole and power lines was moved and a permanent platform was installed 6-8 feet above the power pole which will allow the osprey to come and go from the nest while keeping them away from the power lines.

Next I went to Gtanos to give a bottle of the Blackberry BBQ sauce to Juan Carlos and Lily to try. Dang, I missed Juan Carlos by about 2 minutes, as he had left to take his kids home.  Surprise .... Jennifer and Mike were in there eating! I sat with them and had a glass of wine. Micol and Bob came in to eat with them.

I left there to go to The Vine to take a bottle of the BBQ sauce to them to try with the meat they will be smoking. Dang again, I missed Dustin and Ashley by a minute or so also, as they had just left but would be back in 15-20 minutes. I left the sauce with one of the girls there, explaining about it.

I had purchased 2 $20 gift certificates for $10 each for Taprock, not reading the fine line, they had to be used for "dinner" after 4pm. Also, they expired today. So, next I headed to Taprock.  I decided I didn't want to eat alone (Brian and family had gone to Eugene for one of Sami's gymnastic meets) so I ordered a glass of wine and waited for my meal to go...
The view from the window where I sat... the northbound 7th St bridge over the Rogue River....

And the sunset over Caveman Bridge as I was leaving..

I ordered two meals:
Oysters & Chips... crisp hand-breaded and deep fried Washington oysters with Northwest slaw and tarter sauce and lemon.
And:
Dungeness Crab BLT Chopped Salad
"A mound of tasty Dungeness crab sits atop fresh chopped romaine with bacon, tomatoes, avocado, olives, hard-boiled egg, and house-made seafood dressing."
And a piece of cheesecake.

Fog/Rain ~ Crazy Bruiser ~ Gtanos/Blondies/Bohemian ~ Grandpa Graham's Blackberry BBQ Sauce ~ Kahlua Cake

Good 40º foggy morning.

Yesterday the sun did come out for a bit, but by 9:30am it was gone behind dark clouds. By 10am we were getting rain. It drizzled on and off all day. We ended up with 1/4".

In the morning a usual is Bruiser and Dude go out for their morning 'thing'. Then they come back in while I finish my blog. Bruiser is the wild child and loves running madly through the house and jumping up on the hutch and seeing what he can knock off! I keep a spray bottle close and spray him, and he gets down. But he will do it again and again. So, finally tired of his game I took everything off the hutch.. photos and a few nicknacks (or knicknacks, however you spell it) So, what does he do? He gets up there and just looks around! (All the pictures are sitting on the dining room table)

Lunch with the 'girls', Nancy, Jennifer, and Micol, at Gtanos, or so we thought...

I LOVE their food, South American, and their Peruvian Margaritas are the BEST. They make fresh guacamolé at your table. BUT............. their FB page said they are open at 11. NOT. They don't open til 3pm! DANG. Micol got there and so we went next door to Blondies. Nancy and Jennifer showed up. We sat there being ignored...

Got irritated and left. We went across the street to The Bohemian. Apparently the girls liked what they had, but I didn't like my Chicken Thai Lettuce Wraps. Too little, too late!
Anyway, the wine was good! And we jibber jabbered away...
           Jennifer, me, Nancy, Micol....      xoxox

I had a back therapy appointment in RR so left for that. Ahhhhh....... Stacy and her magic hands!!! Then to ACE to buy some of Grandpa Graham's Blackberry BBQ Sauce. It's made in Grants Pass. I got the Hickory Smoke, but they have other flavors.... regular & chipotle. It tastes GREAT. Berry BBQ sauce was featured on Dr. Oz recently.

I will find out where else this is sold and let you know.
