Dogs vs Cats ~ Bruiser ~ Tucker Snowman Sami ~ Onion Soup

Good 13 freekin' degrees morning. Still no water. Still frozen pipes. Soooooo tired of this. Cranky. Very cranky!  I'm not going to be able to go to the Law Enforcement/Fire Christmas dinner tomorrow... with these freezing temps, driving at night, in the dark, with icy roads is not a choice. Sigh.....

Soapbox:
Honda has Michael Bolton singing in all their ads right now. I can't stand his voice... sounds like someone just kicked him in the butt! High pitched and like scratchin' on a blackboard! UGH!!!! Thank goodness for the MUTE button!

This is sooooooooo what happens here between Bruiser and Dude... sent by Ike Saben. Thanks for the smiles and laughs Ike!

Speaking of cats... here's Bruiser cruising the top of the fence and near the bird feeder in hopes of prey....

Icicles on the finch feeder...

.... and the Dude laying in the sun... 20º out there.

What a waste yesterday was, and probably today as well. No water so had to go to neighbors to fill up containers. Thank you Frank and Cindy... also, thanks for the shooter of 'Apple Pie' liquor!( http://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-apple-pie-liquor-235381 )

So tired of this. If I wanted this type of weather I'd have moved to Alaska, N. Dakota, Montana, or somewhere icky like that. Wine wine wine.... THAT's RIGHT! To heck with the wine with the 'h' in it!!!

Bears fans were happy with last night's game...

Check this adorable photo my daughter-in-law, Jennifer, took of Tucker, The State Farm Snowman, and Sami..

National Lager Day

National Lager Day

Most of what we regard as American beer is what is known as lager, a cold brewed and stored beer that is light in flavor as well as color.

So.... how about Onion Soup made with lager!

1/3 cup butter
10 onions, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
12 ounces lager (can or bottle)
1 quart beef broth
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 bay leaf
6 slices French bread, toasted
3 cups shredded gruyere cheese

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir and cook onions in butter until golden brown, 15 minutes.

Stir in the garlic and cook 1 minute. Pour in the beer and beef broth and season with mustard, thyme, black pepper and the bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425º

Remove bay leaf from soup and ladle soup into a large casserole or individual ovenproof bowls, leaving about 1 inch of room at the top of the dish or dishes. Float slices of toasted bread on the soup and pile generously with Gruyere.

Bake in preheated oven 10 minutes, until cheese is lightly browned and bubbly.

LOL I cracked up at the dogs afraid of passing by the cats. I guess once scratched by one they know to keep their distance. Funny!

Hey you have every right to wine! With the "h" or without! :) That has got to be miserable!

Love love the photo of the kids. A great Christmas card especially for Brian's business!

Good decision not to get out on those icy roads! It's disappointing but better to be safe.

Hugs, Trisha

Wish I lived closer and could run a hose over the fence! Thought I had a water problem cuz my water pressure dropped dramatically yesterday morning. But I gravity feed out of a 5000 gallon tank on the hill so even if the pump froze or electricity is out I have water. Called artoffs and told them no urgency just need advice but did turn pump off so it wouldn't burn up. Hiked the hill to check out the pipes, they are wrapped but a few spots are bare. Corey called last night, they are so busy he had a list of 200 people to call and are using their own 4x4 trucks cuz the box rigs cant get to lots of jobs. ANYWAY looks like it may just be the float in the tank freezing or not sensing the level cuz after all noon in the sun I had lots of water last night! WHAT EVER! But still stuck cuz my BLM road is too scary to drive so might have to make that onion soup but have all ingredients except beer! Hang in there Sue I can live for a while without power but days with water shortage can be a pain and even without beer I have other spirits to get me through!

I am so sorry! You must be miserable. We have water this year (last year our well was acting up) but I am still ready for Spring and ready for Christmas to be over. My Christmas spirit took a hike this year.It diminishes a little each year. I need to be around some kids!
Cut video- lol. Poor pups. Love t&g

Oh Joan, you are so funny!!! Glad you water situation is good and we all have power. This has been a real challange. Not liking it, but will get through .... xoxo

You are right Tammy, kids really do help with the Christmas Spirit. Right now, mine is ebbing as well..... it's the water thing and the bone chilling cold. The sun is coming in the dining room window, and that is helping! xo

I can't STAND Michael Bolton either! Also, the cats/dogs video was priceless! Cats rule--and let you live with them, right?

Think of it this way-at least you have your toilet that works, your TV that works, and your fire that heats you.
You have it made! Smile, we still like you. John B
