Weather ~ Plumbing ~ Old Photos ~ Duck Squad ~ Debbie Taylor ~ Smoky Paprika Popcorn ~ Air Fryer and Schwans Food ~ Mai Tai Day

Good 50º clear sunny morning.

By 2 o'clock we hit 86º. This is the kind of weather I love. Not hot enough for AC and nice breeze to keep windows and doors open. Ahhhhh.......

Frustrated as all get out yesterday. My kitchen sink stopped up again. The plumbing here really SUCKS! Called the plumber I have been doing business with for the last 20 years and was told it would be next week before he could come out. Too busy. WHAT????? So I called Brian's friend Doug the plumber. He will be here this morning!!! YIPPEEEEE............... He has been here before when I couldn't get the other one out here, but have just felt a loyalty. That's done!

If you are in the area and need a good plumber, Doug Gillette Plumbing 541-218-2462 !

Yesterday I scanned photos and organized them as to who they will be sent to. Me and my babies... Kristen and Brian! I was still a baby too, not even 40 yet!!!

And Kristen on her 19th birthday, Halloween, and Tigger sitting on her lap.

And, Brian, our 15 year old, flat top, new DeMolay

The Duck Squad. Shared by John Anderson (LASD ret)  A "natural form of pest control" !!

This is truly amazing...

Today a special birthday.. former Temple City neighbor Debbie Mehl Taylor. Here she is with her 3 girls, Heather, Lindsay, and Heidi.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBBIE!!!! xo

If you are thinking of watching the fireworks on the 4th and think a big bowl of popcorn would be good to munch while doing that, then how about this:
Smoky Paprika Popcorn

1/4 cup olive oil
6 T popcorn
4 T butter
2 T smoked paprika
1 t garlic powder
1 t onion powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 t black pepper
Cook popcorn the way you normally would, but if using a heavy pot on the stove use olive oil and popcorn mix as above.
Melt butter and mix in paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Drizzle over the popcorn and mix until the popcorn is coated. Sprinkle on more paprika and salt. Enjoy!

Later for dinner in the Air Fryer (http://www.powerairfryer.com/ ) I cooked some Schwans Alaska Cod (still frozen http://www.schwans.com/products/product?id=52118 ) drizzled with olive oil for 13 minutes and in the micro I steamed Schwans green beans (http://www.schwans.com/products/product?id=60498 ) . A little tartar sauce and spinach to go with.....

PERFECT!!!! I just love it... EASY and GOOD!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TGIF. Ciao.

Throw Back Thursday ~ Mini Scrambles/Caramel Apple Tartlet ~ Super Photos ~ Dave Smail ~ 1984 Photos ~ Quiche/Asian Stir Fry Veggies ~ Waffle Iron Cooking

Good 46º clear sunny morning.
Yesterday it was clear and sunny and we rose in temperature to 86º. Nice!!! Again, doors and windows open, and no AC.
Throw Back Thursday.... 2004 when we went from T-111 plywood siding to the vinyl siding...

And the insulation that was put on before the siding... which has made a HUGE difference in the house staying cool in summer and warmer in winter!

Dude's limping dissapated, so I didn't take him to the vet. He must have hit a rock with the pad of his foot while running Tuesday and it bruised. He''s good now, just barely limping.
Breakfast was Schwans Mini Scrambles on spinach with tomato and an Omaha Steaks Caramel Apple Tartlet. The scrambles and tartlet remain frozen until you are ready to eat them, then into the microwave they go. Taaaa daaaaaa.......
   OMGOOOD!!!
Here is a site with bunches of really interesting photos... animals and scenery:

Yesterday I got busy cleaning out "stuff". Jars of home canned stuff in the cupboard for too long. Down the garbage disposal! Then found a basket of stuff in my bedroom that most went into the trash, and a few things will go to the Senior Center store.
Then I took apart a 1984 photo album.
I will divide up the photos and share them with those in them. Sent a few via email...

Kristen and her Christmas Dance date with Jeff Lamb....

The day after Thanksgiving at Jerry's mom's in Pleasant Grove (north of Sacramento on Hwy 99) . Andy and Linda Nantz and their boys always came to visit (they lived close, in Woodland). Jerry's mom made the turkey dinner for T-Day and the next day I made turkey soup for everyone.
Linda:

L-R front row: grandmother's Brandy and and our Dallas
L-R second row: Andy, Lincoln (Jerry's son), Brian, Chris (Nantz), Jerry, Kristen, Michael (Nantz), and Daddy Richard (Grandmother's man!)

And here's Jerry and Jerry! Beck (LASD ret) and Maxwell.

That was fun. More to organize today!
Later for dinner I cooked a Costco Quiche and steamed some Schwans Asian Stir Fry veggies in the microwave......

The vegetables (carrots, snap peas, broccoli, bell pepper, and crunchy water chestnuts. You put them in a microwave safe bowl, add in a drizzle of olive oil or water (I used both) and the Asian seasoning. I only used half of the seasoning. They put a lid on the bowl and cook for 6-8 minutes. They are really good and VERY spicy! Or, they can be cooked in a skillet.

Then it was chair, wine, TV... Animal Cops Phoenix, Family Feud, and skimmed though the news for just the local stuff. The national news is all BS!!!!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.

Waffle Iron Day**

Waffle Iron Day celebrates this great kitchen gadget that makes tasty waffles. Waffles are cooked between two metal plates. A waffle iron is powered by electricity to heat the plates and create, light waffles ready for you to top with syrup, and/or your favorite fruits.
Waffles are not just for breakfast. They are good for lunch or dinner, too.
The origin of the waffle:  The waffle dates back to the 1300s in Greece. Greeks cooked flat cakes between two metal pans. At the time, they topped it with cheeses and herbs. Pancake syrup wasn't around back then.
You do know how to celebrate this day.......don't you!? If you don't have a waffle iron, today is a good day to go out and buy one. If you are too busy to make waffles ourself, buy some frozen in your grocery store, or order them out at a restaurant.
** Not only can you cook waffles in a waffle iron, but so many other things... I love cooking grilled cheese sandwiches in it

refrigerator biscuits (slit and add cheese),
and macaroni & cheese!

Or take a couple tortillas, spray one side of each with cooking spray, put whatever sounds good on them, and set in the waffle iron and press down slightly and cook...
Also, hash brown nuggets are super cooked in the waffle iron!

Sun ~ Some Clouds ~ Cool Day ~ Kylee Ice Skating ~ Betty (Laney) Mueller ~ Slow Cooker Onion Potatoes ~ Cloud Chart ~ Dude ~ TV Shows

Good 49º sunny morning. I have to say, even the heat is not a problem since we FINALLY have sunny days! All that gloom in past months was depressing~!

Yesterday Mike of All Natural Pest Control was here, checking the bait boxes. Looks like the ground squirrel population is decreasing because of them. Yes!!!

The clouds came in, it was super nice and cool, 60ºs  for quite awhile... We hit 73º by 11:30. Still heavenly outside! We topped out at 87º. No AC on, doors and windows open. Ahhhh......

Breakfast was a Schwans ham/cheese omelette topped with Parmesan, tomato, and Greek non-fat yogurt with dried veggies on top.

My friend Lovella, aka Lov, shared her great granddaughter's ice skating video with me. She is 12. A blue ribbon champ! Go Kylee!!!

Today is my oldest sister's 88th  birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY!

You want some potatoes to go with your barbecued steak? Instead of heating up the kitchen cooking them in the oven, try this easy slow cooker recipe....

Ingredients:
2 pounds russet potatoes, thinly sliced (about 8 small potatoes)
1/4 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. pepper
1 pkg Lipton Onion Soup Mix
1/3 cup olive oil
4 qt or larger slow cooker
1. Spray inside of slow cooker with cooking spray
2. Add the potatoes in a spiral design
3. Sprinkle on garlic, pepper, and onion soup mix
4. Drizzle olive oil evenly over potatoes
5. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours without opening lid during cooking time.

Here is a chart of what types of clouds there are...

Later Dude was limping REALLY BAD on his left rear foot. He had gone out when Mike was here and ran to the barn and back. Even Mike said, "he sure likes to run". Yes he does! So, first thing today I was going to take him to the vet's, but the limping has subsided. We'll wait and see.

Last night I watched a new show I had not seen before, Animal Cops Phoenix. It's on the Animal Planet channel. Great stories and people who abuse animals get cited!!!!  Yes! Animals are taken from abusive situations.

Then I watched some Family Feud and Andrew Zimmerman's Bizarre Foods. Some super strange foods people prepare and eat!!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

Insurance Awareness Day

My favorite agent:

Insurance Awareness Day has got to be one of your top holidays, right!? Now, at this point, one must be asking... Why Insurance Awareness Day? Good question.
Insurance, be it home, auto or life insurance, offers you peace of mind that if something happens, you will be financially protected. Of course when it comes to life insurance, if something happens, you won't be around to worry about the outcome.
Insurance is a gamble. If you buy it, you're gambling that something will go wrong. If you don't buy it, you're gambling that something will not happen.
Were not sure what you should do to enjoy and appreciate this day. We are certain what the insurance companies would like you to do today........

As for me, my agent, my son, takes exceptional good care of me and my insurance!!
