Lightening Strikes ~ Storing Mushrooms ~ Rufus ~ Gar ~ Archie Bunker ~ Errands ~ Au Gratin Potato Balls

Good 55º wispy cloudy morning. Only supposed to be in the 80ºs today. The Bruise was up too early. I wanted to sleep some more, but he must have had hunting on his mind as he was out there first thing.. He was back in an hour and a half, thankfully without any critter!

Yesterday we hit 100º at 3pm.

With that storm waking me at 4am it made me a walking zombie the rest of the day. I almost fell asleep sitting at my desk! The report is there were over 300 bolts of lightening. It started 15 fires that were less than an acre.  Here is the Oregon Dept of Forestry site you can read the latest updates:
Watching the news last night they showed pictures of a few of the lightening strikes... (no too clear...off the TV!)

Here is another storage tip. Been doing this for years!

Problem: slimy mushrooms

Mushrooms are a delicious, hearty ingredient to use in everything from a chopped saladto a morning omelet to a stir-fry, but nothing is more unappetizing than reaching in for the vegetable and pulling out a slimy, mushy mess. To keep mushrooms meaty and fresh for as long as possible, it’s all about how you store them in your kitchen. When we get veggies home, it’s a habit to reach for plastic bags, but for mushrooms, paper should be your go-to. Plastic traps in moisture that causes mushrooms to mildew; opting for paper allows the vegetable to breathe and for moisture to escape, slowing the rate at which they begin to decay.

I got this from George Bachmeier (LASD ret) ... Archie Bunker. This is a riot!!!

Yesterday was my yearly visit to the skin doc, Dr. Schultz. I love this guy. He is fun and funny!

Everything looks good. No problems. So then went next door to the Marine Corps recruiting office next door and picked up a new USMC sticker for my car. Then to the RR Thrift Store

with some items for them to sell.. and next door to the Senior Center where I dropped off some items for their pantry. Last stop at Napa for a new gas can...

Dinner was some Omaha Steaks potato balls au gratin. They are made by baking potatoes and mashing the inside with sour cream, butter, onion powder, cream cheese, salt and pepper. Then making them into balls and rolling them in Parmesan cheese. Bake about 15-20 minutes. (Easier to buy ready made!)

I baked them almost too long. Fell asleep in my chair and didn't hear the buzzer they were done! YIKES. Anyway, they didn't burn. So cooked a couple eggs (in lemon olive oil and a bit of butter) and served them up with the potatoes topped with Siracha mayo and some tomatoes.
OMGOOOD!!!!

I shouldn't say this, but AOL was acting up so badly recently and I had to call them. I was frustrated like all my other friends who have AOL. It was constantly stopping and freezing. I guess with all the complaints they got they finally did fix something. It's been pretty good as of the last few days! (JINX!!!!)

All I know. Happy Hump Day. Nuff said. Ciao.

June 10th
National Ice Tea Day

Southerners like theirs sickeningly sweet. It tastes like 'tea syrup'! I like mine with lemon! Cheers!

May AOL keep working. It's been a rough year for computer users because the "rules" which keep us safe from hackers don't seem to be coordinated.

Our heat wave is usually 10 days behind yours- thank you for the seasonal warning!
