Weather ~ Omelette ~ Airport In The Sky ~ Laura Kath ~ Cod Bites ~ Turkeys ~ Sunset ~ Bagels

Good 64º dark cloudy morning.

Yesterday the weather stayed humid and warm, 95º, but no thunder storms here. All of them were to the east and in the Klamath Falls area. Over 240 lightening strikes!

This is not a happy morning for my Dude. He's going in for X-ray of his leg and hip as he is still limping. This means no breakfast. Sigh............
I'll spoil him when he gets home.

As for my breakfast yesterday.... a Schwans Ham & Cheese Omelette and a Pecan Cinnamon Roll. Both from frozen to microwaved done in 3 minutes! I also heated up some of that broccoli slaw & mushrooms.  OMGOOOD!!

One of my deputy pals sent me an email about scary airports and what the runways looked like. It reminded me of when Jerry and I would go to Catalina Island and do quarterly firearms qualifications with the island Deputies.

We'd leave from Aero Bureau with their shotguns to test at the island range. Sometimes we'd get a ride on a helicopter that landed right down in Avalon in that parking lot where the arrow is...

or a fixed wing that would land at the Airport In The Sky. Landing here is interesting as both ends of the runway start and stop at the edge and drops off down a steep hill and into the ocean!

The airport got it's name due to it's high elevation and is known for downdrafts and turbulence on approach. Since it drops off on both ends the center is raised. Pilots on one end can't see the other end! So, it's been named along with other "scariest U.S. airports" !!! And believe me, it is whether you are landing or taking off!

Special birthday today.....one of my travelin' pals, Laura Kath. We went to Greece and Turkey with a group....

Here she is with her BFF, my nephew's wife Melinda. Such a super fun trip that was!!!

                                  HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!!!! xoxo

Later dinner was Schwans breaded cod bites cooked in the Air Fryer... 400º 12 minutes and some of their green beans, microwaved 6 minutes.

SUPER good!!

While in the kitchen I saw a couple turkeys laying in the grass

I have lived here almost 20 years and see turkeys every day, but have never before seen them lay in the grass and rub their faces in the grass!! I had watered it earlier, so maybe they liked the cool feel.....

Sunset was pretty.....

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

National Bagelfest Day

Five Food Finds about Bagels

  1. Bagel history dates back to 1783, according to popular belief. They were created to honor King John III Sobieski of Poland, after he protected Austria’s people from an attack by Turkish invaders.  Rumor has it a local Austrian baker created the bagel in the shape of a stirrup to honor the renowned horseman, and named it a “beugel” (the Austrian word for stirrup).
  2. Bagels are the only bread that are boiled before baked. Once the bagel dough is shaped into a circle, they are dipped in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. After that, they are drained and baked for about 10 minutes.
  3. That little hole in the center isn’t just for looks. Rumor has it the age old “role with the hole” design is rather efficient! The bagel hole comes in handy to thread multiple bagels onto a dowel, making transport easily, especially for street vendors selling the doughy delights.
  4. Too busy to down breakfast and your morning cuppa Joe? Try combing your caffeine fix with your breakfast bite with a Buzzed Bagel! Molecular biologist Robert Bohannon created a bagel that actually contains the caffeine equivalent of one to two cups of coffee.
  5. Believe it or not, despite the myriad bagel flavors available from blueberry to the “everything” bagel, the most popular choice is plain, followed closely by sesame.

OMG I have never seen a photo of that landing strip. No jumbo jets landing there! LOL
I spent lots of time there in Catalina while John was in SEB and stationed there for two weeks every summer. A fun adventure!

You sure do eat a big breakfast. After vacation think I will check out Schwan's for their goodies. I am all for fast and easy! :)

Thank you for the warning on the Catalina Airstrip. Explains the cost of hopover from our port cities.

I have never made bagels. Maybe we should change that.

Happy air-frying.

I have never made bagels either L. I'm not much of a baker, so it's easier to just buy them! Air Frying is SUPER!!! xo
