Summer Solstice ~ Acronyms ~ Blonde Man ~ Ringneck Dove ~ Pesticide Residues ~ Barb ~ Martini ~ Italian Pots-A-La-Goo

Good 45º clear sunny morning. THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER. The longest day of daylight hours of the year in the northern hemisphere!

On non-leap years, until 2039) this day marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere, and is the day of the year with the most hours of daylight in the northern hemisphere and the fewest hours of daylight in the southern hemisphere.
And this site will give you the sunrise and sunset times by zip code ... also by day of the year....

There are acronyms for everything.. now especially since so many are texting... these are a few... some of our quirks...

OC - obsessive compulsive
ADD or ADHD - adult deficit disorder or adult deficit hyperactivity disorder
PTSD - post traumatic stress disorder
LOBDTW - lack of brain due to wine
BIDBOW - brain is dead because of wine
ICE       -I can't entertain
MBWC - my body won't cooperate

Ok, here's a blonde man joke from Lynn Helbing (LASD ret):
A woman phoned her blonde neighbor man and said: "Close your curtains the
next time you & your wife are having sex. The whole street was watching and laughing at you yesterday."
To which the blonde man replied: "Well the joke's on all of you because I wasn't even at home yesterday".

Love love this photo of a ringneck dove... sent to me by my friend Flory Ornstein (hubby Neil former SR for LASD and Marine) .. Flory's neighbor took this.. Such beautiful birds. I love doves anyway......

So I was out taking pictures...such a beautiful day...

Dude napping in the sun....

Mr. Hummer taking a rest.... I have 2 of these large feeders and a small one. Been inundated with hummingbirds and have to fill the feeders daily!

This is interesting... I use herbal teas from Sunrider and this was an email from the company....
Which fruits and vegetables have the most pesticide residues?Organic produce is great — if it’s available and affordable. But what if your grocery store doesn’t have the
organic produce you need? Or what if it’s too expensive?
In these cases, it’s important to know which “conventional” fruits and vegetables have the most pesticide
residues, and which have the least.
We call these two groups “The Dirty Dozen” and “The Clean Fifteen”.
Most contaminated: THE DIRTY DOZEN
FRUITS:
Peaches, Apples, Nectarines, Strawberries, Cherries,
Imported grapes, Pears
VEGETABLES:
Sweet bell peppers, Celery, Kale, Lettuce, Carrots
Least Contaminated: THE CLEAN FIFTEEN FRUITS:
Avocados, Pineapples, Mangoes, Kiwi, Papayas,
Watermelon, Grapefruit
VEGETABLES:
Onions, Sweet corn,Asparagus,Sweet peas,Cabbage,
Eggplant, Broccoli, Tomatoes, Sweet potatoes
.....so, be sure and wash those fruits and veggies!

Yesterday I ran 5 Miles. (LOL... Dude ran and I drove the golf cart.) down to the road to the trash can and mailbox. Then paid bills on line. Bruiser slept upstairs ALL day. Stayed nice, clouds gave us some shade. Hit 82º. Stayed cool in the house. Kept a sweatshirt on. When we had the siding put on several years ago they insulated the house really well and it's made such a difference.

I finally celebrated Martini Day with a dirty martini last night... I used stuffed spicy chipotle olives. OMGOOOD!

Then dinner... spinach ravioli, pineapple teriyaki meatballs, diced tomato sauce, artichoke hearts, garlic, shallot, olive oil, mushrooms, fresh basil...  First I sauteéd the refrigerated ravioli in olive oil until browned well. Set aside.
I picked some of my fresh basil, put it in a glass of water, and cover it with a plastic bag to make a greenhouse. Stays fresh for quite a while!

To the frying pan I added the chopped shallot, mushrooms, garlic, and meatballs... sauté until shallot is soft and meatballs and mushrooms are browned.

Then I added in some chopped basil, the diced tomatoes in sauce... and mixed it all up....

When plating I set some of the ravioli on top...

This was really OMGOOOOD!!!! The Trader Joe's diced tomatoes in sauce are awesome! When the kids were small and I'd put a bunch of "stuff" (leftover veggies, meats, rice, pasta, etc) and add a sauce we'd call it "Pots-A-La-Goo".... LOL. They would request it... never knowing what was going to be in it!
All I know. Happy Saturday. Nuff said. Ciao.
