Leap Day ~ Snow ~ Another TC Incident ~ Coughing Diagnosis

Good 32º snowy morning. Rain started yesterday afternoon and got harder and the wind blew and it rained harder... then the snow started about 7pm. We got about 3/4" of rain before the snow. Pretty out there. So glad I don't have to go ANYWHERE today!!!

.... and as I write, it's snowing again!

Yesterday was a busy one. Went to see the pulmonary specialist and she thinks I have a sinus infection. She gave me nose squirters, a neti pot (the new kind

..) and some heavy antibiotics. The new antibiotics are about 30 times stronger and you only take 2 the first day and then one a day for the next three days. Anyway, I'm feeling better already! Then to Target for some of their Archer's Tiramisu coffee and something to try ... Chocolate Strawberry coffee. Then to Costco, Cash & Carry, the pharmacy, Ace, and the market. Whew. Picked the right day for all that running around. Now to stay in and warm and dry.

We did have another 'incident' at our curve on the road. Three days ago someone took out PJ & Dave's mailbox and Monday night someone took out the
sign that was between my driveway and theirs. The county crew was in the process of digging out the old post and putting in new when I was leaving for town....

The sign that was taken out was between the existing sign and the county truck..

When I came home there were now three signs~!

Apparently the driver took out the one near PJ's driveway and then crossed over the roadway and took out some more farther down! Wonder what today's snow will bring.

LEAP DAY! For those of you born on this date.... Sheesh, a birthday every 4 years. Dang, wish it had been me.... I would only be 16 years old!!! WOW. Dating Jack Bruno, Karl Sherman, Mike Bastian, Dave Aguilar.......

Sandy                and Sue          and I

would be hanging out and riding around in Sue's 1952 Chevy!

or Sandy's Renault.....

 and going to Henry's on Valley or Taco Petes or Farmer Boys.....

Anyway, I don't know anyone who has a birthday today. Maybe after my blog comes out I'll hear of some.

My friend Tally, pretty wife of the handsome dashing retired LA Co fire Captain .. Spencer Huntoon (for you Wilsonites!) (Dang, wish these pictures had scanned better!)

 asked me about the weight of dried mushrooms vs reconstituted. So, I didn't know and experimented. Weighed 2 cups of dry, reconstituted them, weighed them. 2 cups equals about 1 oz and when reconstituted they weighed 7 oz. She needed to know for a recipe that calls for 2 pounds of mushrooms and she wanted to use the dried variety.

Eagle Doing Breast Stroke ! ~ Crab Veggies One Rice Pot Meal

Good 26º frozen morning.

Yesterday while everyone in So. Cal got drizzle and rain we had SUN!

Rod Johnston sent this, how right you are... this is the perfect anti-carjacking device! I love it!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This fascinating video from Ron Weisberger (LASD ret) ... the pre-warm up for the video says "I did not know that any raptor had the ability to do what is filmed." In the original email it says: "This footage was taken at Mallard Lakes in Baton Rouge, La. Someone had shot a 'nutria' and it was floating dead in the water. I can't believe what this Eagle did to bring the nutria in. I never saw an Eagle do the breast-stroke before." The person who passed this on said, "As far as the animal being described as a 'nutria', I have my doubts since a nutria is a fur from a coypu which is indigenous to South America, but it's definitely something heavy. Click the link below...."
Being the Doubting Thomas that I am, I found the following information on a 'nutria'........
The coypu (from the Mapudungun, koypu), (Myocastor coypus), also known as the river rat, and nutria, is a large, herbivorous, semiaquatic rodent and the only member of the family Myocastoridae. Originally native to subtropical and temperate South America, it has since been introduced to North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, primarily by fur ranchers. Although it is still valued for its fur in some regions, its destructive feeding and burrowing behaviors make this invasive species a pest throughout most of its range.
So, anyway, watch this video. I was blown away! So cool.
Dinner... another one of those super easy put everything in the rice cooker meal : Quinoa and rice blend, Taboli, rinsed and drained black beans, sweet potato, sweet peppers, mushrooms, chopped asparagus, Simply Asian seasoning. and fake crab.
First I cooked the sweet potato for about 4 minutes in the microwave, peeled and cut it into pieces. Layered all the ingredients starting with the quinoa and the taboli and then added about 4 cups of water and turned it on.
Excellent meal!!!
National Tooth Fairy Day
Losing your teeth may have been a bit alarming when you were little'until you realized there was someone to pay you the big bucks for your discarded choppers. Too bad the tooth fairy only deals in baby teeth' those wisdom teeth you had pulled probably would've fetched a pretty penny.
Corn Snow ~ Dead Mailbox ~ Kahlua Cheesecake
Good 28º frozen (again) morning. I just went out to say good morning to Mr. & Mrs. Gan-dar and Mr. & Mrs. Mal-ard and there is corn snow all over the ground! Clouds are moving out, so that must be the extent of today's excitement!
So, yesterday I get a call from my pal, PJ (Pat & Dave) who is in Arizona for a couple of months. She said there was a message on her answering machine from the Sheriff's Dept that someone had taken out their mailbox in a traffic collision. She wanted me to go check it out and see if there was any other damage. First picture shows where the mailbox was, the spot where the post landed, and the spot in the bushes where the mailbox landed......
I gathered the items and along with part of a hubcap, glass, and two empty mini bottles of vodka... put them in one place... when I took the picture, the empty vodka bottles were still in my pocket .. along with a letter that had been in the mailbox.. a Christmas card with a note attached (all wet and torn now) from a neighbor who had gotten the mail by mistake. PJ and Dave get their mail delivered to a mail station, not their box.
Maggie kept an eye on me and wondered why I was walking around by the road....
Of course she wasn't looking at me when I took her picture!
Just past my driveway is a curve, PJ & Dave's driveway, and for some reason idiots wrapped around morons (I LOVE that Jeannie!!!!) must say to them self, "Look, a curve ... let's go faster!" This is especially true if it's been raining or the road is icy. Duh. Anyway in the message from the Deputy he said the driver will be paying for a new mailbox. Damn straight!
This is too funny.... not only are a majority of my friends named 'Pat' but this video is of Pat the Cat.
Just a hint for those young ladies out there, if you are going to publish a video with yourself in it, make sure you are wearing undergarments! This gal did, somewhat.... more is needed!
Historically this date...
............now if only that could be with Congressmen and Senators!!!
1964 – The government of Italy asks for help to keep the Leaning Tower of Pisa from toppling over.
..............personally, I think we need help to keep our government here, in the good old U S of A, from toppling over. Get that Socialist OUT of the WHITE HOUSE!
