Good 50º drizzly morning. What a start to a day!
I woke about midnight with Dude barking and acting weird. Looked out and
there were two dogs. A light colored looked like a yellow lab.. and a German
shepherd mix. It was raining! Nothing I felt I could do at the time and hoped
they would go back home. Each time one or both walked by the side of the house
the motion light would go on. That kept me awake til after 1:30am. When I got up
this morning at 7, the shepherd mix was on my back porch! OMG. I went out and he
was the SWEETEST DOG EVER! All wet too. I have a piece of carpet in the back of
my golf cart so I told him to jump up there. He did. I wiped him off a little
with a towel and came back in the house. He laid down on the carpet with his
head on the towel. The other dog was not around.
I had to have Dude at the vet's office by 8:30 for his teeth cleaning.. so
had to rush, get some hot tea, clean up, makeup, etc. Rush rush rush... I got
the collar off the dog and called the numbers on the tag. Of course it was a
vet's office and nobody in yet. So I called Animal Control. Gave them the tag
number but she said it wasn't a Jackson Co number, she thought it came from
Josephine Co. She took my address and said someone would be out to get the dog
and see if they can find his owners.
Then the vet's office called I had left a message with and they gave me the
dog's name, Smoke, and his owner's name, address, and phone number. They live
close by! I called, but no answer so left a message. Put Smoke in the front
fenced yard and gave him some chews and kibble with chicken stock. Took Dude to
the vet's.... here is Smoke watching us go..
Got back home and got a call from Jacob, Smoke's owner. He was on his way
over. Then the Animal Control guy, John, showed up. I told him the owner was on
his way. John told his dispatch that the owner got here before he did so there
wouldn't be a charge to the owner. John, super nice. He was in Afghanistan with
K-9 Corps as a contractor, not military. Good person! Then he left and Jacob
showed up. Also a nice person. Had been in military as MP, from Missouri, loves
living in rural Oregon. Said goodbye to Smoke.
Yesterday was cold and gloomy, like today. Natch I wanted to
pressure wash the back patio on Monday when it was sunny and warm, but didn't
feel so hot, so planned it for yesterday... that didn't pan out because of the
cold day.
The geese showed up and making sure the turkeys were busy somewhere else, I
fed them. Then a while later I heard a quacking... There was Mrs. Mallard! Mr.
Mallard must be keeping the eggs warm on the nest.... I gave her something to
eat..
She started walking away when I went out there and then I called her, "here
duckie duckie" and she waddled over to me.
The geese were up on the hill... the Mrs. was munching grass while the
Mr. was keeping an eye out...
If you have Venice Italy on your bucket list or if you have
been there already.. this video is super neat. Shows the city like many of us
have never seen before.
