Orthotics Process ~ Red Velvet Cream Cheese Torte ~ Sue's Famous Pork Chops

Good 57º cloudy supposed to get rain and thunderboomers morning. We have a parade in town and a 'fair', there are outdoor weddings planned this weekend, and a craft fair in GP. Let's hope the rain holds off!

Last night at 6pm it was just a few puffy little clouds... and the sun actually shown through at 7:30!

Yesterday there was more excitement than I can even describe. I cooked a chicken in the crockpot for Maggie, called the vet re Maggie's meds, fed my critters, and went to see Derrick at the Spectrum Orthotics to get my shoe inserts.....

They are wayyyyyyyyy more comfortable than the ones I bought off the shelf. With the orthotics inserted in my tennis shoes I had to show him how I walked, stood on my toes, and he said, "Can you walk on your heels with your toes up?" NO. Then he laughed and said, "Put that on your blog." Oh Derrick. You are a nut. But, I like you! Call Brian. The forms for the orthotics were taken in foam and filled with a cement of kind. He gave me the forms. Talk about heavy. Now I'm supposed to keep these if/when a problem occurs with the fit. Swell. Something else to find a place for!

Then to the GP Albertsons. I love shopping there. Everything is so fresh and fun and they have a bakery section bar none. I bought a red velvet chocolate torte with cream cheese... OMG! It is sooooooooooooo good!!!! I paced myself though and only had one piece!!! Gadz, that was hard to do.

Ok, now how about a simple recipe I have made a zillion times... Sue's Best & Jerry's Favorite Pork Chops....

pork chops, bone in
water
olive oil
lemon pepper

Place chops in deep frying pan and just cover with water. Sprinkle on lemon pepper. Turn heat to medium high and cook, turning occasionally, until water has all evaporated. Add several tablespoons of olive oil, sprinkle on more lemon pepper. Turn heat to medium and fry, turning until both sides are well browned. This should take about an hour total cooking time. They will be moist and crisp! Serve with Polish Noodles. (recipe tomorrow)

~ Applegate Valley Ranch dinner ~ Rain! ~

Good 63º cloudy morning.

Headed to Medford early yesterday. Got the results of my tests from the rheumatologist doctor and he scheduled me for allergy testing in August. So far, so good. I left the doc's office and stopped in the Providence Hospital for a visit with Joanie. She looked good, said she felt good, and REALLY wanted to go home. I think today she will. We had a fun chat and her giant sandwich lunch was making me drool! Anyway, headed home... the sky was starting to look threatening.

Whaaaa? June 28th and a storm coming in??? Sigh... of course our dinner was planned for the outside venu of Applegate Ranch!

Left a bit early for Applegate just after Brian came over and picked up Atlas. He was a happy boy to see his Dad! Headed to GP and out the Applegate Road...

The Barbecue sign was up and a wedding rehearsal was taking place... (the wedding will be Saturday) I got a glass of wine and found our table and enjoyed watching the festivities... (lol, the bridesmaids were bored waiting....)

Everyone started arriving... (Dee was cold!)

Bill & Jeannie, Dee & Dale, Cathy & Tom, and Dale's brother Brian and his bride Lenore up from Lompoc! Dinner was served by Kim...(her daughter is married to our friend Jon Ainsworth's son ... Jon was Simi Valley PD)

We had barbecued chicken and ribs (GOOD!), beans, cucumber salad (yummm), garlic bread (yummmm more), and chocolate cake. But..................... the rain sprinkles started ... slowly, and finally by the time we were finished it was raining.

Brian and Lenore are newlyweds! Cute.

Even with the rain it was fun. We eventually moved under a big tree and enjoyed more of the music of Phil King.
They moved a pop-up tent over Phil to keep his punkin' head dry!

What a great singer. Mellow, comfortable, and we all knew the lyrics!!! I was chatting with his wife, Adel, who is a Special Ed teacher. Really nice! Fun evening.

Ok, so here's a picture Bill took of me (stole my camera again!) and people always say "we never see a picture of you!" GAG, fine. Here's one!
(No, it's not going to be bigger!)

Historically this date...
1974 – Mikhail Baryshnikov defects from the Soviet Union to Canada while on tour with Bolshoi Ballet.

1995 – The Sampoong Department Store collapses in the Seocho-gu district of Seoul, South Korea, killing 501 and injuring 937.

And births this date...
there are quite a few, but none of any interest to me. Gary Busey celebrates today, but he's a weirdo pig.

Watch this! From my Las Vegas friend, Art the GMC Guy! Funny! Sad. Scary.

Ok, sorry this is late today. Just tired at this end. Happy Friday. Nuff said. Ciao.

El Sereno Marine ~ Asparagus/Mushrooms/Rice/Peas/Chicken!

Good 47º clear morning.

**************************************************

Ok, so the story Brian relayed to me... He has a new client at his Grants Pass Oregon State Farm office... a Clifford Gates. He is a young 90 year old. Told Brian about joining the Navy when Pearl Harbor was bombed. After a short time his commander called him in and said he was being written up, along with several others, for 'insubordination' and was being sent to the Marine Corps! (Ha ha ha... a shortage of Jar Heads so they called on the Squids!) Well, Cliff ended up on Iwo Jima and got photos of the Marines when the US flag was raised.

Cliff also has a red sash he took off a Japanese soldier!
And he has pictures of him in his dress blues and Brian said he was quite the good looking Marine! Then they talked about Cliff's home town............ El Sereno! OMG. He graduated from Wilson High in 1940. (the school was built in 1937 ..... I graduated in '63 and my sister Marion in '54... oldest sister was too good for Wilson and graduated from So. Pas HS in about 1946!)

Cliff's dad was in construction and built the Masonic Lodge there on Huntington Drive and he also built the Cameo Theater, which he owned for a number of years! Brian told him of living in Temple City and riding his bicycle down Las Tunas to Main St to Garfield to Commonwealth to Stockbridge where my parents still lived. Brian and Cliff really bonded. Cliff told him he would give Brian all his insurance business and he'd tell his family to come see Brian too!

What a small world!

The former El Sereno Masonic Lodge #588 (now a Hispanic school) where I was a Job's Daughter, my Mom in Eastern Star, and Daddy was Master.

The former Cameo Theater:

"This neighborhood theater was in the El Sereno district of the City of Los Angeles. About 1970, when it began running Spanish language movies, the name was altered from Cameo to El Cameo, probably to distinguish it from the Cameo Theater on Broadway in downtown L.A. which was also showing Spanish language movies by that time. It housed a furniture company into the mid-2000’s, and by 2009 was in use as a discount store."

For dinner last night I sauteéd some asparagus and more mushrooms and added that to the orange chicken/rice/peas dinner from the night before....
