Weather ~ Bruiser 4 Years Ago ~ West Coast Earthquakes ~ Sugar Fox/Keeper/Heaven/Bridey/Winey Me ~ Muslim Judge ~ Reruns ~ Champagne

Good 31ยบ foggy morning.
Looks like it will be a sunny day for a couple! YES!!!

And clear weather for the Ball Drop in New York as well as for the Rose Parade in Pasadena!

Can you believe it... the last day of 2015!
I took this picture 4 years ago this date...
At one point the rain started coming down really hard and I saw the feral kitty run like mad towards the barn and the opening under one stall to get out of the rain. Then a little later the rain subsided and out came kitty .... on the hunt...

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirv2ouGonvCEpgFZdyULWPLVceVvNmXfr7lJJ7CEs9Jjm8fEeiqCpFUdWkE86eCUSASd7cZae9yJRCVyFYK0ViiyiwcDoENm5shzxvvV8h3vFtEyZ4vV_WhdvHNuinnyABI7zDj52dY7M/s1600/IMG_5078aMA28916071-0007.jpg
That was one of the first times I saw Bruiser. Took a bit until he came close, food helped. Then suddenly one day he walked up to me, laid on his back, and wanted his tummy rubbed! Now he "owns" me! LOL

PICTURE OF THE DAY (Thanks Dave Clark ... LASD ret):
"Marilyn hasn't aged well"

It's amazing the number of "minor" earthquakes that have been hitting all over the world, a lot of them in Chile and bunches in Californa. Seems like every other day there is news of a 4.o or smaller or slightly larger quake. Yesterday morning it was a 2.8 in San Bernardino County and then just before 6pm it was a 4.4 near Devore. Pals in Diamond Bar felt it. The 23rd it was a 2.9 by Newport Beach. San Ramon a 3.6 in November. 4.0 in Big Bear in September. 4.0 in Piedmont in August. 4.2 in Fontana in July. 4.2 in Springfield Oregon in July. 3.2 in Gardena in June.

Yesterday I took a drive out to Jennifer's house. I had promised her some of my turkey soup. She and Mike and I chatted, played with the dogs, and had wine...

I received this information from Ron Wisberger (LASD ret) and to verify did some looking on my own. Found this article from the NY Daily News about a Muslim Judge in Brooklyn sworn in using the Koran instead of swearing in with a Bible! What next?
Yep. Un huh!

The sky on the drive home from Jennifer's was really pretty with patches of blue and colorful clouds..

Dinner was the rest of the leftover mashed yams/potatoes/and artichoke hearts made into patties and sauteรฉd in olive oil along with some broccoli/carrots/cauliflower....

DELISH!!!!

Then chair, snuggy warm blanket, wine, the news, and Blue Bloods.
Tonight the ball will drop in NY at 9pm our time. I'll stay awake that long!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.

National Champagne Day
(As my Darling would pronounce it... "Sham - Pag - Nee"!)

The rule of thumb: If it’s imported from France and it says Champagne, it’s Champagne. Otherwise, it’s another type of sparkling wine. Champagne can only be made in Champagne region of France.
Champagne varies in sweetnessThe sweetness of the dosage that is added before corking creates the level of sweetness (or dryness) of a Champagne. The wordbrut on the label means dry. Brut, Extra Brut and Brut Nature (little or no dosage) are the driest styles. Sweet Champagnes are hard to find, but they can be identified by the words Extra Sec (Extra Dry) Sec, Demi Sec and Doux. They go well not just with dessert, but with courses like foie gras that are traditionally paired with sweeter wines. By the same token, a very dry Champagne is not a good match for a sweet dessert. It would pair with anything a dry white wine would go with.
Champagne house styles vary. One house’s Brut can be another house’s Extra Dry. Each has its own blending recipes, so the best way to discover a style you like is to taste various brands.

I have some in the fridge... will break it out at 9pm!!!

Snow ~ Fawn Rescue ~ My Famous Green Tomato Pickles ~ Gabe Ramirez ~ Dan Cermak ~ Mike & Wilma Nelson ~ Bicarb of Soda

Good 34ยบ drizzling morning. About 1/4" since last evening. Started raining and then by 8:30 it had turned to snowflakes. Not a lot stuck as it warmed ...

Here is a GREAT story.. a man rescues a baby deer and returns it to it's mother!

Yesterday there were so many things I wanted to get done, but alas... not that much accomplished. Sigh...

Brian had asked me last week for some of my pickled green tomatoes. He said Ashley and Dustin, who own The Vine in Grants Pass, wanted to try them after Brian told them about my recipe. Actually it originally came from my Uncle Lloyd Mills. I 'tweaked' the recipe, as I normally do. I like lots of garlic and some jalapeรฑo in with them. You don't water bath them, so they stay crunchy. Brian said they tried a martini with the tomatoes and brine but LOVED a Bloody Mary with them. This may become their signature drink. I sent them the recipe. I may get together with them for a lesson in canning.

HUH? She's insane!

Special birthdays today... Gabe Ramirez (LASD ret) HAPPY BIRTHDAY GABE!
With his wife Ann (also LASD ret)

Here's Dan leading the line dance and the guys all wearing their team's helmet! Front to back Dan, Tall Paul, Biff, Jeb, and Brad. Lookin' good guys!

And Mike Nelson (LASD ret..worked Temple with Jerry) and his bride Wilma are celebrating their anniversary today. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY kids!

December 30th
National Bicarbonate of Soda Day

or Baking Soda Day, celebrates the many benefits and uses of Bicarbonate of Soda.

Just how does Baking Soda work and what, specifically, does it do? Few people seem to know. It's quite simple. We will skip the chemistry lesson and how Baking Soda is made. Let's just talk to what it is, and what it does. Bicarbonate of soda is a chemical compound - sodium carbonate or sodium bi-carbonate. When heated, it creates carbon dioxide, a gas. The gas aids a variety of bakery products to rise as they cook.

Many people just think of Bicarbonate of Soda as something you use for baking. But, it has so many more uses. Here are just a few of them:

Baking- helps baked goods, like bread, to rise
Relieve stomach indigestion and heartburn when mixed in
water
Removing odors in the refrigerator, vents, storage areas, and closets
Removing odor in kitty litter
It is used in fire extinguishers for grease and oil fires
It is often used as a cleaning agent
It can be used as a meat tenderizer
Put it in water with beans to minimize flatulence from eating beans
Polish Silverware
Remove burned food from a pot or a pan
And, the list goes on, and on, and......

Origin of National Bicarbonate of Soda Day:
Despite a whole lot of reference to this day, there is no content to help to identify the origin or the creator of this day.

With so many uses, it would sure make sense for Baking Soda to have a national day of recognition. Informally, it is indeed called a "National" day. However, no congressional records or presidential proclamation found.
