Weather ~ Turkeys ~ TBT ~ Football ~ Brady & Lua ~ Jet Over Golden Gate ~ Fried Rice

Good 55º cloudy and more rain coming morning. Rain started in the evening here yesterday. Jeannie said it rained all day in Grants Pass. Funny what a 10 mile difference can make for weather. No rain until late and then on and off all night. Got just over 1/4".
The sun never came out yesterday and warmed to 61º.
The turkeys were out and about... they were happy it wasn't raining.....

Throw Back Thursday...

Historically this date....
42 BC – Roman Republican civil warsSecond Battle of Philippi – Mark Antony andOctavian decisively defeat Brutus's army. Brutus commits suicide.

1915 – Woman's suffrage: In New York City, 25,000-33,000 women march on Fifth Avenue to advocate their right to vote.

... Unimaginable the thumb that men put women under and forbade their input in elections! ... As well as many many jobs!! Grrrrr.... don't get me started!

1929 – The first North American transcontinental air service begins between New York Cityand Los Angeles, California.

1942 – All 12 passengers and crewmen aboard an American Airlines DC-3 airliner are killed when it is struck by a U.S. Army Air Forces bomber near Palm Springs, California. Amongst the victims is award-winning composer and songwriter Ralph Rainger ("Thanks for the Memory", "Love in Bloom", "Blue Hawaii").

2001 – Apple announces the iPod.
And births this date include...

1925 – Johnny Carson, American television host (d. 2005)
Boy, he was a favorite! Funny man.

1956 – Dwight Yoakam, American singer

Keep the hat on, boy!

1959 – Nancy Grace, American former prosecutor
.... she's a little "out there"....weird. Read about her!  What a big mouth! "Grace" is not her tude!

1962 – Doug Flutie, American football player
..played for a lot of different NFL teams and is now a drummer in the "Flutie Bros Band". !!!

1976 – Ryan Reynolds, Canadian actor
The Blue Angels were practicing for the Fleet Week in SF and a bystander caught this awesome photo...

I went into town to put a check in the bank, pick up a package at the post office and while there ran into one of the Marine Corps League guys and bought a raffle ticket from him. It's a fund raiser for our league. The prize is $700 at Sportman's Warehouse. Then to the market for celery and a carrot, tomatoes, and green onions.
Dinner was a "what's in the fridge and cupboard" fried rice. Using the left over salmon and mushrooms from the night before I added a can of artichoke hearts (cut into quarters), green onions, celery, carrot, and 2 different kinds of rice.. basmati and jasmine. I cooked the rice in the rice cooker and let it cool. Next I chopped the celery and onion and put them in the pan with butter and olive oil. Cooked til nearly tender, then added in the grated carrot, chopped tomatoes, and left over mushrooms. Stir and cook until heated well.

Next in went the artichoke hearts and black olives and the salmon I broke up. Heat on low for about 30 minutes. Transfer to another pan to keep warm. Put olive oil in skillet and add cooled rice. Break up and stir. Adding more oil if needed. Cook on low for about 30 minutes. Add in the previously cooked veggies and salmon. Drizzle with soy sauce, my fav is Tabasco Soy Sauce. Spicy! Add in salt  and pepper to taste.

Don't forget the sunset solar eclipse today ... if you live where there is no cloud cover!!!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.
