Fierce Osprey ~ Black Rice/Quinoa Smoked Sausage/Veggie Fry ~ Prime Rib Day

Good 42º somewhat cloudy morning.

No radar on the map. "Mostly cloudy" and "partly cloudy" is all it says on the weather site for the next few days. Yesterday it rained and then it was sunny, sun went away, and it rained, and then sun came back and then left and more rain. It was a peek-a-boo sun day! Got about 1/8" rain... and it was cold! Warmed to 52º for a few minutes and then back to 50º. I even turned the heater on!

This is the MOST awesome video! An osprey is fierce! It came from my friend Linda Rhorbacher. (Her bf is an old high school friend, and Jon was the one who bought Jerry's John Deere tractor!)

Never seen a bird shake water off like a dog does, especially in mid-air. I wouldn't want to get in the way of him when he's got his eyes locked and his talons in the "load" position!
There are 3 sequences in this one youtube video:

1st sequence he catches half a dozen fish in one strike.
2nd sequence he plunges talons into deep water right to the bottom to grab his prey.
3rd sequence he captures a big fish that looks as if it weighs more than he does! And rides it in the air like a skateboard at the end.
This is incredible to watch (best viewed in full screen mode)...enjoy!

For my 'still smoking' friends...

Shame on you. QUIT! It's your body, I know, but you are
putting it in peril! And you are saying, "yadda yadda yadda". Well, chances of getting cancer of some kind.. including throat, mouth, nasal cavity, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and cervix, and acute myeloid leukemia are pretty good.

Cigarette smoking causes an estimated 443,000 deaths each year, including approximately 49,400 deaths due to exposure to secondhand smoke.

People who smoke are up to six times more likely to suffer a heart attack than nonsmokers, and the risk increases with the number of cigarettes smoked. Smoking also causes most cases of chronic lung disease.

In 2009, approximately 20.6 percent of U.S. adults were cigarette smokers.

Nearly 20 percent of high school students smoke cigarettes.

I know what you are saying... enough of the lecture. I know your family and friends have said as much to you and hoped you would quit or BEGGED you to quit! Besides you are really stinky too!!! No amount of cologne, after shave, or hand washing can help that you smell like an ashtray!

OK, off

!

Historically this date...
1296Battle of Dunbar: The Scots are defeated by Edward I of England.
Dunbar is a family name, Mom's side, and King Edward I invaded Scotland because he was pissed that King John Balliol refused to support the English military action in France. He was a dork anyway, but caused battlefield losses. The Dunbar Castle is the remnants of one of the most mighty fortresses in Scotland. What it did look like and today the ruins...

Dinner... I cooked some black rice. To that I added some cumin and a zested lemon and the juice. Put it aside and cooked some quinoa with sprouted rice, and put that aside.

Then I soaked some dried mushrooms in white wine and drained them. Put the mushrooms in a pan with some artichoke/mozzarella smoked chicken sausage and olive oil, and cut up orange, and the zested rind. When sauteéd to my idea of perfection, I added in a can of drained artichoke quarters, some garlic powder, sea salt, and citrus pepper.

That done I stirred in the cooked black rice and the cooked quinoa and sprouted rice. Heated through. Dished it up with some yummy Roma tomatoes....

VERY tasty and heathy!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Friday. Ciao.
