Good 33º morning. It's gloomy now with fog but
yesterday the SUN CAME OUT!!! Yeah!
Took Maggs to the vets and he wants to do a test for Cushings Disease. The test kit has to come from Denver and the test samples are sent to Tennessee. She will have to spend the day at the vets, as they have an 8 hour window between the first blood draw, a shot, and the second blood draw. He has already tested her for kidney, liver, diabetes, and something else....
"Symptoms: Symptoms of Cushing's disease can be vague and varied and tend to appear gradually and progressively. It is thus easy to mistake Cushing's disease for normal aging. Additionally, many of the clinical symptoms are not unique to Cushing's and could reflect a number of other health concerns.
The most common symptoms include: (I have marked Maggie's symptoms)
• increased/excessive water consumption
(polydipsia) X
• increased/excessive urination (polyuria) X
• urinary accidents in previously housetrained dogs
• increased/excessive appetite (polyphagia)
• appearance of food stealing/guarding, begging,
trash dumping, etc.
• sagging, bloated, pot-bellied appearance X
• weight gain or its appearance, due to fat
redistribution X
• exercise intolerance, lethargy, general or
hind-leg weakness
• new reluctance to jump on furniture or people
• excess panting, seeking cool
surfaces to rest on X
• symmetrically thinning hair or baldness (alopecia) on torso
• other coat changes like dullness, dryness
• slow regrowth of hair after clipping X
(Noticeable where her baboon butt was shaved in
Dec. Hair hasn't grown back)
I know that thrilled you reading all of that. This is the least common of diseases dogs get. Naturally. So, she'll have this done probably next week.
Then we went to Grants Pass to Brian's office. He got pig ears and light bulbs (Costco stuff) and I got a long sleeved red shirt with STATE FARM on the front. Advertising for my boy! Stopped at the post office and mailed off a bunch of people photos I found that were about 20-30 years old. Thought they folks I sent them to would enjoy. I didn't stop and see the geese and ducks, as Maggie was ready to go home after sitting in the vet's office for 2 hours!
This is I-5 coming into Rogue River from Grants Pass...
After we got back home the sun was so nice and warm and Harley found a spot in it on a dining room chair...

.......Interesting side note, most everyone I have ever heard pronounce Delphi - says "Del-fi", but when I was in Greece in 2009 and went to Delphi... the Greeks pronounce it "Del-fee".

1896 – George Burns, American actor, comedian (d. 1996)
Never could stand her acting or her voice!
Remember when he'd slowly fall over on his tricycle on Laugh-In? I did that on my Harley once. Stalled it in the beginning of a turn from a stop and
s-l-o-w-l-y fell over! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
She must not have gotten old, there are no pictures of her except for when she was young and beautiful.
1968 – Melissa Rivers, American reporter and actress

Speaking of the big mouth Joan Rivers.. this story surfaced...
"Joan Rivers says FOX News can "go f**k themselves" after canceling her Thursday appearance on the network's morning show for what she claims is retaliation for some biting comments she made about FOX contributor Sarah Palin.
Why so riled up, Joan? It all started when the loud-mouthed legend told TMZ over the weekend that critics were "right" to blame Sarah Palin for the tragedy in Tucson, Ariz. Reports surfaced on Wednesday that FOX heard the diss and nixed Joan and daughter Melissa's visit on 'FOX & Friends.'"

Can't think of another word to describe Rivers other than "beeotch"! Well, ignorant also comes to mind!
After I put down Paul Rodriguez in yesterday's blog, I received two of his jokes from an old pal, Dan, in Texas.......
These made me laugh!! Very politically incorrect too! LOL

"We have cable in East L.A. - Jumper Cable!"
"I was in the grocery store and two women were speaking Chinese. I told them, 'This is America; speak Spanish!' "
Interesting clouds in the sky yesterday afternoon....
It looks like an eagle following another .....
But in the cloud that looks like another bird in flight there was this
little kitty face!
Somebody up there is watching me!!!!
This one runs from the pond way up in the trees all the way through my property, through Frank and Cindy's, and through Dave and PJ's. Then it dumps out into the ditch along the road. One year, I'm thinking 1999 or 2000, it was up over the banks, you could kayak in it, and it washed out some of the road at the culverts.
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Thursday. Ciao.
Well, one more thing, this site has a mind of it's own and
won't straighten out the people having birthdays and they are all jumbled up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....................

January 20th
Penguin Awareness Day
Penguin Awareness Day, and World Penguin Day are great opportunities to learn about and appreciate one of the few natives of Antarctica. On these days, spend a little time learning about them.... a pictorial book or internet site is fun. You can also watch a documentary of these cute and popular, grounded birds.
These days are also a time to wear black and white---penguin colors. However, wearing a tuxedo in their honor is optional. It is also popular today to tell a penguin joke or two.

Well, I took little Sable to the vet many years ago because she had a lot of the same symptoms as you listed. She had the blood work and thyroid was her problem. I have great pictures of floral arrangements I made yesterday. Took tamales to Riverside and the guys at Mayesh gave me a deep discount on the flowers I picked up. I'll send them to you in an e-mail. Today it is so very windy. The news said the strongest winds were in Fontana ... our trash went over once, but now it is still, so I put them up again. Take care, Sarah signing off.
I look forward to your pictures. Tamales...........mmmmmmmm!
Happy Anniversary!!!! xo
Thanks Sue for the info on Cushings Disease. I've never heard of it, but good to know that it exists since we have four dogs.
We think our oldest dog had a slight stroke yesterday. By her symptoms, which my wife Tanya looked up on the internet, it was exactly what she read about. Something always happens to our dogs when she is at home alone with them, never when I am there with her. I felt bad for my wife, although there wasn't anything I could do. The dog is fine now, the symptoms didn't last long.
By the way, I can't stand that woman you talked about this morning. I won't even mention her name. Yes, she has a big mouth and sticks her foot into it too often.
Have a good day,
John
Wish it could be January 2nd. Could use some extra days this month to stay "on track".
I hope in 2011 Joan Rivers will spend a bit more time on introspection. Having grounded her career in biting comedy- if the story is true -she is old enough to know when to hold her venom. If for no other reason than to help jewelry sales. I don't own any of hers- but have admire her collection.
Will keep an eye out for penguins. If they show up here they are more lost than the mountain lion was.
LOVE the cloud formations. Here's to looking up.
Sue,
When I saw that first pic of the clouds I immediately thought it looked like an eagle or two. Very pretty!
Years ago John and I saw Rivers perform in person on stage in Las Vegas. I will never forget the funniest joke she told. It was soon after Princess Ann got married. Joan said "The Queen had to throw a bone down the aisle to get her married" LOL LOL My thoughts at the time exactly! What a dog Ann was. Sorry dogs!
That woman, Joan, does have a big mouth. I watched the season of The Apprentice when she and her daughter were on. Lordy did that woman get nasty, especially when anyone would criticize daughter Melissa.
I'm with you! I never cared for Patricia Neal either. I do remember yrs ago when she was in a deep coma and pg at the time. Miraculously she came out of it and the baby was delivered with no bad affects. Remember that?
Oh I do hope they are able to treat Maggie for whatever they find wrong.
Hugs, Trisha
Yes, click on Patricia Neal and read her story. Her coma was in 1965... and she had one baby killed when it's carriage was hit by a taxi. She had affairs and was quite the trollop. Interesting read. xo
