~ May Day ~ Gloom Then Sun ~ Chicken Kiev ~ Old Things ~ Leta Baertschiger ~

Good 38º clear sunny morning! HAPPY MAY DAY!

Can you believe it's May already???

Yesterday morning the gloom was depressing.
(That black spot in the sky is a goose flying by)

Although, the rain still abated, so I got out the riding lawnmower and then we had SUN!!!
I mowed the front yard, while the two geese sat on the barn roof honking at me the whole time!, picked up some tree fall. That was it, the back was screamin'. Had a pretty pile of flowers that had to be mowed.... pretty, wish they had grown in the garden, not the grass!

Dude was happy I was out and he kept an eye on me.....

 We warmed to 73º. Nice!

Boy, that sunshine certainly does a lot for improving your mood. The gloom had gotten everyone depressed!

Later for dinner I baked an Omaha Steaks Chicken Kiev and a stuffed baked potato...

Olive oil mayonnaise with cracked pepper was the dipping sauce.
OMGOOOOD!!!!

A friend sent an email with a lot photos of  "old stuff" and I found the ones I have...

I have one of these egg slicers... somewhere!

Here's my cracker tin, grater, butter slicer, and peeler................

I had a great long talk with my pal Karen aka Sugar Bear. Her daughter in law lost her life a couple weeks ago after being hit by a semi on I-5.

The service was on Saturday. Karen's son is an Oregon State Senator. All of the Senators attended as well as Congressman Walden and the Oregon Governor Kate Brown. RIP Leta. Love and good thoughts to your Herman and sons.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

National Chocolate Parfait Day

  1. Dark chocolate has more antioxidants than green tea and just as many as blueberries.
  2. White chocolate really isn’t chocolate. It’s made from cocoa butter, the substance you get by pressing cocoa beans. Cocoa butter is absent of the cocoa solids used to make chocolate.
  3. Chocolate was consumed by the ancient Aztecs as a frothy beverage, somewhat like hot chocolate we drink today.
  4. Chocolate comes from a plant, called Theobroma cacao, which translates “Food of the Gods”.
  5. Eating chocolate can also reduce the symptoms of stress.
Parfait is the French word for 'perfect'. It is the original French sundae. It was made with a custard base ice cream flavored with fruit purée and whipped with a lot of air to a delicate texture. Ice cream was not scooped, but pre-frozen in individual serving containers, typically the long tapered parfait glasses. In America a parfait became a particular type of sundae, different from the French one. An American parfait layers syrup and other garnishes between layers of ice cream, instead of adding them all on top.
