Rain ~ Los Angeles 1949 ~ Robins ~ Passed Away in 2015 ~ Saturday/Sunday Football Playoff Games ~ Back Therapy ~ Spaghetti Et. Al. ~ Shades of Blue

Good drizzling dark cloudy morning. Rain started in the night and so far 1/5".

On this date in 1949 Los Angeles got snow! I remember it well. Our Christmas tree was in the backyard and covered with snow. I got up from my nap and was amazed. Played in the front yard happily until a neighbor boy came and threw a snowball at me! I cried. I was only 3 at the time! Daddy told him to "go home!". His name was Matthew!

Yesterday there were dozens and dozens of Robins in my pasture. Hard to get their pictures...

Are they confused? It's not Spring yet!!!

Yesterday was so filled over the top with excitement. Dishes, vacuuming, cleaning out the fridge, etc. Then my back therapy appointment with Stacy Thetford in RR. First she does an ultrasound massage, then a deep tissue massage then electrical nerve stimulation....
Afterwards I feel soooooooooooooooooo relaxed.

Last night I wanted to be creative in the kitchen.
Angel hair pasta, artichoke hearts, reconstituted dried mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, olive oil, baby spinach, shallot, garlic spread, celery..... butter and cream cheese!
Cooked and drained pasta. In the large pan I heated olive oil and garlic sauce. Sautéed the mushrooms, celery, and shallot. Added in the diced tomatoes, artichoke hearts. Stirred in the pasta and added in baby spinach. Then topped that with a couple pats of butter and some cream cheese...

Everything was stirred together and heated well...
   Oink oink oink.... AWESOMELY GOOD!

Later it was chair, wine, TV. I had recorded a new show, Shades of Blue two nights previous (there are several listings for the pilot at different times and channels) so watched it.

Jennifer Lopez plays the main character and Ray Liotta is her boss. It's all about police corruption and not following the laws.  I was very unhappy with the show. Now is not the time for showing police in a bad light!! And as far as Lopez's acting goes... not great, mediocre to fair. Will not waste my time with any more of the episodes.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday. Ciao.

January 9th
National Apricot Day

January 9th is National Apricot Day. We’re not sure why, since apricot season in the U.S. is from May through August (any fresh apricots found in the winter months have made a long trip from the southern hemisphere).
Yet, you can toast the day with an apricot brandy sour, have apricot jam on your toast or sandwich (cream cheese, goat cheese, ham, turkey), make a pork roast with dried apricots, or use the jam as filling in a Sacher Torte.

LOL- I was thinking the same thing about Apricot Day- but this time of year I miss not canning spiced apricots. And soaking dried apricots in brandy to serve with ham or pork roast. We used to have the best tree- but it didn't follow us in the move. Maybe now that we have rain again...

Bad timing (probably idea from what you wrote) on the Shades of Blue. One of my favorite officers of all-time worked Internal Affairs- knowing how seriously the department viewed misdeeds from within was both comforting and uplifting. But you are right, now is NOT the time for this angle to be spread over popular culture unless the production is genius in editorial- which is rarer than a Condor flying over downtown LA. Possible- but highly unlikely.

Take care of your back!

Mmmmm.... dried candied apricots soaked in brandy with a roast!! Drooling.

It would be ok if some of the corruption in this show was tethered by those not corrupt, but it isn't! Starts out with lies and falsehoods.

Thanks re back, will do! xo

Oh I so agree about the negative shows about cops. They have a target on their backs now from several different groups. They have taken to just walking up and blasting them. I do remember many years ago that it meant capital punishment if you kill an officer. Also for kidnapping. What happened to those laws?? Horrible!

I was happy to hear O'Reilly report than Quentin Taritino's new movie is not doing well at the box office. This is payback for his VILE speech against the police. HA!

Your dinner had me slobbering on my keyboard! :)

XO Trisha
