Herd of Deer ~ Baby Turkeys ~ Banana Split Cake

Good 45º morning. Probably topped out at 85º yesterday. Nice.
PatC came over and got the vacuum. She needed it for her "spare" house...  Then the pest guy, Benjamin, showed up and started the elimination process of Mr. Mole ..or Golpher... whichever. I checked the water in the batteries in my golf card. OMG, all cells were empty. "Someone" likes me, because it was still running fine. Sigh... all filled up now. Then Maggs and I went to the mail later.... Saw Big D's car there so he is home from Spokane. Adelle suggested using the wonton wrappers as raviolis. Hmmmm... good idea. Will stuff them with cheese and try. Also Edda suggested filling them with cooked ground beef, brushing the wontons with oil and baking them crispy.
Here is a picture of the new Texas rain gauge....
Is this what you are using Dan? Or at least hoping to use it???
In the morning we had a whole herd of deer in the backyard.

I lit my candle last night from 8-11pm in honor of the fallen soldiers.

I fell asleep in my chair, woke close to 11. Went to bed and turned on the news. Then still somewhat awake I tried to watch Leno. Sometimes he's as big a jerk as Letterman. So switched the channel to see who was on Letterman. The word "feckless" jumped into my mind. Turned off the TV and went to sleep.
Historically this date....
1929Babe Ruth becomes the first baseball player to hit 500 home runs in his career with a home run at League Park in Cleveland, Ohio.
1934 – The first civilian prisoners arrive at the Federal prison on Alcatraz Island.
1965 – Race riots (the Watts riots) begin in the Watts area of Los Angeles, California.
.... Living in Paramount at the time, right across the LA River/Long Beach Fwy and about 2 miles from the center of the riots... it was scary!!! We had a second story apartment and could see the fires from our balcony. The poleece were stationed at the freeway over crossings to keep the rioters from coming into Paramount. Thank God!
And births this date include...
1902 – Lloyd Nolan, American actor (d. 1985)

Here is a 40 year old cake recipe using bananas, Jell-O gelatine and pudding and whip topping:
Banana Split Cake ... or possibly Tupperware 1 2 3 Cake
9x13 pan
1 prepared angel food cake, tore into bite size pieces
1 (3 oz) boxes of strawberry gelatin, prepared per box instructions, do not chill
3 - 4 bananas
1 (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding
1 (8 oz) carton whipped topping
1/4 c. chopped nuts, optional
Place a layer of angel food cake pieces in bottom of the pan. Pour the just made Jell-O over the cake and using a spatula, press it down evenly so the cake absorbs the Jell-O. Put a layer of sliced bananas over it. Cover and chill until Jell-O is set. (About 1 1/2 hrs). Make the pudding per box instructions and spread over cake/Jell-O/banana mixture. Top with another layer of bananas then whipped topping. Sprinkle nuts on top if desired. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
But................... here is the one I made...

Banana Split Cake
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
5 T melted butter
2 cups powdered sugar
2 egg whites
1 stick butter
4 bananas
1 large can crushed pineapple, drained
1 large container Cool Whip
Maraschino cherries
Mix cracker crumbs with melted butter and pat into 9x13 pan. Mix sugar, egg whites, and softened stick of butter in mixer, beat 10 minutes. Pour over crust. Next, split bananas lengthwise and lay over the batter. Pour drained pineapple over bananas. Cover with large container of Cool Whip. Sprinkle on nuts and cherries and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Baby turkeys here this morning...
All I know. Nuff said. Ciao.

Presidential Joke Day
Presidents have a sense of humor, too. Many people believe this is a day to make jokes about the president. On the contrary, this day is for presidents to make a joke.
On this day in 1984, President Ronald Reagan made a doozie. On August 11, 1984, just before his regular Saturday radio address, President Ronald Reagan was doing a voice test with the microphone. He thought the microphone and the feed was not live.
He joked into the microphone: "My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five minutes." To his surprise, he was speaking to a live feed!
This incident led to the creation of "Presidential Joke Day". However, we don't think American presidents will make it a habit to perform jokes on, or to, the American public on this day, or any other.
Of course our current President is nothing but a joke!
