Slept In! ~ Turkey Sandwich ~ Soup Soon ~ Bubba

Good 40º foggy (raining in GP according to Brian) morning. I SLEPT THE DAY AWAY!!! I didn't get up until 7:30!!! OMG. Well, yesterday I woke up just after 3am and never could get back to sleep so, this is what I needed. Strange to wake up and it's LIGHT! Weird. So, will play catch up for a bit with the blog etc.

Today is 'soup day'. I had a turkey sandwich with mayo, lettuce, and Jeannie's cranberry relish for dinner last night. AWESOMELY good!
Today I will strip the carcass
that I had cooked all day yesterday in broth and make soup. I have mushrooms (many kinds), wild rice, broccoli, pasta, tomatoes, onion, garlic, and anything else I can find in the fridge or cupboard. Drooling now thinking about it.

Yesterday I put some broken up rolls out in the back yard, as they were old and stale so thought the turkeys would like them. Not. But later I heard a crow making 'strange noises' and when I walked into the dining room there he was on the barn roof with a couple of the rolls!

(Sorry not a good picture) He was happy happy and the rest of the rolls soon disappeared.

Gloomy and a little drizzle yesterday and today looks the same...

My good Sisterfriend Olga's "little boy" James is 21 years old today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!

Leaves ~ Electricity ~ Turkey Dinner

Good 45º morning. Some really cold nights on the horizon, down to the teens soon. Better bring in that brass monkey!

(Brass monkey - colloquial expression, meaning something solid and inert that can only be affected by extremes, or meaning an extreme of cold)

Yesterday Birdhouse Gary came over with his lawn tractor and 'sucked' up a truck load of leaves to mulch his garden with...

First picture is after Jason blew the leaves off the road on the 21st and then yesterday...

He's happy with the leaves and I'm happy they are gone!

Pretty day .... 11:30am

Here is an amazing video. Watch to the end... our world has not been explored yet! So much still undiscovered. Fascinating. Thanks Judy for this!!!

and ..... if that wasn't enough... you MUST see the babies in this video. It puts a big smile on your face!

Kristen is recovering nicely from her foot surgery. She's still wearing the "boot" but had bandages changed yesterday and got a note from the doc so she can go back to work today. She sent me this picture of what she calls her "Easter colors foot"....

Poor baby. At least after all this recovery is over she will be able to run again! YEAH! (I have told you that she still holds the school record at her high school - Arroyo - for the 200 yard dash! My running girl!)

I cooked 'Alexander', my turkey, yesterday. About an hour or so before it was done our power went off. I called the power company and they said 1600 of us were without electricity. Great. Poured a wine and waited... Luckily it was only off 30 or so minutes. Turkey was good as well as the stuffing with lots of butter/onions/celery/mushrooms/water chestnuts and yummmmmo gravy.... and the luscious cranberry relish Jeannie made....

Ahhhhh..... Now we have leftovers for sandwiches and I'll make turkey soup today!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Tuesday. Ciao

Yesterday stayed pretty overcast and gloomy all day....

I walked into the living room and there was a noise in the wood stove. A bird was inside.
(this is not my picture...found it on the internet...it must happen a lot!) Propped open the front door and the screen, got a big piece of newspaper in my hand, slowly opened the stove door, and out flew Mr. Birdie! He was nervous and finally did head to the door after I wildly waved my hands. This has happened, probably once a year, and I never have taken a picture. My only concern is the bird and getting him to freedom. They seem so joyous when they finally go through the open door. If they could talk I'm sure I would hear a

 "YAAAAAAAAA HOOOOOOOO"!

So, walked out the back door and there was a deer eating apples. Scared the doe and she took off. I put out some corn for the birds and when I came back from taking trash to the road for pick up tomorrow, she was back. She didn't run, but kept an eye on Maggie and me.

Had to really laugh... my neighbor Frank waved me over when I was coming back from the trash run. He, very seriously, asked, "Do you yell at me like you do Gerard when I use my leaf blower?" "Whaaaaa?" Apparently on Thanksgiving morning when I was fed up with the neighbor up on the hill above me blowing leaves for hours on hours...
I was out on my front deck and yelled, "FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STOP THAT IRRITATING NOISE?!!!!" He couldn't hear me, natch, because he was operating the blower, but it certainly relieved my irritation to yell about it! See, here's another reason I hated living in the city, aside from traffic and crime, was the danged gardeners who were constantly assaulting us with noise from lawnmowers and blowers! Now you have to understand that Frank and Cindy live down by my gate which is about 200 yards. Frank was standing on his back deck when I let loose with my frustration. LOL LOL LOL. OMG so funny. Frank said, "If you are going to yell at me, make sure my blower is off so I can hear you." Do I have fun and funny neighbors, or what! Ok, Frank, next time! :o)

I cried! Great video! Thanks Dave Aguilar! (Wilsonite....!)

National French Toast Day

Another way to make your french toast breakfast is to dip the bread in the egg, etc, and then put it in the waffle iron!
2 Eggs
Dash cinnamon
Dash nutmeg
¼ t. Vanilla
¼ cup Milk
2 T Melted butter
4-6 Thick sliced bread

Preheat waffle iron and spray with non stick cooking spray.
Mix the eggs until frothy, add the rest of ingredients. Mix well. Dip bread into mixture and put in waffle iron until well browned.

I love them this way~
