Phones Out ~ Meatloaf & Quinoa with Peppers & Haricots Vert ~

Good 25º morning. Pressure dropping.

So cold last night, windy, had a snuggy fire in the wood stove. Everyone happy.

Yesterday was frustrating. The DSL went off about noon and after repeated rebooting it was still off at 8pm and I gave up and shut everything down. To make matters worse, the phones wouldn't work either. Apparently some folks trying to call from out of the area got a "all circuits busy" message. My cell didn't work or my land line phone. Every number I called I got the "caffeinated" busy signal.... ! I couldn't even dial 911. Hope nobody needed 911. That would be tragic. I checked with my neighbors and they were all experiencing the same problems. The news had nothing last night so will turn it on this am. OK, I just found the following from the local NBC KDVR channel site:

MEDFORD, Ore. -- Phone lines and 911 service is currently down to now thousands of people in Jackson County. The problem began early Tuesday afternoon.

Century Link is currently looking into the problem, but no word on an estimated time of repair. They are trying to determine what caused the outages to the affected areas. Customers are recommended to use their cell phones if they need to make an emergency call. If that doesn't work, Jackson County Sheriff's Office advises people to go to their local police or fire departments for assistance.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has added additional patrols to the affected areas and has also stationed deputies at Gold Hill City Hall, the Fire Station in Wimer, and at the Rogue Family Center in White City. Deputies will remain at those locations until service is fully restored.

I got my new smoker hooked up and running. All I have to do is "season" it by letting it run for 3 hours and the last 45 minutes add some wood chips. Then we back to smokin'! Gonna try some chicken like Bill and Jeannie made. So awesomely good!

Dinner, another experiment... I found some meatloaf already made up in the freezer, so thawed that and cooked it, using wasabe/teriyaki sauce on the top instead of catsup. Good!

Then I cooked some quinoa and sprouted rice and a red sticky rice in the rice cooker. Cut up and sauteéd yellow and green bell pepper with haricots vert and garlic in olive oil. Served up the peppers on the rice.....

And we had a pretty sunset... this about 6:30pm:
