Fires ~ Doe ~ Coyote ~ Girl's Lunch ~ Scotch Day

Good 54º clear morning. Only 100.3 here. Hotter in GP.... on a cooling trend now, so looking at the 80º's hopefully now for a while.

A line of thunderstorms went through our 5 southern Oregon counties on Thursday night igniting some 80 fires, most of which were contained to 10 or less acres. A power outage in Jeannie and Bill's area had them worried, but it was restored earlier than anticipated, before dark and I'm sure they were ready for the AC to kick back on! Over 1300 had no power. By 7pm the sunset was filled with smoke from the fires...
While I was taking pictures a doe passed by... on her way to my apple tree no doubt! And Mr. Coyote was on the prowl down by the barn...

The fire retardant dropping planes passed overhead all day long. My property is apparently in the path between Grants Pass and the Medford Airport.... must be the big red barn they eyeball as a visual aid for lining up to the airport...
Funny, as our house in Temple City was in the landing pattern for El Monte airport! I always suspected it was the HUGE oak tree out in front that was their visual aid.

RETRACTION... the video of the plane losing a wing and landing safely was a fake. A couple pilot friends of mine (Dale and Dee Y.) and a ret LASD (Ed C.) explained that it was shot with a remote control model airplane and then panned to the real plane at the end. Darn. Looked real to me. Sorry.....

Yesterday was fun. A group of us gals met at Musashi for lunch.

L-R Dee Yellin, me, Nancy Perry, Tonnie Gay, Jennifer Murphy, and Donna Walsh. LOL, we never quit talking! Such a great group of friends.

(Oh boy!) National Scotch Day

National Scotch Day
The first written record of Scotch whisky originates from around the time Columbus sailed to the Americas. But the distilled spirit of Celtic origin probably evolved from earlier, more primitive efforts at producing grain alcohol.
This year on National Scotch Day, pay a little more for a premium single malt, well aged, and taste for yourself why this nifty beverage might be Scotland's greatest export!
  • Scotch can only have this name if it has been distilled and matured in Scotland. It is protected under international law in the same way that Champagne and other regional specialities are protected.
  • Scotch comes in two varieties, grain and malt.
  • Single Grain whiskies are blended with single Malt whiskies to make a blended product - the branded products you buy in the shops. The characteristics of single Grains are as individual as those of Single Malt whiskies.
  • Single Malt whiskies are sold under the name of their particular distillery, and are the aristocrats for drinkers
  • If you want to know more about the history of Scotch follow this link
  • And if you want to brew some yourself, this is Whisky, how to make it
Since I am Scotch, I will drink some Scotch!
