Homemade Soup ~ 'Goovment' Salaries ~ Huell ~ English Toffee

Good 41º drizzly cloudy morning.

I was asked about the homemade soup from yesterday... Crockpot, large carton chicken stock, dried mushrooms (or use fresh sliced), golden mushroom soup, sliced garlic (I use dried from Costco), Tabouli (or use orzo, rice, couscous, quinoa), whole wheat rigatoni (I only like the whole wheat pasta in soup, not with sauce!), diced sweet potato, and at the end I added half a package of frozen peas. (I know, BFF you hate peas! Use green beans or okra or broccoli or.....? whatever you have/like.) All cooked in crockpot on low for 5 hours. Really good! But, like most things I cook, it's a little of this and that I have on hand.

Here you go....

January 8th
English Toffee Day

I suggest you go to this site and order some. It's the BEST! Or if you are close to Grants Pass, stop in the store oat 413 Union (near the Three Rivers Hosp), say hi to Dee and buy some toffee! They have free samples. Once you try it, you are hooked!

One of my favorites is their Trail Toffee (a finalist in the NY Fancy Food Show for Outstanding Snack Food Category) ... I like to make oatmeal cookies and instead of just putting raisins in the cookie dough, I put this in. It is a mixture of English Toffee with toasted almonds, dried cranberries and raisins. OMGOOOD!!!!!

Sue,

Jeeeeze everyone but me has heard of Howell! If he was just on PBS no wonder I never heard of him. I have only lived in California for 61 years! hmmmm

Those saleries are obscene and that doesn't even include the perks while in office! Every time I am in Sacramento and see how many staff members, office, etc. that just one rep. gets it makes my head spin and that's just for a state! I can't imagine what those in DC get!!

Have a good day!

XO Trisha
p.s. Did your cold stay away? I think mine finally is taking hold of me! :(

Yes, T, unbelievable you never heard of Huell. He was a California icon for sure!
Cold is still sort of in the background. Took another Zicam this morning and will continue for today every three hours. Get some!

We love his shows and his enthusiasm for all the little nook and cranny places he discovered for us. What a loss for all.
