Rain ~ Super Bowl 49 ~ Trish & John ~ Groundhog Day

Good 46º raining afternoon. So far 3/4" since yesterday.   Yes!

Yesterday was Super Bowl Day and Brian always throws a party. "Mom, could you bring taquitos?" Sure.... made them yesterday morning and cooked them before heading to Brian and Jen's. Roll up some seasoned ground beef in soft tortillas (I warm mine in a towel in the microwave). I used www.Code3Spices.com Sea Dog Rub which is Cajun spices, paprika, and sea salt and No MSG,  to season the meat.   Stack them up and let sit for awhile while making the rest. Heat oil in frying pan and fry them. Drain on paper towels.
Then they went into the Crock Pot to keep warm.
Day before I made the guacamole. Out of 10 avocados, only one was bad. Cut each into quarters. (I know you may already know this!) They peel really easy this way. Peel from top down.
Put in bowl, mash with potato masher. Add Bob's Seasoning Salt, garlic sea salt, lime juice. Mix but do not make it runny smooth! Keep in some lumps.
Put in dish and drizzle top with lemon juice (to keep from turning brown) and refrigerate.
I also made some deviled eggs (Brian's fav) with just salt, pepper, and Best Foods.
Here is the Smilebox with a few pictures from yesterday...

Long day. Great food. Nice people. Finally got home at 9pm. All the kids had fun and Dana and Sami put on lots of costumes! We had a mixed group... Tucker and Sami had put drawings all around the house saying "Go Patriots" and a number of the folks were Seahawks fans. Of course you won't get this smile off my face for some time!

Today is a special anniversary... my friends John (LASD ret) and Trish Bowler are celebrating number 52! Happy Anniversary kids!

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is celebrated in the U.S. each year on February 2and. On this day in mid-winter, the groundhog awakens from a long winter's nap, and goes outside of his den to see if he sees his shadow. This tradition is big, on an otherwise cold and dreary mid-winter's day.
According to legend, if the groundhog sees his shadow (a sunny morning), there will be six more weeks of winter. He then returns to his den and goes back to sleep. If however, he does not see his shadow (cloudy days), he plays around outside of his hole for a while. If he does not see his shadow, spring is just around the corner.
The Groundhog's Day tradition travelled long ways. It comes from German roots. German immigrants brought the tradition with them from Germany. As they settled in hills of Pennsylvania, they began the tradition of using the Groundhog to predict the the arrival of Spring. The tradition is based upon Candlemas, the day that is the midpoint between Winter and Spring. A famous Candlemas poems goes:
If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Winter will not come again.
Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania is the site of the annual Ground Hog event. Our little rodent friend (yes, Groundhogs are classified as rodents) is called Punxsutawney Phil. He has been making this annual winter prediction since 1887. There are a few other "predictors" around the country, but they all pale in comparison to Phil's ability to predict the remainder of winter.
For the Record Phil sees his shadow about 9 out of 10 times

HE SAW HIS SHADOW today!

Thank you sweetie for the Happy Anniversary wishes and photos!
John just brought me a 2-lb box of See's Candy! yum yum!!

Awesome Smile Box slide show. Sami and her friend were a hoot with their costumes. Loved it! She has an Elsie dress like Isabella's.

Poor Farah. She was so beautiful and I tried for years to get my hair like hers.

So, Ina Garten's birthday is today. The Barefoot Contessa. One of my facorites.

Thank you! Enjoyed it!

XO Trisha
