Fall ~ Pumpkin Soup ~ Brian ~ Dentist-Elks-Rue 26

Good 39º morning. ICE on the barn roof! Must be Fall. Ya think?

10-1 in radio code means "receiving poorly"......

I've got my first Halloween decoration up....
At the Halloween store I found these peel and stick faces for pumpkins. This way I can cook it later and make pumpkin soup....

Pumpkin Soup

1 med size pumpkin
8oz cream cheese
yellow or red or green bell peppers
3 med potatoes
1 large sweet onion, diced
chicken stock
1 stick butter
salt and pepper
Sauté diced onions and bell peppers in the bottom of your soup pot. When soft and translucent add diced potatoes and cut up skinned pumpkin. Cover with chicken stock. cook on med heat until all veggies are soft. Blend until smooth. Put soup back into pot and add cream cheese. Stir until cheese is melted. Taste and salt and pepper and butter. Cook another 30 minutes. If too thick add more chicken stock. Serve with crusty bread.

This marks a special day... my Brian has been operating his State Farm Office for 6 years now. GO BRIAN!!

Historically this date...
1880 – John Philip Sousa becomes leader of the United States Marine Band.

1890 – Yosemite National Park is established by the U.S. Congress.

1908 – Ford puts the Model T car on the market at a price of US$825.

1910 – Los Angeles Times bombing: A large bomb destroys the Los Angeles Times building in downtown Los Angeles, California, killing 21.

1957 – First appearance of In God We Trust on U.S. paper currency.

1979 – The United States returns sovereignty of the Panama canal to Panama.

1987 – The Whittier Narrows earthquake shakes the San Gabriel Valley, registering asmagnitude 5.9.

Scary. Everything in my kitchen cupboards rattled. Kristen heading to college classes and Brian to high school felt as if their cars were hit by another vehicle. Sandy's chimney fell down.

And births this date include...
1909 – Sam Yorty, American politician (d. 1998)
... could not say Los Angeles (los an-gel-less) he said "Las Angle-lees". Sheesh. Like my New York friend who says "Ory-gone" !!!! Encyclopedia says "orr-ə-gən " LOL, I'll defend myself with a knife 'OR A GUN' !!!!! But then I knew people who pronounced Sepulveda as 'Spatch-a-doo-la'.  Good grief!

1910 – Bonnie Parker, American outlaw (d. 1934)

1920 – Walter Matthau, American actor (d. 2000)

...Here is just another idiotic injustice of giving out the Nobel Peace Prize. I can't even go there without spewing my lowest thoughts of the most recent President to get one. WHAT the heqq did they do to earn it? Nothing!

1927 – Tom Bosley, American actor (d. 2010)

1928 – George Peppard, American actor (d. 1994)
.... Two pack a day smoker, died young, lung cancer!

1935 – Julie Andrews, British actress and singer

1936 – Stella Stevens, American actress

Yikes!

1945 – Spider Sabich, American skier (d. 1976)
......shot and killed by Claudine Longet.... she had been married to Andy Williams.

1950 – Randy Quaid, American actor
Yikes again!

1963 – Mark McGwire, American baseball player
.... I have the milk ad picture hanging in a cupboard! Yumm... he was nice to watch. Great guns!

Yesterday a trip to the dentist who did my root canal. Technically it's called 'Endodontics'.  It has not gotten any better, still sensitive to hot and cold. Well, found out that tooth with the root canal is fine but it's the tooth next to it that is cracked and sensitive. So... another root canal. Oh joy.

Then to the Elk's Lodge and find out why GloW's husband John did not get his money back when he refused to join the lodge. The ER was really rude to him. Made him wait 1½ hours for his interview. Then...... because it was Billi (female bartender we all loved and was fired by the ER, Gerry .. a female in a man's position!) who sponsored him, the ER got insulting. I walked in and Dee and Kathy were there. Laura, the secretary wasn't there, only the ER and I didn't want to talk to her! Will go back another day.

Then to Rue 26 ... http://www.roux26.com/
to meet up with old high school friend Mike Bastian and his beautiful Laurie. Mike knows Tom Marshall (LAPD ret) and he joined us. More on this restaurant and my friends tomorrow.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

World Vegetarian Day encourages us all to eat our vegetables and fruits. Countless studies have proven that a diet filled with fruits and vegetables is good for our health. Vegetarians, have taken this path either for their health, or from a conviction that they should not eat, and therefore, kill animals.
A vegetarian, by definition, eats no meat. That includes fish and other forms of seafood. Bottom line is, a vegetarian eats no animal. Their diet consists of plants....fruits and vegetables. They are ethically and morally opposed to killing animals for food.  They are also against poor treatment of animals at farms ad slaughterhouses.
