Lake Chaubunagungamaug ~ Applegate Valley BBQ

Good 59º morning. Temps going up. 90ºs-100º through next week.  Took this last night after I got home from the BBQ at Applegate Valley Ranch... 8pm... you can see the moon up there...

My friend Adria Barton (USMC BAM! Not really, actually she's tall and thin!) went back home to Massachusetts for a visit and said her town's claim to fame is a lake, Lake Chaubunagungamaug. OMG, saying it is difficult, but spelling it is worse! I found it on a Google map!

Historically this date...
1927 – The Dole Air Race begins from Oakland, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii, during which six out of the eight participating planes crash or disappear.

1942World War II: The two-person crew of the U.S. naval blimp L-8 disappears without a trace on a routine anti-submarine patrol over the Pacific Ocean. The blimp drifts without her crew and crash-lands in Daly City, California.

2010China Overtakes Japan as World's Second-Biggest Economy

And births this date include...
1924Fess Parker, American actor (d. 2010)

1928 – Eydie Gormé, American singer (d. 2013)

1930Robert Culp, American actor (d. 2010)

1930 – Frank Gifford, American football player and sportscaster

1933Julie Newmar, American actress, singer, and dancer

1946 – Lesley Ann Warren, American actress and singer

1953Kathie Lee Gifford, American talk show host, singer, and actress   ....same birth date as her husband!!

1958Madonna, American singer-songwriter, actress, producer, and director
......pictures of her in a show, without makeup, and with her tattoo... (!) The singer went on to voice her adoration for First Lady Michelle Obama, according to The Hill, saying, "Thank god for Michelle Obama." Later, that love was aimed at President Obama, "Tonight I'm not going to show my a--. I'm going to show my feelings. How's that for living dangerously?"
The 54-year-old then ripped off her shirt to reveal an "OBAMA" tattoo painted across her lower back. (good grief)

1960Timothy Hutton, American actor

1962Steve Carell, American actor, comedian, voice artist, producer, writer, and director

The BBQ at Applegate Valley Ranch last evening was GREAT~! www.applegatevalleyranch.com   The drive from my house is 25 miles..out along the Applegate River... lovely drive...

Missy and her family do a great job. Christa (not sure of the spelling ... sorry) or Krista is the 'bartendress'... She has these two awesome dogs.... Throttle is the Great Dane and I can't recall the name of the Bull Terrier... but sooooo sweet both of them! They were supposed to be in the house and not out among us... but I was happy to see them and glad they escaped for a few minutes anyway!

Food was cooked and served by Silver Ridge Outfitters... ( http://silverridgeoutfitters.com/ )  Unique "camp out" cooking... with the pots of potatoes with bacon (oink...could have eaten a mountain of these!) and the beans with pineapple (omg to die for!) sitting on coals and coals on top of the lids...

I had salad, beans, potatoes, and the tri-tip, which was perfect...and tender! Jeannie said the chicken was great too!

The Yellins, Dee and Dale (standing) with their pals
Dee and Dennis Shoup and Deanna and Allan Hammer (OMG, three gals all named Dee!!!)

and us... Pattersons..Jeannie, Bill, Tammy Allgood, Candy Havercroft, Paul Allgood, Bob Havercroft, and me (with Dale giving me a couple of horns! Thanks Dale.)

The weather was perfect, about 80+º but shady with a breeze. Fun evening. The wine was from Troon Vineyard... good wine, but there is a whole other story about that...for another time!  ;o)

All I know. Nuff said. TGIF. Ciao.

August 16th
National Rum Day (Just for you, Billy!!)

When Jerry and I were in Jamaica (with Fabergé when I worked for them, for a sales meeting...) we went on a train ride to the Appleton Estates. Rum punch was offered to all of us on the ride there... toured the rum making facilities and boarded the train for the ride back.... Oh that rum. It fixed all those folks up! Everyone napped on the way back. All the men were snoring!!! LOL.

The drama teacher at my high school was married to Robert Culp for a while. We called her Mrs. Culp. I think he first name was Madilyn??

What a lovely venue for a BBQ. Food looks delightful. Are any of those Allgoods from Oklahoma? t&g

What a fun event! Now you didn't say what this BBQ was for. Was it a fundraiser for someone or some thing or what? Was it catered? Who did the cooking?
It reminded me of the event we have been to in Covina to raise $$ for the Regional "R" Headquarters. Don't know what they do to that tri tip but it's always as you said so tender and good.

Was that trip to Jamaica for Faberge when you met Jose Eber? He is still a good looking man but sadly way different from the Jose you had a photo with on that trip?

No, not an "event" T. The Applegate Valley Ranch is a venue for Thursday night BBQs in the summer and for weddings. They have a B&B there also. I thought I said the Silver Ridge Outfitters did the cooking this time. Sometimes Missy and her crew (she owns the place) do the cooking.

No, met Jose when we went to Acapulco the first year I worked for Faberge. It was the next year the spouses got to join us. Of course I was the only female in health and beauty aids so while all the male salesmen and I had meetings, our spouses went on tours. Jerry being the only male with all the wives!!! LOL
