Good 40º foggy morning.
So....... I know one happy person, Jeannie, and one sad person, Uncle Jimmy..... The 49ers played the St. Louis Lambs last night...
Breakfast yesterday for Linda and I.... cut open a honeydew melon Jeannie
had grown.
Scrambled some eggs (with a spoonful of mayonnaise for creaminess!) and cut
up some tomato. YUMMMM!!
Yesterday was emotional but good. I finally decided it was time to take
Jerry's ashes to the National Cemetery in Eagle Point. I had lots of support and
help from Linda Nantz (her husband in the Marines with Jerry), Jeannie
Patterson (her husband worked LASD), and Nancy Perry (her husband was good
friends with Jerry) ... they accompanied me.
He will be interred in a newly constructed 'wall' tomorrow. As soon as his
'stone' is finished and installed I will be notified.
This cemetery is a beautiful place. Unbelievable the size and the number of
graves. Thank you Sisterfriends for doing this with me! ♥ I soooo appreciate it
as well as I am sure Jerry does too.
After we left the cemetery there was a herd of cows.. .this on in
particular looked like a buffalo! A buffacow? A coffalo?
We left there and drove to downtown Eagle Point where flags were up all
over town in remembrance of a young Eagle Point Marine. Cpl. Nicholas Sell, 21,
was killed in a vehicle accident at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in
Twentynine Palms, Calif., on Monday. He died from burns suffered when an
amphibious assault vehicle caught fire. The town had a picnic and memorial in his honor and, according to the news, they had a huge crowd.
Sell served in the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He
deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. His personal
awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Sell enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 3, 2010. Sell was a noted Eagle Scout
who served with Boy Scout Troop 48 out of Eagle Point. We stopped at the
Memorial ....
On our way to Eagle Point earlier yesterday there was a tremendous back up
on the northbound I-5 for miles.
Looked like an accident but there were tons of road equipment... didn't
know until later a dump truck had spilled a load of asphalt grindings just north
of the Valley of the Rogue Park.
This caused a 4 vehicle accident, fortunately nobody hurt.
After we left Eagle Point we stopped in at The Olive Garden for a glass of
wine. Then to Trader Joe's for shopping. When Jeannie had come over earlier she
brought Bruiser a present...
LOL, it spins around with this pointy thing sticking out. OMG he was
soooooo fast. He attacked it and caught it!!! Show off! Thanks Jeannie, he will
enjoy this!
Thanks again ladies for your help and support!
Linda and I spent a quiet evening ... salad for dinner (baby spinach,
honeydew melon, tomatoes, mushrooms, parmesan cheese, and lemon dressing) We
were stuffed from the "cheese toast/bread sticks and melted mozzarella cheese"
we had at Olive Garden! We watched the two new shows, Robin Williams and The
Crazy Ones, and the new Michael Fox show. Neither of us really liked that
one!
Three birthdays today ... three neat people! Gary Hyman. He
and his wife Tammy adopted "Mr. Big Stuff"
the dog PJ found on the freeway off ramp, I brought him home
and because of pending back surgery, could not keep him. Drove him to Redding
and met Gary and Tammy and it was instant love! Sideways, as he is now called is
one happy dog! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!!!!
.... and
Patty Rodriguez, an LASD detective...she worked at ELA when I was there, ret
now. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTY!!!! Miss you girl.
.... and
lastly our former bartender/friend Willie at the Elks Lodge. HAPPY BIRTHDAY
WILLIE!

see... Mexican Independence Day! The war started on the 16th of Sept and ended
on the 27th. Just FYI if you have any comments, read the text first. Beyond me
why the 16th is celebrated...I guess because a beginning is important
too.

Native American Day
This day is set aside to honor and celebrate Native Americans, the first
Americans to live in the U.S. Still commonly referred to as American Indians,
the term "Native Americans" has been used in recent years as a sign of respect
and recognition that they were indeed the first people to populate our great and
wonderful nation. By the time the first explorers and settlers arrived from
Europe, Native Americans had populated the entire North American continent, from
the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to the
northern reaches of Canada.

What an emotional day yesterday. Whew! Glad you had support.I kept Mom's ashes here for quite awhile. It brought me a strange comfort. But, it was her wish to be buried next to my Sister. So I did as she wished.
You are and will always be one of my Gary's favourite people. You gave him the best gift of all- Sideways aka Mr. Big Stuff. He loves to tell the story and he loves that pup with all his heart. We all do!Love you lots- t&g
HUGS! Jerry Maxwell was a lucky man.
Did you know Jennifer Anniston's hair is naturally dark and curly? I can only imagine the fortune she has spent trying to look like Paltrow's sister):-
Yesterday was a tough day, you handled it beautifully. We love you!
I could not believe Bruiser caught that tail on that toy so fast. Man, you can definitely tell he is a hunter. I don't think that toy will last long. I am sure he will be back to Dude's tail in no time.
Yes, you are so right, Yeah for the 49er's. I am doing the happy feet dance. LOL
Looks like Linda is getting some good Bed and Breakfast stuff. Lucky you Linda! Wonder what creative dinner you will get tonight? I am sure it will be wonderful. Sure was great to see you, have a safe trip home and hurry back.

Jeannie
Sue,
How wonderful that your gal buds were with you yesterday. It was sure an emotional day for you. Glad they were there with love, help and support.
Makes my heart hurt to think of that baby Marine, only 21 dying like that. So sad.
Loved the pic of Brusier sneaking up on his new toy. So funny! I can just visualize him pouncing on it. Cute cute!
XO Trisha
Sue -- Jerry will always be remembered by his LASD partners and workmates ! D
Sue, love the pic of the Bruise and his new toy....have seen those advertised on TV....obviously they work. It's nice to have your friend visiting for a few days. With your blog pics every day, it's like being a "fly on the wall" watching the season change in your part of the world. So look forward to your blog each day. Your day at the cemetary to place Jerry's ashes with friends triggered my memories of taking Harold's to the National Cemetary in Springfield, Mo. close to a year after he passed. I carried them aboard....what happened just getting there is a tale for another day. He was a combat veteran of the "war" in Korea. Had a military ceremony....I was there alone with the part of his family who still reside in the Springfield area. Since I*'m such an American History geek...the cemetary is divided...Civil War, No. and So., Mo. was divided so that's how they handled it. Moving on whether it be old age or the loss of a loved one "ain't for sissies" IMHO. Edda
