Interesting about the thermos...........

A vacuum flask (also known as a Dewar flask, Dewar bottle or thermos) is an insulating storage vessel that greatly lengthens the time over which its contents remain hotter or cooler than the flask's surroundings. Invented by Sir James Dewar in 1892, the vacuum flask consists of two flasks, placed one within the other and joined at the neck. The gap between the two flasks is partially evacuated of air, creating a near-vacuum which significantly reduces heat transfer by conduction or convection. When used to hold cold liquids, this also virtually eliminates condensation on the outside of the flask.

Vacuum flasks are used domestically to keep beverages hot or cold for extended periods of time, and for keeping cooked food hot. They are also used for thermal cooking. Vacuum flasks are also used for many purposes in industry.

History

The vacuum flask was designed and invented by Scottish scientist Sir James Dewar in 1892 as a result of his research in the field of cryogenics and is sometimes called a Dewar flask in his honour. While performing experiments in determining the specific heat of the element palladium, Dewar made a brass chamber that he enclosed in another chamber to keep the palladium at its desired temperature. He evacuated the air between the two chambers, creating a partial vacuum to keep the temperature of the contents stable. Dewar refused to patent his invention, and the flask, as developed by others using new materials such as glass and aluminium, became a significant tool for chemical experiments and also a common household item.

Dewar's design was quickly transformed into a commercial item in 1904 as two German glassblowersReinhold Burger and Albert Aschenbrenner, discovered that it could be used to keep cold drinks cold and warm drinks warm and invented a more robust flask design, which was suited for everyday use. The Dewar flask design had never been patented but the German men who discovered the commercial use for the product named it Thermos, and subsequently claimed both the rights to the commercial product and the trademark to the name. In his subsequent attempt to claim the rights to the invention, Dewar instead lost a court case to the company. The manufacturing and performance of the Thermos bottle was significantly improved and refined by the Viennese inventor and merchant Gustav Robert Paalen, who designed various types for domestic use, which he also patented, and distributed widely, through the Thermos Bottle Companies in the United States, Canada and the UK, which bought licences for respective national markets. The American Thermos Bottle Company built up a mass production in Norwich, CT, which brought prices down and enabled the wide distribution of the product for at-home use. Over time, the company expanded the size, shapes and materials of these consumer products, primarily used for carrying coffee on the go and carrying liquids on camping trips to keep them either hot or cold. Eventually other manufacturers produced similar products for consumer use.

The term "thermos" became a household name for vacuum flasks in general. As of 2023, Thermos and THERMOS remains a registered trademark in some countries, including the United States, but the lowercase "thermos" was declared a genericized trademark by court action in the United States in 1963.

All I know. Nuff said. Have a good Wednesday. Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

Observed every year on May 24th, Brother’s Day honors the brothers in our lives. Whether we have one or many, our brothers hold a special place in our hearts. Even if for those who don’t have brothers, someone in their life is usually like a brother to them. Brothers from other mothers are found in a best friend, a brother-in-law, or a cousin. They are the men in our lives we count on even when we don’t talk very often. We share memories, challenges that frequently began with the phrase, “Watch this!” soon followed by a few stitches.
While minding their own business, they are also prepared to step in when necessary. That’s what brothers do.
Of course, they’ve been known to put toads on your head or gum in your hair.  They may have been too cool for you once, too.  Brothers come in many shapes and sizes and so do their relationships. Whatever yours is, take the time to celebrate your brother on Brother’s Day.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Enjoy time with brothers and reminisce.  Find time for new brother siblings to spend some fun, enjoyable time together.

BROTHER’S DAY HISTORY

C. Daniel Rhodes of Alabama founded Brother’s Day.

7 Sets of Famous Brothers – According to Biblical history, the first siblings on earth were a pair of brothers. You may have heard the story of Adam and Eve’s sons, Cain and Abel. You might have also heard that it didn’t end well for the first brothers in human history. According to the book of Genesis, Cain murdered Abel, and then lied to God about it. Thankfully, most brothers avoid taking sibling rivalry to this level. Many brothers get along quite well, like these seven sets of famous brothers.
1. The Wright Brothers
Wilbur Wright was born near Millville, Indiana, in 1867. Four years later, his brother, Orville, was born in Dayton, Ohio. Famously known as the Wright brothers, the two invented the first motor-operated airplane. Not only were they the first to find success in motorized flight, but they also built and flew the first one. The flight took place on December 17, 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
2. The Brothers Grimm
Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm, born in 1863, and Wilhelm Carl Grimm, born in 1859, are better known as the Brothers Grimm. The German academics collected and published folklore during the 19th century. They didn’t actually write fairy tales, however. Instead, they are credited for preserving and putting to paper the many oral stories that were passed down from generation to generation. Some of these fairy tales include Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretal, and Little Red Riding Hood.
3. The Marx Brothers
Chico, Harpo, Groucho, Gummo, and Zeppo were the stage names of the five brothers who made up the famous comedy act known as the Marx Brothers. The brothers were born in New York City to Jewish immigrants from Germany and France. From 1905 to 1949, the Marx Brothers found success in a theatrical genre called vaudeville. They performed on Broadway and in motion pictures.
4. Peyton and Eli Manning
The Manning brothers are among the greatest sets of siblings in sports history. Their dad was NFL quarterback, Archie Manning. Peyton Manning was born in 1976 and won two Super Bowls. He played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. Eli Manning was born in 1981 and spent his entire career with the New York Giants. Like his brother, Eli also won two Super Bowls.
5. Liam and Chris Hemsworth
The Hemsworth brothers are both actors from Australia. Chris Hemsworth was born in 1983. He has appeared in many movies but is best known for his role as Thor in the Avengers movies. Chris is one of the highest-paid actors in the world. His younger brother, Liam, was born in 1990. Among other films, Liam starred in The Last Song, where he met famous singer and actress, Miley Cyrus. Their marriage ended after just one year.
6. Prince William and Prince Harry
Prince William and Prince Harry are the sons of Charlies, Prince of Wales, and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. William was born on June 21, 1982, and is second in the line of succession to the British throne. Prince William is married to Catherine (Kate) Middleton. They have three children. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, is a little more complicated than his elder brother. Harry was born on September 15, 1984. In 2018, he married American actress Meghan Markle. They have one child. In 2020, the couple announced they were leaving the Royal family. Harry and Meghan currently reside in Canada.
7. The Jonas Brothers
If you’re a pop music fan, you have likely heard of Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas. They formally formed their group, the Jonas Brothers, in 2005. At the time, Kevin was 17, Joe was 15, and Nick was 12 years old. Since their formation, the trio of brothers have toured the world, sold millions of albums, won multiple music awards, and have appeared in film and television.
