Blue Sky!!!! ~ Throw Back Thursday ~ Rico Suáve ~ Smoke Covered Areas ~ Funny Town Names ~ Edda Gahm ~ Replace Columbus Day

Good 48º somewhat smokey, few clouds, morning. Best air in awhile! Actual blue sky!!!

Yesterday we topped at 90º.  100+º predicted for this weekend.

Happy Throw Back Thursday....
Me 5th grade with my teacher Mrs. Rector at Sierra Park Grammar School...
She was a wonderful woman!

Breakfast yesterday was some of that super good melon from 7 Oaks Farm, a couple of the Blueberry Biscuits from TJ's, and a microwaved egg with Parmesan cheese...

My daughter Kristen is fostering this little, in need of a home, Chihuahua she named Rico Suáve. So adorable!

This is what we have been breathing....

Near the bottom of the map is the Oregon/California border. Written on the blue of the Pacific near the bottom is the town of Brookings. Right above is Gold Beach. If you look directly to the right of those towns, about 2 inches on the map, you see almost hidden in the red is Medford. We are just 30 miles west of Medford.

This is funny, a town in Texas is called Earth. So when someone asks one of the residents there, "where are you from"..... the answer is "earth" !!!! I thought that was hilarious. There are a number of strangely named towns in this country... one in California is Dunmovin! and Bummerville! Here in Oregon there is Drain. Also in Oregon is Boring! I dated a guy named Bob Boring!  Shoot, in Alabama there is a town called Intercourse! In Wisconsin, Spread Eagle! WHAAAAA???? Colorado had a town named Climax! Florida town of Wahoo! New York has Butts Corner! and Arizona two towns, Nothing and Why! Here's the entire list:

Today is a very special birthday, my pal Edda Gahm. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRLFRIEND!

I hope your day is super special! xoxox

Ok, one more thing that new generations and left-wingers are doing that pisses me off...
Just on the news ... more people have died in Louisiana from Harvey, 35 as of now, than in Texas! Prayers for all those suffering.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.

https://foodimentary.com/2016/08/31/august-31-national-trail-mix-day-2/

Here are today’s five thing to know about Trail Mix:
  1. Trail mix is a combination of dried fruit, grains, nuts, and sometimes chocolate, developed as a snack food to be taken along on outdoor hikes.
  2. Trail mix is considered an ideal snack food for hikes, because it is tasty, lightweight, easy to store, and nutritious, providing a quick boost from the carbohydrates in the dried fruit and/or granola, and sustained energy from the mono- and polyunsaturated fats in nuts.
  3. Many claim that trail mix was first invented in 1968 by two California surfers who blended peanuts and raisins together for an energy snack.
  4. However, trail mix is also mentioned in Jack Kerouac’s 1958 novel The Dharma Bums as the two main characters describe their planned meals in their preparation for a hiking trip.
  5. The recipe for trail mix is most likely European in origin, where it has been known as a snack under various names  in various countries since the 17th century.

Disgusting Smoke ~ Momma Deer & Bambi ~ Dr. Brian Morrison ~ Megan ~ Trader Joe's ~ 7 Oaks Farm ~ Bruiser ~ Sunset

Good 52º icky smokey morning. This will go on for quite awhile!

Smoke was horrible again yesterday. My mountain completely disappeared!

 We hit 97º.

I had some visitors at the water tubs .... momma and Bambi...

Yesterday was my annual doc visit with my cardiologist Dr. Brian Morrison down in Medford.

Driving there the smoke was disgusting...
His nurse assistant, Megan, was super! Really like her. She gave me an EKG. It came back fine. Yeah!

As far as the exam, Doc Brian checked everything and said lungs were clear and all good. He does want me on my stationary bicycle more often. And yes, I can drink wine while riding! (giggle) Anyway, I am good to go for another year! Thanks Doctor Brian!!!

Then a quick stop at Trader Joe's for a case of wine (naturally) and some extra goodies...

... a basil plant for my kitchen window, Blue Berry Breakfast Biscuits (OMGOOOD), TJ's Sriracha Ranch Dressing, Gnocchi (mmmmmm), some of TJ's great "made in Italy" tortellini with pesto filling, and "Trader Giotto's" Pomodoro Sauce (made from imported Italian tomatoes and 3 cheeses).

Then to 7 Oaks Farm in Central Point...

I got 4 ears of their super good corn on the cob, a big fat melon, and an eggplant. Super good produce there and great prices... only $4 for this:

https://foodimentary.com/2016/08/30/august-30-national-toasted-marshmallow-day-2/

Here are today’s five thing to know about Marshmallow:
  1. This confection is the modern version of a medicinal confection made from Althaea officinalis, the marshmallow plant.
  2. Not all marshmallows are vegan, most marshmallows contain eggs or animal based gelatin.
  3. The marshmallow is a confection that, in its modern form, typically consists of sugar, corn syrup, water, gelatin that has been softened in hot water, dextrose, vanilla flavorings, and sometimes coloring, whipped to a spongy consistency.
  4. The marshmallow probably first came into being as a medicinal substance, since the mucilaginous extracts comes from the root of the marshmallow plant, Althaea officinalis, which were used as a remedy for sore throats.
  5. Concoctions of other parts of the marshmallow plant had medical uses as well.
In regards to S'mores....
