Clouds ~ TBT ~ Tommy & Peyton ~ Mt. Rainier ~ Humpback Whale Rescue ~ Bruiser ~ Marion's New England Clam Chowder

Good 39º cloudy morning. No fog! No rain predicted until tomorrow. Wow, two days without that wet stuff falling from the sky! Yeah! Some different clouds out there...

Throw Back Thursday
Me 2008 on NY-Nova Scotia cruise......

Yesterday was back therapy day, pick up packages at Post Office day, pick up prescriptions day. I got the new tags for my licence plates. Put the one on the back plate, but the front one is so low, and with my back, I couldn't get down there to unscrew the plate frame and put it on. I was going to ask Brian to help me with it the other day when I was at his office, but it was pouring rain. So yesterday I stopped at Ace and asked one of the hunky guys, Dan, to help me. He did it! Yes. Thank you Big D !!!

Historically this date...
1899 – Opel manufactures its first automobile.
............remember the Opel Kadett? What a weird little car!

1908 – New York City passes the Sullivan Ordinance, making it illegal for women to smoke in public, only to have the measure vetoed by the mayor.

1911 – The first Monte Carlo Rally takes place.

1968 – Vietnam WarBattle of Khe Sanh – One of the most publicized and controversial battles of the war begins.

1997 – Newt Gingrich becomes the first leader of the United States House of Representatives to be internally disciplined for ethical misconduct.
.........if you read the section on his ethics sanctions, sounds like they were all dropped for lack of any evidence of wrong doing and the IRS investigated the tax-exempt status of a class connected to Gingrich and all connected were cleared. AND....."the House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules". Sounds like a bunch of Democrats were pissed he was, after 40 years of Democrat rule in the house, the Republican speaker! Gee what a surprise that Democrats are liars!

1999 – War on Drugs: In one of the largest drug busts in American history, the United States Coast Guard intercepts a ship with over 4,300 kilograms (9,500 lb) of cocaine on board.

And births this date include....

January 21st
New England Clam Chowder Day

Here is my dear sweet late sister's recipe... soooo good!!!

Marion's Clam Chowder

4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
3 green onions and tops, chopped
5 medium potatoes, cut in small cubes (red is good with skin on)
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 carrot grated or cut up small
3 small stalks celery, chopped small
1 clove garlic, mashed or minced (I use 3!)
salt and pepper to taste
5 drops hot pepper seasoning (for more heat, leave bottle on table!)
1 T. Worchestershire
2 cups chopped clams
1 pint of 1/2 & 1/2 (use the fat free)
3 bottles clam juice

In large kettle cook bacon until crisp. Drain off most of the grease, then add the onions, potatoes, green pepper, celery, carrot, and garlic. Drain the clams, saving the juice. Set clams aside. Pour the juice from the clams and the bottles of clam juice into the pot, season with salt and pepper, add hot pepper and Worchestershire. Cover, bring to boil, lower heat and simmer until veggies are tender .... about 20 minutes. Add clams and 1/2 & 1/2. Stir and heat. Do not boil. Ladle into bowls. Add more vegetables and/or bacon... to your taste. Serves 4. This is not the 'thick' kind of chowder, it's lighter and thin. You can also add less clam juice and more clams if that's your preference. You could even add some boxed mashed potatoes to thicken it. Go slow with them.... add and test.

Good morning! Try to think of therapy day as spa day. I somehow think the puppies going to get groomed are getting the "better" spa day.

Placido Domingo- my children had a difficult time with my Spanish Opera phase. Music is like food. Necessary for life.

Have a GREAT day.
