Frozen ~ Clouds ~ NFL Arrests ~ Buttermilk Pie ~ Mexican Word of the Day ~ Grandson Jack ~ Fire Prevention Day

Good burrrrr 31º clear morning. Barn roof covered with ice.

Yesterday we got some clouds. By noon it was still only 63º. By 3pm we had warmed to 73º!

So, not only has the NFL pissed plenty of people off with their disrespect of our flag, anthem, and country, but here are interesting stats ....

Do you like Southern food? Here is a SUPER GOOD and easy Buttermilk Pie....

Ingredients:
1 refrigerated pie crust
1½ cups sugar
3 T all purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
3 eggs
1 t. vanilla extract
½ stick butter, melted
½ t. ground cinnamon
1. Preheat oven to 425º. Place pie crust in 9" pie plate and flute edges. Set aside.
2. In large bowl whisk sugar, flour, and buttermilk. Add eggs, vanilla, and butter. Whisk until thoroughly combined.
3. Pour into pie shell. Sprinkle evenly with cinnamon.
4. Bake 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 325º and continue baking 35-40 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out dry.

October 9th
Fire Prevention Day

Date When Celebrated : Always on October 9 th. Fire prevention week is during the week in which  October 9th falls.
According to legend, on October 8, 1871, Mrs. O'Leary was in her barn, milking her cow. The cow kicked over a lamp, which started the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The fire burned for over 27 hours. When it was over,  more than 300 people were killed, 100,000 people were left homeless, and over 17,000 structures were destroyed.
The Great Chicago fire sparked major efforts in fire prevention.  Forty years later, the Fire Marshall's Association of North America(FMANA) held the first Fire Prevention Day. In 1920 , President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Fire Prevention Week.
The Saturday during Fire Prevention Week is Fire Service Recognition Day.
Did You Know? Dalmatians became fire dogs because they were often kept around the horses at fire houses to guard them.
