Good 48º sunny clear morning.
Some of you asked me about the vodka I put in the marinara sauce. Well, I love 'vodka sauce' and it is not only yummy with penne or any pasta but it is sooooooooooooo easy! It does something special to regular meaty marinara sauce...
1 quart store-bought marinara sauce (or your own)
1 cup vodka
1/2 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
1/2 cup grated Parmesan
With my sauce, I just stirred in about 1/3 cup vodka and about 1/3 cup cream, just to lighten it up.... or... you can buy canned vodka sauce, I recommend Bertolli
Here is a little more info re alcohol added to cooking ...There are flavor compounds in foods, especially in tomatoes, that are alcohol soluble. That means these flavors are not released unless they are mixed with alcohol. That is why we add alcohol to many dishes. We could add wine, vodka, etc. The alcohol in vodka is cheap, compared to wine. When most people make tomato sauce at home and want to add alcohol, wine is more common because it adds both alcohol and other flavors. Just FYI.
So, about this flagpole I just bought at Rooster Crow....
It has NO Ropes, NO Chains, NO Pulleys so no worry about knots and tangles. Also, by not requiring a rope or pulley to raise the flag, it eliminates the clanging of the rope in the wind making the flagpole virtually NOISE FREE.
The Titan Telescoping Flagpole has patented interlocking sleeves which allows to easily raise each section of the flagpole without any troublesome push-buttons. The interlocking sleeves interlock together inside each section so the flagpole will not collapse in the wind like many other twist-lock telescoping flagpoles. The interlocking sleeves are made of Lexan and held in place with a custom machined aluminum post fastener and 2 locking tabs so our interlocking sleeves will not come loose like other flagpoles that use glue. The interlocking sleeves also increase the bearing surface between each section to reduce wobble.
The swivel ring harness which the flags are mounted on, are made of Lexan and allow the flag to fly "Freely" 360 degrees around the pole, preventing the flag from wrapping around the flagpole. Less wear and tear on "Old Glory". It also comes with a double swivel ring which allows you to fly 2 flags or fly your flag at 1/2 staff. Mine is 25' tall. They have various sizes .. wall and dock/deck mounts. AND they have military flags!
If anyone is interested, this pole and the flags he sells are made in the USA! www.oregonflagandpole.com David Marion is the owner. He will give you the "show discount" if you are a reader of my blog, but don't order on the site, call him (number on the site) and also if you live in Jackson or Josephine counties he will deliver it for free.
A 'pirate day' was my Sunday. 'Rrrrrr and rrrrrrrr'. (silly, I know) Didn't do much. Stayed in. House was cool and I stayed in sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt. Outside it hit about 85º. I did laundry, made some cards, ate leftovers, and worked on my blog. Even took a nap in my chair between 6pm and 7pm. Maggie and Harley just hung out. I got an email from my friend Joan who had gallbladder surgery on Friday. She's home and doing well. Yeah! Brian called from the coast where it was 70º. He and Jen and the kids went to the show and saw Cars 2.
They loved it. Kris and Jack and his friend saw it this weekend too and also loved it.
Historically this date....
And since those were such big whoopies, how about who was born this date....
Interesting person, but a extreme liberal socialist.
... and today is the birthday of one of my Greek traveling pals..
Pat Kelly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!!!!!! You bad girl, you! Greece will never be the same after your visit! LOL. That was fun!!!
I had an incident last evening... saw a skunk wobbling up my road. He looked sick. Lots of times they have rabies and do strange things. So, walking by him was a turkey. Turkey ignored Skunk, but Skunk threw his backside up in a spraying attempt.
Nada. Nothing came out. The skunk made a left turn and wobbled into my carport. Not good. If he sprays in there my truck will suffer and then I will suffer! I took some pictures of this event, but discovered later (I AM SUCH A DUMMY!!!) my camera card was stuck in my computer! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. I can't tell you how angry I was with me! Second time doing this. You would think I'd learn. You'd think!
So, I will offer up some of my vast knowledge on the subject of skunks and their odiferous contribution to our olfactory senses. First of all if you live in the country or city and have seen skunks near your home, run to the local market and buy a bottle of Neutrogena Clean Shampoo.
If your dog or cat is sprayed, nix the horribly messy tomato juice bath, use the Neutrogena. It works and fast! As soon as you lather up your pet, the smell is gone! The shampoo imparts a wonderful smell to your fur friend. Also, if you should happen to walk in some skunk spray residue, wash your shoes with the shampoo to remove the smell. We had some experience with this process, as Jerry trapped and disposed of about 6 skunks who had gotten under our house!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

Skunks UNDER the house?!Yeowee. One more reason to be glad we have a slab floor.
Helen Keller's life experience is so different from ours, I would be surprised if she came to the same conclusions on politics as we. However- Tom Sullivan is my hero on how to deal with life when you are caught short- just use it to steer to a different path.
I would rather you are safe from skunk than have its picture. As much as you photograph- Have you thought of rotating two cards at same time so you you are never caught off-guard.
We had a trench dug around the foundation and wire put down so now the critters (skunks and ground squirrels, etc) cannot dig under any more.
As for Helen, I agree she had a different perspective and wonder if it would have been different if she could see and hear.
The camera card ... what a good idea! Ewe sew smart! Thanks! xoxoxoxo
Hey Sue ...
Ever think about having more than one card ... I have several ... when you take one out of the camera put another one in this way you'll never miss a shot.
Joan
Ok, Lydia the practical one and Joan the camera person, both of you will get credit for saving my ass!! Thank you!!! xoxox
Sue,
What a great idea Lydia and Joan had! I wouldn't have thought of that either! As I told you before I have a little charging stand that my camera sits on. I just push a button and the pics go to my computer. Daryl tells me they don't make the little charging stand anymore and you have to always remove the card! How dumb is that?? For that reason I wouldn't let them upgrade my camera.
Ohhhh you are cruel to show us that fabulous Lawry prime rib dinner! My mouth is drooling too! Now to go get some NS dry ceral! Oh thrill!!
XO Trisha
p.s. LOVE the advice re the shampoo! What wonderful info! Did not know that! Living in the wilderness as we do we have gotten many skunks in the yard over the years. That is so good to know!
Thanks T. Yes that prime rib looks wonderful and makes me miss being closer to Lawry's. ox

Thanks you for all the info you send out to us'ns.
Pat (the birthday woman) in Santa Barbara
Hey, yes you did Missy Pat! Miss you guys!!!! xo
Thanks for the tip on the Nuetrogena shampoo as we rural folks often deal with this. I thankfully had a vet offer us good advice about de-skunking your pets who get sprayed by using Douche... yes, that's right... the ladies stuff for cleansing... It cuts right through the smell and gets rid of the offensive skunk odor. So if you can't find the shampoo, it is a great alternative. I used the non-vinegar one on our dogs and it worked just fine. Now stop laughing, cause it does work, and get back to taking and posting great photos. Chow :-)
Vanette, you are funny!!! Yes, I've heard of the 'douche' method, but believe me the shampoo is mucho better! And I ALWAYS keep some on hand. xo Ciao.
